ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥ sabad man rangiaa liv laae | The mind is attuned to the Word of the Shabad; it is lovingly attuned to the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ nij ghar vasiaa prabh kee rajaae |1| It abides within its own home, in harmony with the Lord’s Will. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਜਾਇ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥ satigur seviai jaae abhimaan | Serving the True Guru, egotistical pride departs, - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੋਵਿਦੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ govid paaeeai gunee nidhaan |1| rahaau | and the Lord of the Universe, the Treasure of Excellence, is obtained. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨੁ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਜਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਉ ਖਾਇ ॥ man bairaagee jaa sabad bhau khaae | The mind becomes detached and free of desire, when it experiences the Fear of God, through the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਸਭ ਤੈ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ meraa prabh niramalaa sabh tai rahiaa samaae | My Immaculate God is pervading and contained among all. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੨॥ gur kirapaa te milai milaae |2| By Guru’s Grace, one is united in His Union. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੋ ਦਾਸੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ har daasan ko daas sukh paae | The slave of the Lord’s slave attains peace. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਏ ॥ meraa har prabh in bidh paaeaa jaae | My Lord God is found in this way. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਰਾਮ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ॥੩॥ har kirapaa te raam gun gaae |3| By the Grace of the Lord, one comes to sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਬਹੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ dhrig bahu jeevan jit har naam na lagai piaar | Cursed is that long life, during which love for the Lord’s Name is not enshrined. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਸੇਜ ਸੁਖਾਲੀ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਮੋਹ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥ dhrig sej sukhaalee kaaman moh gubaar | Cursed is that comfortable bed which lures one into the darkness of attachment to sexual desire. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤਿਨ ਸਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਜਿਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥੪॥ tin safal janam jin naam adhaar |4| Fruitful is the birth of that person who takes the Support of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ dhrig dhrig grihu kuttanb jit har preet na hoe | Cursed, cursed is that home and family, in which the love of the Lord is not embraced. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੋਈ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਮੀਤੁ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥ soee hamaaraa meet jo har gun gaavai soe | He alone is my friend, who sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੫॥ har naam binaa mai avar na koe |5| Without the Lord’s Name, there is no other for me. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ satigur te ham gat pat paaee | From the True Guru, I have obtained salvation and honor. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਦੂਖੁ ਸਗਲ ਮਿਟਾਈ ॥ har naam dhiaaeaa dookh sagal mittaaee | I have meditated on the Name of the Lord, and all my sufferings have been erased. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੬॥ sadaa anand har naam liv laaee |6| I am in constant bliss, lovingly attuned to the Lord’s Name. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਹਮ ਕਉ ਸਰੀਰ ਸੁਧਿ ਭਈ ॥ gur miliai ham kau sareer sudh bhee | Meeting the Guru, I came to understand my body. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਭ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਈ ॥ haumai trisanaa sabh agan bujhee | The fires of ego and desire have been totally quenched. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨਸੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਖਿਮਾ ਗਹਿ ਲਈ ॥੭॥ binase krodh khimaa geh lee |7| Anger has been dispelled, and I have grasped hold of tolerance. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਵੈ ॥ har aape kripaa kare naam devai | The Lord Himself showers His Mercy, and bestows the Naam. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਲੇਵੈ ॥ guramukh ratan ko viralaa levai | How rare is that Gurmukh, who receives the jewel of the Naam. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵੈ ॥੮॥੮॥ naanak gun gaavai har alakh abhevai |8|8| O Nanak, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, the Unknowable, the Incomprehensible. ||8||8|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਰਾਗੁ ਗਉੜੀ ਬੈਰਾਗਣਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ raag gaurree bairaagan mahalaa 3 | Raag Gauree Bairaagan, Third Mehl: - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਮੁਹ ਫੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਵੇਮੁਖ ਬੁਰੇ ਦਿਸੰਨਿ ॥ satigur te jo muh fere te vemukh bure disan | Those who turn their faces away from the True Guru, are seen to be unfaithful and evil. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਬਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਨਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਵੇਲਾ ਨਾ ਲਹੰਨਿ ॥੧॥ anadin badhe maareean fir velaa naa lahan |1| They shall be bound and beaten night and day; they shall not have this opportunity again. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ har har raakhahu kripaa dhaar | O Lord, please shower Your Mercy upon me, and save me! - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਾਇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ satasangat melaae prabh har hiradai har gun saar |1| rahaau | O Lord God, please lead me to meet the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, that I may dwell upon the Glorious Praises of the Lord within my heart. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵਦੇ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਾਇ ਚਲੰਨਿ ॥ se bhagat har bhaavade jo guramukh bhaae chalan | Those devotees are pleasing to the Lord, who as Gurmukh, walk in harmony with the Way of the Lord’s Will. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨਿ ਜੀਵਤ ਮੁਏ ਰਹੰਨਿ ॥੨॥ aap chhodd sevaa karan jeevat mue rahan |2| Subduing their selfishness and conceit, and performing selfless service, they remain dead while yet alive. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਪਰਾਣ ਹੈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰ ॥ jis daa pindd paraan hai tis kee sir kaar | The body and the breath of life belong to the One - perform the greatest service to Him. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਓਹੁ ਕਿਉ ਮਨਹੁ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਰਖੀਐ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੩॥ ohu kiau manahu visaareeai har rakheeai hiradai dhaar |3| Why forget Him from your mind? Keep the Lord enshrined in your heart. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮਿ ਮੰਨਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ naam miliai pat paaeeai naam maniai sukh hoe | Receiving the Naam, the Name of the Lord, one obtains honor; believing in the Naam, one is at peace. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥ satigur te naam paaeeai karam milai prabh soe |4| The Naam is obtained from the True Guru; by His Grace, God is found. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਮੁਹੁ ਫੇਰੇ ਓਇ ਭ੍ਰਮਦੇ ਨਾ ਟਿਕੰਨਿ ॥ satigur te jo muhu fere oe bhramade naa ttikan | They turn their faces away from the True Guru; they continue to wander aimlessly. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਧਰਤਿ ਅਸਮਾਨੁ ਨ ਝਲਈ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਪਏ ਪਚੰਨਿ ॥੫॥ dharat asamaan na jhalee vich visattaa pe pachan |5| They are not accepted by the earth or the sky; they fall into manure, and rot. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਠਗਉਲੀ ਪਾਇ ॥ eihu jag bharam bhulaaeaa moh tthgaulee paae | This world is deluded by doubt - it has taken the drug of emotional attachment. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਭਿਟੈ ਮਾਇ ॥੬॥ jinaa satigur bhettiaa tin nerr na bhittai maae |6| Maya does not draw near those who have met with the True Guru. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸੋ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥ satigur sevan so sohane haumai mail gavaae | Those who serve the True Guru are very beautiful; they cast off the filth of selfishness and conceit. - Guru Amardas Ji
