ਬਿਆਪਤ ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ॥ biaapat harakh sog bisathaar | It torments us with the expression of pleasure and pain. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਸੁਰਗ ਨਰਕ ਅਵਤਾਰ ॥ biaapat surag narak avataar | It torments us through incarnations in heaven and hell. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਧਨ ਨਿਰਧਨ ਪੇਖਿ ਸੋਭਾ ॥ biaapat dhan niradhan pekh sobhaa | It is seen to afflict the rich, the poor and the glorious. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੂਲੁ ਬਿਆਧੀ ਬਿਆਪਸਿ ਲੋਭਾ ॥੧॥ mool biaadhee biaapas lobhaa |1| The source of this illness which torments us is greed. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਬਿਆਪਤ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥ biaapat putr kalatr sang raataa | It torments us through the love of children and spouse. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਹਸਤਿ ਘੋੜੇ ਅਰੁ ਬਸਤਾ ॥ biaapat hasat ghorre ar basataa | It torments us through elephants, horses and beautiful clothes. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਰੂਪ ਜੋਬਨ ਮਦ ਮਸਤਾ ॥੨॥ biaapat roop joban mad masataa |2| It torments us through the intoxication of wine and the beauty of youth. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਭੂਮਿ ਰੰਕ ਅਰੁ ਰੰਗਾ ॥ biaapat bhoom rank ar rangaa | It torments landlords, paupers and lovers of pleasure. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਗੀਤ ਨਾਦ ਸੁਣਿ ਸੰਗਾ ॥ biaapat geet naad sun sangaa | It torments us through the sweet sounds of music and parties. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਸੇਜ ਮਹਲ ਸੀਗਾਰ ॥ biaapat sej mehal seegaar | It torments us through beautiful beds, palaces and decorations. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਅੰਧਿਆਰ ॥੩॥ panch doot biaapat andhiaar |3| It torments us through the darkness of the five evil passions. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੈ ਹਉ ਫਾਸਾ ॥ biaapat karam karai hau faasaa | It torments those who act, entangled in ego. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਆਪਤਿ ਗਿਰਸਤ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥ biaapat girasat biaapat udaasaa | It torments us through household affairs, and it torments us in renunciation. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਚਾਰ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਇਹ ਜਾਤਿ ॥ aachaar biauhaar biaapat ih jaat | It torments us through character, lifestyle and social status. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗ ਰਾਤ ॥੪॥ sabh kichh biaapat bin har rang raat |4| It torments us through everything, except for those who are imbued with the Love of the Lord. ||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤਨ ਕੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥ santan ke bandhan kaatte har raae | The Sovereign Lord King has cut away the bonds of His Saints. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਾ ਕਉ ਕਹਾ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਮਾਇ ॥ taa kau kahaa biaapai maae | How can Maya torment them? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨਿ ਧੂਰਿ ਸੰਤ ਪਾਈ ॥ kahu naanak jin dhoor sant paaee | Says Nanak, Maya does not draw near those - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਨੈਨਹੁ ਨੀਦ ਪਰ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥ nainahu need par drisatt vikaar | The eyes are asleep in corruption, gazing upon the beauty of another. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਸੋਏ ਸੁਣਿ ਨਿੰਦ ਵੀਚਾਰ ॥ sravan soe sun nind veechaar | The ears are asleep, listening to slanderous stories. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰਸਨਾ ਸੋਈ ਲੋਭਿ ਮੀਠੈ ਸਾਦਿ ॥ rasanaa soee lobh meetthai saad | The tongue is asleep, in its desire for sweet flavors. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨੁ ਸੋਇਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਬਿਸਮਾਦਿ ॥੧॥ man soeaa maaeaa bisamaad |1| The mind is asleep, fascinated by Maya. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਇਸੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮਹਿ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਗਤੁ ਰਹੈ ॥ eis grih meh koee jaagat rahai | Those who remain awake in this house are very rare; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਬਤੁ ਵਸਤੁ ਓਹੁ ਅਪਨੀ ਲਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ saabat vasat ohu apanee lahai |1| rahaau | by doing so, they receive the whole thing. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਗਲ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਅਪਨੈ ਰਸ ਮਾਤੀ ॥ sagal sahelee apanai ras maatee | All of my companions are intoxicated with their sensory pleasures; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕੀ ਖਬਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਤੀ ॥ grih apune kee khabar na jaatee | they do not know how to guard their own home. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੁਸਨਹਾਰ ਪੰਚ ਬਟਵਾਰੇ ॥ musanahaar panch battavaare | The five thieves have plundered them; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੂਨੇ ਨਗਰਿ ਪਰੇ ਠਗਹਾਰੇ ॥੨॥ soone nagar pare tthagahaare |2| the thugs descend upon the unguarded village. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਉਨ ਤੇ ਰਾਖੈ ਬਾਪੁ ਨ ਮਾਈ ॥ aun te raakhai baap na maaee | Our mothers and fathers cannot save us from them; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਉਨ ਤੇ ਰਾਖੈ ਮੀਤੁ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥ aun te raakhai meet na bhaaee | friends and brothers cannot protect us from them - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਰਬਿ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਨਾ ਓਇ ਰਹਤੇ ॥ darab siaanap naa oe rahate | they cannot be restrained by wealth or cleverness. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਓਇ ਦੁਸਟ ਵਸਿ ਹੋਤੇ ॥੩॥ saadhasang oe dusatt vas hote |3| Only through the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, can those villains be brought under control. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਾਰਿੰਗਪਾਣਿ ॥ kar kirapaa mohi saaringapaan | Have Mercy upon me, O Lord, Sustainer of the world. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤਨ ਧੂਰਿ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥ santan dhoor sarab nidhaan | The dust of the feet of the Saints is all the treasure I need. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਬਤੁ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੰਗਿ ॥ saabat poonjee satigur sang | In the Company of the True Guru, one’s investment remains intact. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਾਗੈ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੪॥ naanak jaagai paarabraham kai rang |4| Nanak is awake to the Love of the Supreme Lord. ||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋ ਜਾਗੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਿਰਪਾਲੁ ॥ so jaagai jis prabh kirapaal | He alone is awake, unto whom God shows His Mercy. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਇਹ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਸਾਬਤੁ ਧਨੁ ਮਾਲੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੨੦॥੮੯॥ eih poonjee saabat dhan maal |1| rahaau doojaa |20|89| This investment, wealth and property shall remain intact. ||1||Second Pause||20||89|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਹੈ ਸਗਲ ਜਹਾਨ ॥ jaa kai vas hai sagal jahaan | The whole world is under His Power. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ jaa kaa keea sabh kichh hoe | Everything is done by His doing; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ tis te baahar naahee koe |1| other than Him, there is nothing at all. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਹੁ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਾਹਿ ॥ kahu benantee apune satigur paeh | Offer your prayers to your True Guru; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਾਜ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ਦੇਇ ਨਿਬਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ kaaj tumaare dee nibaeh |1| rahaau | He will resolve your affairs. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਦਰਬਾਰੁ ॥ sabh te aooch jaa kaa darabaar | The Darbaar of His Court is the most exalted of all. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਗਲ ਭਗਤ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥ sagal bhagat jaa kaa naam adhaar | His Name is the Support of all His devotees. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਰਬ ਬਿਆਪਿਤ ਪੂਰਨ ਧਨੀ ॥ sarab biaapit pooran dhanee | The Perfect Master is pervading everywhere. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਬਨੀ ॥੨॥ jaa kee sobhaa ghatt ghatt banee |2| His Glory is manifest in each and every heart. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਦੁਖ ਡੇਰਾ ਢਹੈ ॥ jis simarat dukh dderaa dtahai | Remembering Him in meditation, the home of sorrow is abolished. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਜਮੁ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਕਹੈ ॥ jis simarat jam kichhoo na kahai | Remembering Him in meditation, the Messenger of Death shall not touch you. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਹੋਤ ਸੂਕੇ ਹਰੇ ॥ jis simarat hot sooke hare | Remembering Him in meditation, the dry branches become green again. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
