ਮਾਤੋ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਮਾਤੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ maato har rang maato |1| rahaau | I am intoxicated, intoxicated with the Love of the Lord. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਓੁਹੀ ਪੀਓ ਓੁਹੀ ਖੀਓ ਗੁਰਹਿ ਦੀਓ ਦਾਨੁ ਕੀਓ ॥ ਉਆਹੂ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤੋ ॥੧॥ ouhee peeo ouhee kheeo gureh deeo daan keeo | uaahoo siau man raato |1| I drink it in - I am drunk with it. The Guru has given it to me in charity. My mind is drenched with it. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਓੁਹੀ ਭਾਠੀ ਓੁਹੀ ਪੋਚਾ ਉਹੀ ਪਿਆਰੋ ਉਹੀ ਰੂਚਾ ॥ ਮਨਿ ਓਹੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਜਾਤੋ ॥੨॥ ouhee bhaatthee ouhee pochaa uhee piaaro uhee roochaa | man oho sukh jaato |2| It is my furnace, it is the cooling plaster. It is my love, it is my longing. My mind knows it as peace. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਹਜ ਕੇਲ ਅਨਦ ਖੇਲ ਰਹੇ ਫੇਰ ਭਏ ਮੇਲ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਰਾਤੋ ॥੩॥੪॥੧੫੭॥ sehaj kel anad khel rahe fer bhe mel | naanak gur sabad paraato |3|4|157| I enjoy intuitive peace, and I play in bliss; the cycle of reincarnation is ended for me, and I am merged with the Lord. ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੇਹੁ ਮੀਤਾ ਲੇਹੁ ਆਗੈ ਬਿਖਮ ਪੰਥੁ ਭੈਆਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ har naam lehu meetaa lehu aagai bikham panth bhaiaan |1| rahaau | Chant the Lord’s Name; O my friend, chant it. Hereafter, the path is terrifying and treacherous. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੇਵਤ ਸੇਵਤ ਸਦਾ ਸੇਵਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਸਤੁ ਹੈ ਕਾਲੁ ॥ sevat sevat sadaa sev terai sang basat hai kaal | Serve, serve, forever serve the Lord. Death hangs over your head. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਹੋ ਕਾਟੀਐ ਜਮ ਜਾਲੁ ॥੧॥ kar sevaa toon saadh kee ho kaatteeai jam jaal |1| Do seva, selfless service, for the Holy Saints, and the noose of Death shall be cut away. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹੋਮ ਜਗ ਤੀਰਥ ਕੀਏ ਬਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਬਧੇ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥ hom jag teerath kee bich haumai badhe bikaar | You may make burnt offerings, sacrificial feasts and pilgrimages to sacred shrines in egotism, but your corruption only increases. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਰਕੁ ਸੁਰਗੁ ਦੁਇ ਭੁੰਚਨਾ ਹੋਇ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਅਵਤਾਰ ॥੨॥ narak surag due bhunchanaa hoe bahur bahur avataar |2| You are subject to both heaven and hell, and you are reincarnated over and over again. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਿਵ ਪੁਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਪੁਰੀ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਕੋ ਥਾਉ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ siv puree braham indr puree nihachal ko thaau naeh | The realm of Shiva, the realms of Brahma and Indra as well - no place anywhere is permanent. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਹੋ ਸਾਕਤ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੩॥ bin har sevaa sukh nahee ho saakat aaveh jaeh |3| Without serving the Lord, there is no peace at all. The faithless cynic comes and goes in reincarnation. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੈਸੋ ਗੁਰਿ ਉਪਦੇਸਿਆ ਮੈ ਤੈਸੋ ਕਹਿਆ ਪੁਕਾਰਿ ॥ jaiso gur upadesiaa mai taiso kahiaa pukaar | As the Guru has taught me, so have I spoken. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਸੁਨਿ ਰੇ ਮਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਉਧਾਰੁ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੫੮॥ naanak kahai sun re manaa kar keeratan hoe udhaar |4|1|158| Says Nanak, listen, people: sing the Kirtan of the Lord’s Praises, and you shall be saved. ||4||1||158|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਹਾਨਿ ਮਿਰਤੁ ਦੂਖ ਸੁਖ ਚਿਤਿ ਸਮਸਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ harakh sog haan mirat dookh sukh chit samasar gur mile |1| rahaau | Joy and sorrow, profit and loss, birth and death, pain and pleasure - they are all the same to my consciousness, since I met the Guru. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਉ ਲਉ ਹਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੋਚਉ ਚਿਤਵਉ ਤਉ ਲਉ ਦੁਖਨੁ ਭਰੇ ॥ jau lau hau kichh sochau chitvau tau lau dukhan bhare | As long as I plotted and planned things, I was full of frustration. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਤਉ ਆਨਦ ਸਹਜੇ ॥੧॥ jau kripaal gur pooraa bhettiaa tau aanad sahaje |1| When I met the Kind, Perfect Guru, then I obtained bliss so easily. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੇਤੀ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਕਰਮ ਹਉ ਕੀਏ ਤੇਤੇ ਬੰਧ ਪਰੇ ॥ jetee siaanap karam hau kee tete bandh pare | The more clever tricks I tried, the more bonds I was saddled with. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਉ ਸਾਧੂ ਕਰੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਧਰਿਓ ਤਬ ਹਮ ਮੁਕਤ ਭਏ ॥੨॥ jau saadhoo kar masatak dhario tab ham mukat bhe |2| When the Holy Saint placed His Hand upon my forehead, then I was liberated. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਉ ਲਉ ਮੇਰੋ ਮੇਰੋ ਕਰਤੋ ਤਉ ਲਉ ਬਿਖੁ ਘੇਰੇ ॥ jau lau mero mero karato tau lau bikh ghere | As long as I claimed, “Mine, mine!”, I was surrounded by wickedness and corruption. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਬੁਧਿ ਅਰਪੀ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕਉ ਤਬ ਹਮ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੋਏ ॥੩॥ man tan budh arapee tthaakur kau tab ham sehaj soe |3| But when I dedicated my mind, body and intellect to my Lord and Master, then I began to sleep in peace. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਉ ਲਉ ਪੋਟ ਉਠਾਈ ਚਲਿਅਉ ਤਉ ਲਉ ਡਾਨ ਭਰੇ ॥ jau lau pott utthaaee chaliaau tau lau ddaan bhare | As long as I walked along, carrying the load, I continued to pay the fine. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੋਟ ਡਾਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਤਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਰਭਏ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੫੯॥ pott ddaar gur pooraa miliaa tau naanak nirabhe |4|1|159| But I threw away that bundle, when I met the Perfect Guru; O Nanak, then I became fearless. ||4||1||159|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਭਾਵਨੁ ਤਿਆਗਿਓ ਰੀ ਤਿਆਗਿਓ ॥ bhaavan tiaagio ree tiaagio | I have renounced my desires; I have renounced them. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਆਗਿਓ ਮੈ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਤਿਆਗਿਓ ॥ tiaagio mai gur mil tiaagio | I have renounced them; meeting the Guru, I have renounced them. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਮੰਗਲ ਰਸ ਮਾਨਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੈ ਆਗਿਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ sarab sukh aanand mangal ras maan gobindai aagio |1| rahaau | All peace, joy, happiness and pleasures have come since I surrendered to the Will of the Lord of the Universe. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
