ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਬਿਭੂਤ ਲਾਇ ਦੇਹ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥ saniaasee bibhoot laae deh savaaree | The Sannyaasee smears his body with ashes; - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਪਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਅ ਤਿਆਗੁ ਕਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਚਾਰੀ ॥ par tria tiaag karee brahamachaaree | renouncing other men’s women, he practices celibacy. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਮੈ ਮੂਰਖ ਹਰਿ ਆਸ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥੨॥ mai moorakh har aas tumaaree |2| I am just a fool, Lord; I place my hopes in You! ||2|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਖਤ੍ਰੀ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਸੂਰਤਣੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ khatree karam kare sooratan paavai | The Kh’shaatriya acts bravely, and is recognized as a warrior. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸੂਦੁ ਵੈਸੁ ਪਰ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥ sood vais par kirat kamaavai | The Shoodra and the Vaisha work and slave for others; - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਮੈ ਮੂਰਖ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਛਡਾਵੈ ॥੩॥ mai moorakh har naam chhaddaavai |3| I am just a fool - I am saved by the Lord’s Name. ||3|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥ sabh teree srisatt toon aap rahiaa samaaee | The entire Universe is Yours; You Yourself permeate and pervade it. - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਭਜੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਜਨ ਕੀ ॥ bhaj mil saadhoo sangat jan kee | Vibrate on it, meditate on it, and join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਤਰੁ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ॥੧॥ tar bhaujal akath kathaa sun har kee |1| Cross over the terrifying world-ocean, listening to the Unspoken Speech of the Lord. ||1|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਜੋ ਜਨ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ॥ jo jan dhiaaveh har har naamaa | Those humble beings who meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਤਿਨ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸ ਕਰਹੁ ਹਮ ਰਾਮਾ ॥ tin daasan daas karahu ham raamaa | please make me the slave of their slaves, Lord. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਨ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਊਤਮ ਕਾਮਾ ॥੨॥ jan kee sevaa aootam kaamaa |2| Serving Your slaves is the ultimate good deed. ||2|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਣਾਵੈ ॥ jo har kee har kathaa sunaavai | One who chants the Speech of the Lord - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਹਮਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ so jan hamarai man chit bhaavai | that humble servant is pleasing to my conscious mind. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਨ ਪਗ ਰੇਣੁ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥ jan pag ren vaddabhaagee paavai |3| Those who are blessed with great good fortune obtain the dust of the feet of the humble. ||3|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਬਨਿ ਆਈ ॥ sant janaa siau preet ban aaee | Those who are blessed with such pre-ordained destiny - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਲਿਖਤੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ jin kau likhat likhiaa dhur paaee | Are in love with the humble Saints. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਤੇ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੪॥੨॥੪੦॥ te jan naanak naam samaaee |4|2|40| Those humble beings, O Nanak, are absorbed in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||2||40|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਮੀਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਭਈ ਜਲਿ ਨਾਇ ॥ meene preet bhee jal naae | The fish loves to bathe in the water. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ satigur preet gurasikh mukh paae |1| The True Guru loves to place food in the mouth of His GurSikh. ||1|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਹਮ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥ te har jan har melahu ham piaare | If only I could meet those humble servants of the Lord, O my Beloved. - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਜਿਉ ਮਿਲਿ ਬਛਰੇ ਗਊ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਵੈ ॥ jiau mil bachhare gaoo preet lagaavai | As the cow shows her love to her strayed calf when she finds it, - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਕਾਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਜਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ॥ kaaman preet jaa pir ghar aavai | and as the bride shows her love for her husband when he returns home, - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਜਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵੈ ॥੨॥ har jan preet jaa har jas gaavai |2| so does the Lord’s humble servant love to sing the Praises of the Lord. ||2|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਾਰਿੰਗ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਬਸੈ ਜਲ ਧਾਰਾ ॥ saaring preet basai jal dhaaraa | The rainbird loves the rainwater, falling in torrents; - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਨਰਪਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇਖਿ ਪਸਾਰਾ ॥ narapat preet maaeaa dekh pasaaraa | the king loves to see his wealth on display. - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਹੋਰੁ ਸਭ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਕਾਚਾ ॥ hor sabh preet maaeaa mohu kaachaa | All other loves and emotional attachment to Maya are false. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਇ ਕੂਰਾ ਕਚੁ ਪਾਚਾ ॥ binas jaae kooraa kach paachaa | They shall pass away, like false and transitory decorations. - Guru Ramdas Ji
