ਤੀਜੈ ਮੁਹੀ ਗਿਰਾਹ ਭੁਖ ਤਿਖਾ ਦੁਇ ਭਉਕੀਆ ॥ teejai muhee giraah bhukh tikhaa due bhaukeea | In the third watch, both hunger and thirst bark for attention, and food is put into the mouth. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਖਾਧਾ ਹੋਇ ਸੁਆਹ ਭੀ ਖਾਣੇ ਸਿਉ ਦੋਸਤੀ ॥ khaadhaa hoe suaah bhee khaane siau dosatee | That which is eaten becomes dust, but they are still attached to eating. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਚਉਥੈ ਆਈ ਊਂਘ ਅਖੀ ਮੀਟਿ ਪਵਾਰਿ ਗਇਆ ॥ chauthai aaee aoongh akhee meett pavaar geaa | In the fourth watch, they become drowsy. They close their eyes and begin to dream. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਭੀ ਉਠਿ ਰਚਿਓਨੁ ਵਾਦੁ ਸੈ ਵਰਿੑਆ ਕੀ ਪਿੜ ਬਧੀ ॥ bhee utth rachion vaad sai varaa kee pirr badhee | Rising up again, they engage in conflicts; they set the stage as if they will live for 100 years. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਸਭੇ ਵੇਲਾ ਵਖਤ ਸਭਿ ਜੇ ਅਠੀ ਭਉ ਹੋਇ ॥ sabhe velaa vakhat sabh je atthee bhau hoe | If at all times, at each and every moment, they live in the fear of God - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਵਣੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ naanak saahib man vasai sachaa naavan hoe |1| -O Nanak, the Lord dwells within their minds, and their cleansing bath is true. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਸੇਈ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਾਹ ਜਿਨੀ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ seee poore saah jinee pooraa paaeaa | They are the perfect kings, who have found the Perfect Lord. - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਅਠੀ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹ ਰਹਨਿ ਇਕਤੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥ atthee veparavaah rehan ikatai rang | Twenty-four hours a day, they remain unconcerned, imbued with the Love of the One Lord. - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਦਰਸਨਿ ਰੂਪਿ ਅਥਾਹ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਪਾਈਅਹਿ ॥ darasan roop athaah virale paaeeeh | Only a few obtain the Darshan, the Blessed Vision of the Unimaginably Beauteous Lord. - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਕਰਮਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਪੂਰਾ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਬੋਲੁ ॥ karam poorai pooraa guroo pooraa jaa kaa bol | Through the perfect karma of good deeds, one meets the Perfect Guru, whose speech is perfect. - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰਾ ਜੇ ਕਰੇ ਘਟੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੋਲੁ ॥੨॥ naanak pooraa je kare ghattai naahee tol |2| O Nanak, when the Guru makes one perfect, one’s weight does not decrease. ||2|| - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਪਉੜੀ ॥ paurree | Pauree: - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਤਾ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਰਿ ਮੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਣਾਈਐ ॥ jaa toon taa kiaa hor mai sach sunaaeeai | When You are with me, what more could I want? I speak only the Truth. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਮੁਠੀ ਧੰਧੈ ਚੋਰਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ mutthee dhandhai chor mehal na paaeeai | Plundered by the thieves of worldly affairs, she does not obtain the Mansion of His Presence. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਏਨੈ ਚਿਤਿ ਕਠੋਰਿ ਸੇਵ ਗਵਾਈਐ ॥ enai chit katthor sev gavaaeeai | Being so stone-hearted, she has lost her chance to serve the Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਜਿਤੁ ਘਟਿ ਸਚੁ ਨ ਪਾਇ ਸੁ ਭੰਨਿ ਘੜਾਈਐ ॥ jit ghatt sach na paae su bhan gharraaeeai | That heart, in which the True Lord is not found, should be torn down and re-built. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਵਟਿ ਤੋਲਿ ਤੁਲਾਈਐ ॥ kiau kar poorai vatt tol tulaaeeai | How can she be weighed accurately, upon the scale of perfection? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਕੋਇ ਨ ਆਖੈ ਘਟਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਈਐ ॥ koe na aakhai ghatt haumai jaaeeai | No one will say that her weight has been shorted, if she rids herself of egotism. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਲਈਅਨਿ ਖਰੇ ਪਰਖਿ ਦਰਿ ਬੀਨਾਈਐ ॥ leean khare parakh dar beenaaeeai | The genuine are assayed, and accepted in the Court of the All-knowing Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਸਉਦਾ ਇਕਤੁ ਹਟਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧੭॥ saudaa ikat hatt poorai gur paaeeai |17| The genuine merchandise is found only in one shop-it is obtained from the Perfect Guru. ||17|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੨ ॥ salok mahalaa 2 | Salok, Second Mehl: - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਅਠੀ ਪਹਰੀ ਅਠ ਖੰਡ ਨਾਵਾ ਖੰਡੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥ atthee paharee atth khandd naavaa khandd sareer | Twenty-four hours a day, destroy the eight things, and in the ninth place, conquer the body. - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਏਕੁ ਭਾਲਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰੁ ॥ tis vich nau nidh naam ek bhaaleh gunee gaheer | Within the body are the nine treasures of the Name of the Lord-seek the depths of these virtues. - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਕਰਮਵੰਤੀ ਸਾਲਾਹਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੀਰੁ ॥ karamavantee saalaahiaa naanak kar gur peer | Those blessed with the karma of good actions praise the Lord. O Nanak, they make the Guru their spiritual teacher. - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਚਉਥੈ ਪਹਰਿ ਸਬਾਹ ਕੈ ਸੁਰਤਿਆ ਉਪਜੈ ਚਾਉ ॥ chauthai pehar sabaah kai suratiaa upajai chaau | In the fourth watch of the early morning hours, a longing arises in their higher consciousness. - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਤਿਨਾ ਦਰੀਆਵਾ ਸਿਉ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਮਨਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥ tinaa dareeaavaa siau dosatee man mukh sachaa naau | They are attuned to the river of life; the True Name is in their minds and on their lips. - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਓਥੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਵੰਡੀਐ ਕਰਮੀ ਹੋਇ ਪਸਾਉ ॥ othai amrit vanddeeai karamee hoe pasaau | The Ambrosial Nectar is distributed, and those with good karma receive this gift. - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਕੰਚਨ ਕਾਇਆ ਕਸੀਐ ਵੰਨੀ ਚੜੈ ਚੜਾਉ ॥ kanchan kaaeaa kaseeai vanee charrai charraau | Their bodies become golden, and take on the color of spirituality. - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਜੇ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਦਰਿ ਸਰਾਫ ਕੀ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ਤਾਉ ॥ je hovai nadar saraaf kee bahurr na paaee taau | If the Jeweller casts His Glance of Grace, they are not placed in the fire again. - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਸਤੀ ਪਹਰੀ ਸਤੁ ਭਲਾ ਬਹੀਐ ਪੜਿਆ ਪਾਸਿ ॥ satee paharee sat bhalaa baheeai parriaa paas | Throughout the other seven watches of the day, it is good to speak the Truth, and sit with the spiritually wise. - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਓਥੈ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੀਐ ਕੂੜੈ ਘਟੈ ਰਾਸਿ ॥ othai paap pun beechaareeai koorrai ghattai raas | There, vice and virtue are distinguished, and the capital of falsehood is decreased. - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਓਥੈ ਖੋਟੇ ਸਟੀਅਹਿ ਖਰੇ ਕੀਚਹਿ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥ othai khotte satteeeh khare keecheh saabaas | There, the counterfeit are cast aside, and the genuine are cheered. - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਬੋਲਣੁ ਫਾਦਲੁ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਖਸਮੈ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੧॥ bolan faadal naanakaa dukh sukh khasamai paas |1| Speech is vain and useless. O Nanak, pain and pleasure are in the power of our Lord and Master. ||1|| - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਪਉਣੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਣੀ ਪਿਤਾ ਮਾਤਾ ਧਰਤਿ ਮਹਤੁ ॥ paun guroo paanee pitaa maataa dharat mehat | Air is the Guru, Water is the Father, and Earth is the Great Mother of all. - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਦੁਇ ਦਾਈ ਦਾਇਆ ਖੇਲੈ ਸਗਲ ਜਗਤੁ ॥ dinas raat due daaee daaeaa khelai sagal jagat | Day and night are the two nurses, in whose lap all the world is at play. - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆ ਬੁਰਿਆਈਆ ਵਾਚੇ ਧਰਮੁ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥ changiaaeea buriaaeea vaache dharam hadoor | Good deeds and bad deeds-the record is read out in the Presence of the Lord of Dharma. - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਕਰਮੀ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੀ ਕੇ ਨੇੜੈ ਕੇ ਦੂਰਿ ॥ karamee aapo aapanee ke nerrai ke door | According to their own actions, some are drawn closer, and some are driven farther away. - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਗਏ ਮਸਕਤਿ ਘਾਲਿ ॥ jinee naam dhiaaeaa ge masakat ghaal | Those who have meditated on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and departed after having worked by the sweat of their brow - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਹੋਰ ਕੇਤੀ ਛੁਟੀ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੨॥ naanak te mukh ujale hor ketee chhuttee naal |2| -O Nanak, their faces are radiant in the Court of the Lord, and many others are saved along with them! ||2|| - Guru Angad Dev Ji

ਸਚਾ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਭਾਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦਸਿਆ ॥ sachaa bhojan bhaau satigur dasiaa | The True Food is the Love of the Lord; the True Guru has spoken. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਸਚੇ ਹੀ ਪਤੀਆਇ ਸਚਿ ਵਿਗਸਿਆ ॥ sache hee pateeae sach vigasiaa | With this True Food, I am satisfied, and with the Truth, I am delighted. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਸਚੈ ਕੋਟਿ ਗਿਰਾਂਇ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ॥ sachai kott giraane nij ghar vasiaa | True are the cities and the villages, where one abides in the True Home of the self. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਤੁਠੈ ਨਾਉ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਰਹਸਿਆ ॥ satigur tutthai naau prem rahasiaa | When the True Guru is pleased, one receives the Lord’s Name, and blossoms forth in His Love. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਸਚੈ ਦੈ ਦੀਬਾਣਿ ਕੂੜਿ ਨ ਜਾਈਐ ॥ sachai dai deebaan koorr na jaaeeai | No one enters the Court of the True Lord through falsehood. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਝੂਠੋ ਝੂਠੁ ਵਖਾਣਿ ਸੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਖੁਆਈਐ ॥ jhoottho jhootth vakhaan su mehal khuaaeeai | By uttering falsehood and only falsehood, the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence is lost. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
