ਮਾਨੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਦੋਊ ਸਮਾਨੇ ਮਸਤਕੁ ਡਾਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਗਿਓ ॥ maan abhimaan doaoo samaane masatak ddaar gur paagio | Honor and dishonor are the same to me; I have placed my forehead upon the Guru’s Feet. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਪਤ ਹਰਖੁ ਨ ਆਪਤ ਦੂਖਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਠਾਕੁਰੈ ਲਾਗਿਓ ॥੧॥ sanpat harakh na aapat dookhaa rang tthaakurai laagio |1| Wealth does not excite me, and misfortune does not disturb me; I have embraced love for my Lord and Master. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਾਸ ਬਾਸਰੀ ਏਕੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਉਦਿਆਨ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਗਿਓ ॥ baas baasaree ekai suaamee udiaan drisattaagio | The One Lord and Master dwells in the home; He is seen in the wilderness as well. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਭਏ ਸੰਤ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਡਾਰਿਓ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਰਬਾਗਿਓ ॥੨॥ nirbhau bhe sant bhram ddaario pooran sarabaagio |2| I have become fearless; the Saint has removed my doubts. The All-knowing Lord is pervading everywhere. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਤੈ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕੀਨੋ ਮਨਿ ਬੁਰੋ ਨ ਲਾਗਿਓ ॥ jo kichh karatai kaaran keeno man buro na laagio | Whatever the Creator does, my mind is not troubled. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਸੋਇਓ ਮਨੁ ਜਾਗਿਓ ॥੩॥ saadhasangat parasaad santan kai soeo man jaagio |3| By the Grace of the Saints and the Company of the Holy, my sleeping mind has been awakened. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਓੜਿ ਤੁਹਾਰੀ ਪਰਿਓ ਆਇਓ ਸਰਣਾਗਿਓ ॥ jan naanak orr tuhaaree pario aaeo saranaagio | Servant Nanak seeks Your Support; he has come to Your Sanctuary. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗ ਸਹਜ ਰਸ ਮਾਣੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਲਾਗਿਓ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੬੦॥ naam rang sehaj ras maane fir dookh na laagio |4|2|160| In the Love of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, he enjoys intuitive peace; pain no longer touches him. ||4||2||160|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਥੀਆ ਸਤਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ tan seetal man seetal theea satagur sabad samaaeaa |1| rahaau | My body is cooled, my mind is cooled and soothed, and I am absorbed into the Shabad, the Word of the True Guru. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਲਾਥੀ ਭੂਖ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਸਭ ਲਾਥੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਸਾਰੀ ॥ laathee bhookh trisan sabh laathee chintaa sagal bisaaree | My hunger has departed, my thirst has totally departed, and all my anxiety is forgotten. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਧਰਿਓ ਮਨੁ ਜੀਤੋ ਜਗੁ ਸਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ kar masatak gur poorai dhario man jeeto jag saaree |1| The Perfect Guru has placed His Hand upon my forehead; conquering my mind, I have conquered the whole world. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਇ ਰਹੇ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਡੋਲਨ ਤੇ ਅਬ ਚੂਕੇ ॥ tripat aghaae rahe rid antar ddolan te ab chooke | Satisfied and satiated, I remain steady within my heart, and now, I do not waver at all. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਖੁਟੁ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਤੋਟਿ ਨਹੀ ਰੇ ਮੂਕੇ ॥੨॥ akhutt khajaanaa satigur deea tott nahee re mooke |2| The True Guru has given me the inexhaustible treasure; it never decreases, and never runs out. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਚਰਜੁ ਏਕੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਿ ਐਸੀ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥ acharaj ek sunahu re bhaaee gur aisee boojh bujhaaee | Listen to this wonder, O Siblings of Destiny: the Guru has given me this understanding. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਲਾਹਿ ਪਰਦਾ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਜਉ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਤਉ ਬਿਸਰੀ ਤਾਤਿ ਪਰਾਈ ॥੩॥ laeh paradaa tthaakur jau bhettio tau bisaree taat paraaee |3| I threw off the veil of illusion, when I met my Lord and Master; then, I forgot my jealousy of others. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਹਿਓ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਏਹੁ ਅਚੰਭਉ ਸੋ ਜਾਨੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਚਾਖਿਆ ॥ kahio na jaaee ehu achanbhau so jaanai jin chaakhiaa | This is a wonder which cannot be described. They alone know it, who have tasted it. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚ ਭਏ ਬਿਗਾਸਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਲੈ ਰਾਖਿਆ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੬੧॥ kahu naanak sach bhe bigaasaa gur nidhaan ridai lai raakhiaa |4|3|161| Says Nanak, the Truth has been revealed to me. The Guru has given me the treasure; I have taken it and enshrined it within my heart. ||4||3||161|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਉਬਰਤ ਰਾਜਾ ਰਾਮ ਕੀ ਸਰਣੀ ॥ aubarat raajaa raam kee saranee | Those who take to the Sanctuary of the Lord, the King, are saved. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਰਬ ਲੋਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਮੰਡਲ ਗਿਰਿ ਗਿਰਿ ਪਰਤੇ ਧਰਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ sarab lok maaeaa ke manddal gir gir parate dharanee |1| rahaau | All other people, in the mansion of Maya, fall flat on their faces on the ground. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਸਤ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬੇਦ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖਨ ਇਉ ਕਹਿਆ ॥ saasat sinmrit bed beechaare mahaa purakhan iau kahiaa | The great men have studied the Shaastras, the Simritees and the Vedas, and they have said this: - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ਸੂਖੁ ਨ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਲਹਿਆ ॥੧॥ bin har bhajan naahee nisataaraa sookh na kinahoon lahiaa |1| “Without the Lord’s meditation, there is no emancipation, and no one has ever found peace.” ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੀਨਿ ਭਵਨ ਕੀ ਲਖਮੀ ਜੋਰੀ ਬੂਝਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਲਹਰੇ ॥ teen bhavan kee lakhamee joree boojhat naahee lahare | People may accumulate the wealth of the three worlds, but the waves of greed are still not subdued. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਹਾ ਥਿਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਫਿਰਤੋ ਪਹਰੇ ਪਹਰੇ ॥੨॥ bin har bhagat kahaa thit paavai firato pahare pahare |2| Without devotional worship of the Lord, where can anyone find stability? People wander around endlessly. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਨਿਕ ਬਿਲਾਸ ਕਰਤ ਮਨ ਮੋਹਨ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਤ ਨ ਕਾਮਾ ॥ anik bilaas karat man mohan pooran hot na kaamaa | People engage in all sorts of mind-enticing pastimes, but their passions are not fulfilled. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਲਤੋ ਜਲਤੋ ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਬੂਝਤ ਸਗਲ ਬ੍ਰਿਥੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮਾ ॥੩॥ jalato jalato kabahoo na boojhat sagal brithe bin naamaa |3| They burn and burn, and are never satisfied; without the Lord’s Name, it is all useless. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੀਤਾ ਇਹੈ ਸਾਰ ਸੁਖੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥ har kaa naam japahu mere meetaa ihai saar sukh pooraa | Chant the Name of the Lord, my friend; this is the essence of perfect peace. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਾ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੬੨॥ saadhasangat janam maran nivaarai naanak jan kee dhooraa |4|4|162| In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, birth and death are ended. Nanak is the dust of the feet of the humble. ||4||4||162|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਕਰਤਾ ਹੋਇ ਜਨਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ karataa hoe janaavai |1| rahaau | Only the Creator knows it. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਨਜਾਨਤ ਕਿਛੁ ਇਨਹਿ ਕਮਾਨੋ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਸਾਧਾ ॥ anajaanat kichh ineh kamaano jap tap kachhoo na saadhaa | This person does things in ignorance; he does not chant in meditation, and does not perform any deep, self-disciplined meditation. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਲੈ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਦਉਰਾਇਓ ਕਵਨ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਿ ਬਾਧਾ ॥੧॥ deh dis lai ihu man dauraaeo kavan karam kar baadhaa |1| This mind wanders around in the ten directions - how can it be restrained? ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਧਨ ਭੂਮਿ ਕਾ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਹਉ ਇਸ ਕਾ ਇਹੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥ man tan dhan bhoom kaa tthaakur hau is kaa ihu meraa | “I am the lord, the master of my mind, body, wealth and lands. These are mine.” - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
