ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ gaurree mahalaa 5 | Gauree, Fifth Mehl: - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸੁਨਿ ਆਇਓ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ॥ jog jugat sun aaeo gur te | I came to the Guru, to learn the Way of Yoga. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੋ ਕਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ mo kau satigur sabad bujhaaeo |1| rahaau | The True Guru has revealed it to me through the Word of the Shabad. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਉ ਖੰਡ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮੀ ਇਸੁ ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਨਮਸਕਾਰਾ ॥ nau khandd prithamee is tan meh raviaa nimakh nimakh namasakaaraa | He is contained in the nine continents of the world, and within this body; each and every moment, I humbly bow to Him. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੀਖਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਕਾਨੀ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਿਓ ਏਕੁ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ deekhiaa gur kee mundraa kaanee drirrio ek nirankaaraa |1| I have made the Guru’s Teachings my ear-rings, and I have enshrined the One Formless Lord within my being. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੰਚ ਚੇਲੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਏ ਇਕਤ੍ਰਾ ਏਕਸੁ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਕੀਏ ॥ panch chele mil bhe ikatraa ekas kai vas kee | I have brought the five disciples together, and they are now under the control of the one mind. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਸ ਬੈਰਾਗਨਿ ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ ਤਬ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋਗੀ ਥੀਏ ॥੨॥ das bairaagan aagiaakaaree tab niramal jogee thee |2| When the ten hermits become obedient to the Lord, then I became an immaculate Yogi. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਰਮੁ ਜਰਾਇ ਚਰਾਈ ਬਿਭੂਤਾ ਪੰਥੁ ਏਕੁ ਕਰਿ ਪੇਖਿਆ ॥ bharam jaraae charaaee bibhootaa panth ek kar pekhiaa | I have burnt my doubt, and smeared my body with the ashes. My path is to see the One and Only Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਹਜ ਸੂਖ ਸੋ ਕੀਨੀ ਭੁਗਤਾ ਜੋ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲੇਖਿਆ ॥੩॥ sehaj sookh so keenee bhugataa jo tthaakur masatak lekhiaa |3| I have made that intuitive peace my food; the Lord Master has written this pre-ordained destiny upon my forehead. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਹ ਭਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਹਾ ਆਸਨੁ ਬਾਧਿਓ ਸਿੰਗੀ ਅਨਹਤ ਬਾਨੀ ॥ jeh bhau naahee tahaa aasan baadhio singee anahat baanee | In that place where there is no fear, I have assumed my Yogic posture. The unstruck melody of His Bani is my horn. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਡੰਡਾ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਨੀ ॥੪॥ tat beechaar ddanddaa kar raakhio jugat naam man bhaanee |4| I have made contemplation upon the essential reality my Yogic staff. The Love of the Name in my mind is my Yogic lifestyle. ||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਐਸਾ ਜੋਗੀ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਭੇਟੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟੈ ॥ aisaa jogee vaddabhaagee bhettai maaeaa ke bandhan kaattai | By great good fortune, such a Yogi is met, who cuts away the bonds of Maya. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੇਵਾ ਪੂਜ ਕਰਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਕੀ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਪਗ ਚਾਟੈ ॥੫॥੧੧॥੧੩੨॥ sevaa pooj krau tis moorat kee naanak tis pag chaattai |5|11|132| Nanak serves and adores this wondrous person, and kisses his feet. ||5||11||132|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਅਨੂਪ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਸਗਲ ਧਿਆਇਲੇ ਮੀਤਾ ॥ anoop padaarath naam sunahu sagal dhiaaeile meetaa | The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is an incomparably beautiful treasure. Listen, everyone, and meditate on it, O friends. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਚੀਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ har aaukhadh jaa kau gur deea taa ke niramal cheetaa |1| rahaau | Those, unto whom the Guru has given the Lord’s medicine - their minds become pure and immaculate. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅੰਧਕਾਰੁ ਮਿਟਿਓ ਤਿਹ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ॥ andhakaar mittio tih tan te gur sabad deepak paragaasaa | Darkness is dispelled from within that body, in which the Divine Light of the Guru’s Shabad shines. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭ੍ਰਮ ਕੀ ਜਾਲੀ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕਾਟੀ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਿਸ੍ਵਾਸਾ ॥੧॥ bhram kee jaalee taa kee kaattee jaa kau saadhasangat bisvaasaa |1| The noose of doubt is cut away from those who place their faith in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਾਰੀਲੇ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਾਰੂ ਬਿਖੜਾ ਬੋਹਿਥ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਾ ॥ taareele bhavajal taaroo bikharraa bohith saadhoo sangaa | The treacherous and terrifying world-ocean is crossed over, in the boat of the Saadh Sangat. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਈ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਆਸਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਾ ॥੨॥ pooran hoee man kee aasaa gur bhettio har rangaa |2| My mind’s desires are fulfilled, meeting the Guru, in love with the Lord. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਏ ॥ naam khajaanaa bhagatee paaeaa man tan tripat aghaae | The devotees have found the treasure of the Naam; their minds and bodies are satisfied and satiated. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਦੇਵੈ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮਨਾਏ ॥੩॥੧੨॥੧੩੩॥ naanak har jeeo taa kau devai jaa kau hukam manaae |3|12|133| O Nanak, the Dear Lord gives it only to those who surrender to the Lord’s Command. ||3||12||133|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਦਇਆ ਮਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਪਤਿ ਮੋਰੇ ਮੋਹਿ ਅਨਾਥ ਸਰਣਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੋਰੀ ॥ deaa meaa kar praanapat more mohi anaath saran prabh toree | Please be kind and compassionate, O Lord of my life; I am helpless, and I seek Your Sanctuary, God. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਮਹਿ ਹਾਥ ਦੇ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਕਛੂ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਉਕਤਿ ਨ ਮੋਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ andh koop meh haath de raakhahu kachhoo siaanap ukat na moree |1| rahaau | Please, give me Your Hand, and lift me up, out of the deep dark pit. I have no clever tricks at all. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਤੁਮ ਸਮਰਥ ਨਾਹੀ ਅਨ ਹੋਰੀ ॥ karan karaavan sabh kichh tum hee tum samarath naahee an horee | You are the Doer, the Cause of causes - You are everything. You are All-powerful; there is no other than You. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੁਮਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਜਾਨੀ ਸੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਜਿਨ ਭਾਗ ਮਥੋਰੀ ॥੧॥ tumaree gat mit tum hee jaanee se sevak jin bhaag mathoree |1| You alone know Your condition and extent. They alone become Your servants, upon whose foreheads such good destiny is recorded. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੁਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਾਤੇ ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ਭਗਤਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਜੋਰੀ ॥ apune sevak sang tum prabh raate ot pot bhagatan sang joree | You are imbued with Your servant, God; Your devotees are woven into Your Fabric, through and through. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਚਾਹੈ ਜੈਸੇ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਓਹ ਚੰਦ ਚਕੋਰੀ ॥੨॥ priau priau naam teraa darasan chaahai jaise drisatt oeh chand chakoree |2| O Darling Beloved, they yearn for Your Name and the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan, like the chakvee bird which longs to see the moon. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰਾਮ ਸੰਤ ਮਹਿ ਭੇਦੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਏਕੁ ਜਨੁ ਕਈ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਖ ਕਰੋਰੀ ॥ raam sant meh bhed kichh naahee ek jan kee meh laakh karoree | Between the Lord and His Saint, there is no difference at all. Among hundreds of thousands and millions, there is scarcely one humble being. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹੀਐ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹੋਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਰਸਨ ਰਮੋਰੀ ॥੩॥ jaa kai heeai pragatt prabh hoaa anadin keeratan rasan ramoree |3| Those whose hearts are illuminated by God, sing the Kirtan of His Praises night and day with their tongues. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੁਮ ਸਮਰਥ ਅਪਾਰ ਅਤਿ ਊਚੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧੋਰੀ ॥ tum samarath apaar at aooche sukhadaate prabh praan adhoree | You are All-powerful and Infinite, the most lofty and exalted, the Giver of peace; O God, You are the Support of the breath of life. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀਜੈ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਉਨ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੰਗੋਰੀ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੧੩੪॥ naanak kau prabh keejai kirapaa un santan kai sang sangoree |4|13|134| Please show mercy to Nanak, O God, that he may remain in the Society of the Saints. ||4||13||134|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
