ਜਾ ਕਉ ਤੁਮ ਭਏ ਸਮਰਥ ਅੰਗਾ ॥ jaa kau tum bhe samarath angaa | Those who have You on their side, O All-powerful Lord - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਾ ਕਉ ਕਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਾਲੰਗਾ ॥੧॥ taa kau kachh naahee kaalangaa |1|

ਮਾਧਉ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਹੈ ਆਸ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥ maadhau jaa kau hai aas tumaaree | O Lord of wealth, those who place their hopes in You - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਾ ਕਉ ਕਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ taa kau kachh naahee sansaaree |1| rahaau |

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ jaa kai hiradai tthaakur hoe | Those whose hearts are filled with their Lord and Master - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਾ ਕਉ ਸਹਸਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥੨॥ taa kau sahasaa naahee koe |2|
- no anxiety can affect them. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਤੁਮ ਦੀਨੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧੀਰ ॥ jaa kau tum deenee prabh dheer | Those, unto whom You give Your consolation, God - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਾ ਕੈ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਪੀਰ ॥੩॥ taa kai nikatt na aavai peer |3|

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੈ ਸੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ kahu naanak mai so gur paaeaa | Says Nanak, I have found that Guru, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਦੁਲਭ ਦੇਹ ਪਾਈ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥ dulabh deh paaee vaddabhaagee | This human body is so difficult to obtain; it is only obtained by great good fortune. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਪਹਿ ਤੇ ਆਤਮ ਘਾਤੀ ॥੧॥ naam na japeh te aatam ghaatee |1| Those who do not meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are murderers of the soul. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਹੀ ਜਿਨਾ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਰਾਮ ॥ mar na jaahee jinaa bisarat raam | Those who forget the Lord might just as well die. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਖਾਤ ਪੀਤ ਖੇਲਤ ਹਸਤ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ॥ khaat peet khelat hasat bisathaar | Eating, drinking, playing, laughing and showing off - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਵਨ ਅਰਥ ਮਿਰਤਕ ਸੀਗਾਰ ॥੨॥ kavan arath miratak seegaar |2|
- what use are the ostentatious displays of the dead? ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਨ ਸੁਨਹਿ ਜਸੁ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦਾ ॥ jo na suneh jas paramaanandaa | Those who do not listen to the Praises of the Lord of supreme bliss, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਸੁ ਪੰਖੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਗਦ ਜੋਨਿ ਤੇ ਮੰਦਾ ॥੩॥ pas pankhee trigad jon te mandaa |3| are worse off than beasts, birds or creeping creatures. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਨਾਮ ਧਾਰੀਕ ਝੂਠੇ ਸਭਿ ਸਾਕ ॥੧॥ naam dhaareek jhootthe sabh saak |1| They are relatives in name only- they are all false. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਾਹੇ ਕਉ ਮੂਰਖ ਭਖਲਾਇਆ ॥ kaahe kau moorakh bhakhalaaeaa | Why are you screaming and shouting, you fool? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਜੋਗਿ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਤੂੰ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ mil sanjog hukam toon aaeaa |1| rahaau | By good destiny and the Lord’s Order, you have come into the world. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਏਕਾ ਮਾਟੀ ਏਕਾ ਜੋਤਿ ॥ ekaa maattee ekaa jot | There is the one dust, the one light, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਏਕੋ ਪਵਨੁ ਕਹਾ ਕਉਨੁ ਰੋਤਿ ॥੨॥ eko pavan kahaa kaun rot |2| the one praanic wind. Why are you crying? For whom do you cry? ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੇਰਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਿ ਬਿਲਲਾਹੀ ॥ meraa meraa kar bilalaahee | People weep and cry out, “Mine, mine!” - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਰਣਹਾਰੁ ਇਹੁ ਜੀਅਰਾ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੩॥ maranahaar ihu jeearaa naahee |3| This soul is not perishable. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਖੋਲੇ ਕਪਾਟ ॥ kahu naanak gur khole kapaatt | Says Nanak, the Guru has opened my shutters; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੁਕਤੁ ਭਏ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਥਾਟ ॥੪॥੪੩॥੧੧੨॥ mukat bhe binase bhram thaatt |4|43|112| I am liberated, and my doubts have been dispelled. ||4||43||112|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਰੋਗ ॥੧॥ tin kau biaapai chintaa rog |1| are afflicted by the disease of anxiety. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਉਨ ਵਡਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ kaun vaddaa maaeaa vaddiaaee | Who is great by the greatness of Maya? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋ ਵਡਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਾਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ so vaddaa jin raam liv laaee |1| rahaau | They alone are great, who are lovingly attached to the Lord. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭੂਮੀਆ ਭੂਮਿ ਊਪਰਿ ਨਿਤ ਲੁਝੈ ॥ bhoomeea bhoom aoopar nit lujhai | The landlord fights over his land each day. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਛੋਡਿ ਚਲੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਨਹੀ ਬੁਝੈ ॥੨॥ chhodd chalai trisanaa nahee bujhai |2| He shall have to leave it in the end, and yet his desire is still not satisfied. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥ kahu naanak ihu tat beechaaraa | Says Nanak, this is the essence of Truth: - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨ ਨਾਹੀ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ॥੩॥੪੪॥੧੧੩॥ bin har bhajan naahee chhuttakaaraa |3|44|113| without the Lord’s meditation, there is no salvation. ||3||44||113|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥ sabh kichh pooraa hiradai naam |1| Everything is perfect, if the Naam is in the heart. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੂਰੀ ਰਹੀ ਜਾ ਪੂਰੈ ਰਾਖੀ ॥ pooree rahee jaa poorai raakhee | One’s honor remains perfect, when the Perfect Lord preserves it. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਜਨ ਤਾਕੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ paarabraham kee saran jan taakee |1| rahaau | His servant takes to the Sanctuary of the Supreme Lord God. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੂਰਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ॥ pooraa sukh pooraa santokh | Perfect is the peace; perfect is the contentment. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੂਰਾ ਤਪੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਰਾਜੁ ਜੋਗੁ ॥੨॥ pooraa tap pooran raaj jog |2| Perfect is the penance; perfect is the Raja Yoga, the Yoga of meditation and success. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਤਿਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ॥ har kai maarag patit puneet | On the Lord’s Path, sinners are purified. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੂਰੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਲੋਕੀਕ ॥੩॥ pooree sobhaa pooraa lokeek |3| Perfect is their glory; perfect is their humanity. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ਸਦ ਵਸੈ ਹਦੂਰਾ ॥ karanahaar sad vasai hadooraa | They dwell forever in the Presence of the Creator Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
