ਆਪਿ ਛਡਾਏ ਛੁਟੀਐ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੪॥ aap chhaddaae chhutteeai satigur charan samaal |4| If the Lord Himself saves you, then you shall be saved. Dwell upon the Feet of the True Guru. ||4|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਦੇਹੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥ man karahalaa mere piaariaa vich dehee jot samaal | O my dear beloved camel-like mind, dwell upon the Divine Light within the body. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਗੁਰਿ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਖਾਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਦਇਆਲਿ ॥੫॥ gur nau nidh naam vikhaaliaa har daat karee deaal |5| The Guru has shown me the nine treasures of the Naam. The Merciful Lord has bestowed this gift. ||5|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲਾ ਤੂੰ ਚੰਚਲਾ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਛਡਿ ਵਿਕਰਾਲਿ ॥ man karahalaa toon chanchalaa chaturaaee chhadd vikaraal | O camel-like mind, you are so fickle; give up your cleverness and corruption. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਤੂੰ ਹਰਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ॥੬॥ har har naam samaal toon har mukat kare ant kaal |6| Dwell upon the Name of the Lord, Har, Har; at the very last moment, the Lord shall liberate you. ||6|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲਾ ਵਡਭਾਗੀਆ ਤੂੰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥ man karahalaa vaddabhaageea toon giaan ratan samaal | O camel-like mind, you are so very fortunate; dwell upon the jewel of spiritual wisdom. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਖੜਗੁ ਹਥਿ ਧਾਰਿਆ ਜਮੁ ਮਾਰਿਅੜਾ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ॥੭॥ gur giaan kharrag hath dhaariaa jam maariarraa jamakaal |7| You hold in your hands the sword of the Guru’s spiritual wisdom; with this destroyer of death, kill the Messenger of Death. ||7|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲੇ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭਵਹਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭਾਲਿ ॥ antar nidhaan man karahale bhram bhaveh baahar bhaal | The treasure is deep within, O camel-like mind, but you wander around outside in doubt, searching for it. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਲਧੜਾ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੮॥ gur purakh pooraa bhettiaa har sajan ladharraa naal |8| Meeting the Perfect Guru, the Primal Being, you shall discover that the Lord, your Best Friend, is with you. ||8|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤੜੇ ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥ rang ratarre man karahale har rang sadaa samaal | You are engrossed in pleasures, O camel-like mind; dwell upon the Lord’s lasting love instead! - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੯॥ har rang kade na utarai gur sevaa sabad samaal |9| The color of the Lord’s Love never fades away; serve the Guru, and dwell upon the Word of the Shabad. ||9|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਮ ਪੰਖੀ ਮਨ ਕਰਹਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਤਰਵਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਕਾਲਿ ॥ ham pankhee man karahale har taravar purakh akaal | We are birds, O camel-like mind; the Lord, the Immortal Primal Being, is the tree. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੧੦॥੨॥ vaddabhaagee guramukh paaeaa jan naanak naam samaal |10|2| The Gurmukhs are very fortunate - they find it. O servant Nanak, dwell upon the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||10||2|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਜਬ ਇਹੁ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਕਰਤ ਗੁਮਾਨਾ ॥ jab ihu man meh karat gumaanaa | When this mind is filled with pride, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਬ ਇਹੁ ਬਾਵਰੁ ਫਿਰਤ ਬਿਗਾਨਾ ॥ tab ihu baavar firat bigaanaa | then it wanders around like a madman and a lunatic. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਬ ਇਹੁ ਹੂਆ ਸਗਲ ਕੀ ਰੀਨਾ ॥ jab ihu hooaa sagal kee reenaa | But when it becomes the dust of all, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਰਮਈਆ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਚੀਨਾ ॥੧॥ taa te rameea ghatt ghatt cheenaa |1| then it recognizes the Lord in each and every heart. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਹਜ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਫਲੁ ਮਸਕੀਨੀ ॥ sehaj suhelaa fal masakeenee | The fruit of humility is intuitive peace and pleasure. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਮੋਹਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੀਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ satigur apunai mohi daan deenee |1| rahaau | My True Guru has given me this gift. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਬ ਕਿਸ ਕਉ ਇਹੁ ਜਾਨਸਿ ਮੰਦਾ ॥ jab kis kau ihu jaanas mandaa | When he believes others to be bad, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਬ ਸਗਲੇ ਇਸੁ ਮੇਲਹਿ ਫੰਦਾ ॥ tab sagale is meleh fandaa | then everyone lays traps for him. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੇਰ ਤੇਰ ਜਬ ਇਨਹਿ ਚੁਕਾਈ ॥ mer ter jab ineh chukaaee | But when he stops thinking in terms of ‘mine’ and ‘yours’, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਇਸੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਹੀ ਬੈਰਾਈ ॥੨॥ taa te is sang nahee bairaaee |2| then no one is angry with him. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਅਪਨੀ ਧਾਰੀ ॥ jab in apunee apanee dhaaree | When he clings to ‘my own, my own’, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਬ ਇਸ ਕਉ ਹੈ ਮੁਸਕਲੁ ਭਾਰੀ ॥ tab is kau hai musakal bhaaree | then he is in deep trouble. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥ jab in karanaihaar pachhaataa | But when he recognizes the Creator Lord, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਬ ਇਸ ਨੋ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਾਤਾ ॥੩॥ tab is no naahee kichh taataa |3| then he is free of torment. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਅਪੁਨੋ ਬਾਧਿਓ ਮੋਹਾ ॥ jab in apuno baadhio mohaa | When he entangles himself in emotional attachment, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਸਦਾ ਜਮਿ ਜੋਹਾ ॥ aavai jaae sadaa jam johaa | he comes and goes in reincarnation, under the constant gaze of Death. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਬ ਇਸ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਭਰਮਾ ॥ jab is te sabh binase bharamaa | But when all his doubts are removed, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭੇਦੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਹੈ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ॥੪॥ bhed naahee hai paarabrahamaa |4| then there is no difference between him and the Supreme Lord God. ||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੇ ਭੇਦਾ ॥ jab in kichh kar maane bhedaa | When he perceives differences, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਬ ਤੇ ਦੂਖ ਡੰਡ ਅਰੁ ਖੇਦਾ ॥ tab te dookh ddandd ar khedaa | then he suffers pain, punishment and sorrow. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਏਕੋ ਏਕੀ ਬੂਝਿਆ ॥ jab in eko ekee boojhiaa | But when he recognizes the One and Only Lord, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਬ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੋ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝਿਆ ॥੫॥ tab te is no sabh kichh soojhiaa |5| he understands everything. ||5|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਬ ਇਹੁ ਧਾਵੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਅਰਥੀ ॥ jab ihu dhaavai maaeaa arathee | When he runs around for the sake of Maya and riches, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਵੈ ਨਹ ਤਿਸ ਲਾਥੀ ॥ neh tripataavai neh tis laathee | he is not satisfied, and his desires are not quenched. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਬ ਇਸ ਤੇ ਇਹੁ ਹੋਇਓ ਜਉਲਾ ॥ jab is te ihu hoeo jaulaa | But when he runs away from Maya, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੀਛੈ ਲਾਗਿ ਚਲੀ ਉਠਿ ਕਉਲਾ ॥੬॥ peechhai laag chalee utth kaulaa |6| then the Goddess of Wealth gets up and follows him. ||6|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਓ ॥ kar kirapaa jau satigur milio | When, by His Grace, the True Guru is met, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨ ਮੰਦਰ ਮਹਿ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਜਲਿਓ ॥ man mandar meh deepak jalio | the lamp is lit within the temple of the mind. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੀਤ ਹਾਰ ਕੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਕਰੀ ॥ jeet haar kee sojhee karee | When he realizes what victory and defeat really are, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਉ ਇਸੁ ਘਰ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਰੀ ॥੭॥ tau is ghar kee keemat paree |7| then he comes to appreciate the true value of his own home. ||7|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
