ਪਰਬਤੁ ਸੁਇਨਾ ਰੁਪਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਹੀਰੇ ਲਾਲ ਜੜਾਉ ॥ parabat sueinaa rupaa hovai heere laal jarraau | if the mountains became gold and silver, studded with gems and jewels - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਭੀ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਆਖਣ ਲਹੈ ਨ ਚਾਉ ॥੧॥ bhee toonhai saalaahanaa aakhan lahai na chaau |1| -even then, I would worship and adore You, and my longing to chant Your Praises would not decrease. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਭਾਰ ਅਠਾਰਹ ਮੇਵਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਗਰੁੜਾ ਹੋਇ ਸੁਆਉ ॥ bhaar atthaarah mevaa hovai garurraa hoe suaau | If all the eighteen loads of vegetation became fruits, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਚੰਦੁ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਦੁਇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਰਖੀਅਹਿ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਥਾਉ ॥ chand sooraj due firade rakheeeh nihachal hovai thaau | and the growing grass became sweet rice; if I were able to stop the sun and the moon in their orbits and hold them perfectly steady - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਜੇ ਦੇਹੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਈਐ ਪਾਪ ਗਰਹ ਦੁਇ ਰਾਹੁ ॥ je dehai dukh laaeeai paap garah due raahu | If my body were afflicted with pain, under the evil influence of unlucky stars; - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਰਤੁ ਪੀਣੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਸਿਰੈ ਉਪਰਿ ਰਖੀਅਹਿ ਏਵੈ ਜਾਪੈ ਭਾਉ ॥ rat peene raaje sirai upar rakheeeh evai jaapai bhaau | and if the blood-sucking kings were to hold power over me - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਅਗੀ ਪਾਲਾ ਕਪੜੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਖਾਣਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਵਾਉ ॥ agee paalaa kaparr hovai khaanaa hovai vaau | If fire and ice were my clothes, and the wind was my food; - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸੁਰਗੈ ਦੀਆ ਮੋਹਣੀਆ ਇਸਤਰੀਆ ਹੋਵਨਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਭੋ ਜਾਉ ॥ suragai deea mohaneea isatareea hovan naanak sabho jaau | and even if the enticing heavenly beauties were my wives, O Nanak-all this shall pass away! - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਬਦਫੈਲੀ ਗੈਬਾਨਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ॥ badafailee gaibaanaa khasam na jaanee | The foolish demon, who does evil deeds, does not know his Lord and Master. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸੋ ਕਹੀਐ ਦੇਵਾਨਾ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣਈ ॥ so kaheeai devaanaa aap na pachhaanee | Call him a mad-man, if he does not understand himself. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਲਹਿ ਬੁਰੀ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ਵਾਦੇ ਖਪੀਐ ॥ kaleh buree sansaar vaade khapeeai | The strife of this world is evil; these struggles are consuming it. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਵੇਕਾਰਿ ਭਰਮੇ ਪਚੀਐ ॥ vin naavai vekaar bharame pacheeai | Without the Lord’s Name, life is worthless. Through doubt, the people are being destroyed. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਰਾਹ ਦੋਵੈ ਇਕੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੋਈ ਸਿਝਸੀ ॥ raah dovai ik jaanai soee sijhasee | One who recognizes that all spiritual paths lead to the One shall be emancipated. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕੁਫਰ ਗੋਅ ਕੁਫਰਾਣੈ ਪਇਆ ਦਝਸੀ ॥ kufar goa kufaraanai peaa dajhasee | One who speaks lies shall fall into hell and burn. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਭ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਸੁਬਹਾਨੁ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ॥ sabh duneea subahaan sach samaaeeai | In all the world, the most blessed and sanctified are those who remain absorbed in Truth. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਿਝੈ ਦਰਿ ਦੀਵਾਨਿ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਈਐ ॥੯॥ sijhai dar deevaan aap gavaaeeai |9| One who eliminates selfishness and conceit is redeemed in the Court of the Lord. ||9|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਸੋ ਜੀਵਿਆ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸੋਇ ॥ so jeeviaa jis man vasiaa soe | They alone are truly alive, whose minds are filled with the Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜੀਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ naanak avar na jeevai koe | O Nanak, no one else is truly alive; - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜੇ ਜੀਵੈ ਪਤਿ ਲਥੀ ਜਾਇ ॥ je jeevai pat lathee jaae | those who merely live shall depart in dishonor; - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਭੁ ਹਰਾਮੁ ਜੇਤਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਖਾਇ ॥ sabh haraam jetaa kichh khaae | everything they eat is impure. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਰਾਜਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਲਿ ਰੰਗੁ ॥ raaj rang maal rang | Intoxicated with power and thrilled with wealth, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਾ ਨਚੈ ਨੰਗੁ ॥ rang rataa nachai nang | They delight in their pleasures, and dance about shamelessly. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਠਗਿਆ ਮੁਠਾ ਜਾਇ ॥ naanak tthagiaa mutthaa jaae | O Nanak, they are deluded and defrauded. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਪਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਗਵਾਇ ॥੧॥ vin naavai pat geaa gavaae |1| Without the Lord’s Name, they lose their honor and depart. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਕਿਆ ਖਾਧੈ ਕਿਆ ਪੈਧੈ ਹੋਇ ॥ kiaa khaadhai kiaa paidhai hoe | What good is food, and what good are clothes, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਾ ਮਨਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥ jaa man naahee sachaa soe | if the True Lord does not abide within the mind? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਿਆ ਮੇਵਾ ਕਿਆ ਘਿਉ ਗੁੜੁ ਮਿਠਾ ਕਿਆ ਮੈਦਾ ਕਿਆ ਮਾਸੁ ॥ kiaa mevaa kiaa ghiau gurr mitthaa kiaa maidaa kiaa maas | What good are fruits, what good is ghee, sweet jaggery, what good is flour, and what good is meat? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਿਆ ਕਪੜੁ ਕਿਆ ਸੇਜ ਸੁਖਾਲੀ ਕੀਜਹਿ ਭੋਗ ਬਿਲਾਸ ॥ kiaa kaparr kiaa sej sukhaalee keejeh bhog bilaas | What good are clothes, and what good is a soft bed, to enjoy pleasures and sensual delights? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਿਆ ਲਸਕਰ ਕਿਆ ਨੇਬ ਖਵਾਸੀ ਆਵੈ ਮਹਲੀ ਵਾਸੁ ॥ kiaa lasakar kiaa neb khavaasee aavai mahalee vaas | What good is an army, and what good are soldiers, servants and mansions to live in? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਭੇ ਟੋਲ ਵਿਣਾਸੁ ॥੨॥ naanak sache naam vin sabhe ttol vinaas |2| O Nanak, without the True Name, all this paraphernalia shall disappear. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪਵੜੀ ॥ pavarree | Pauree: - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਾਤੀ ਦੈ ਕਿਆ ਹਥਿ ਸਚੁ ਪਰਖੀਐ ॥ jaatee dai kiaa hath sach parakheeai | What good is social class and status? Truthfulness is measured within. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਹੁਰਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਹਥਿ ਮਰੀਐ ਚਖੀਐ ॥ mahuraa hovai hath mareeai chakheeai | Pride in one’s status is like poison-holding it in your hand and eating it, you shall die. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਚੇ ਕੀ ਸਿਰਕਾਰ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਜਾਣੀਐ ॥ sache kee sirakaar jug jug jaaneeai | The True Lord’s Sovereign Rule is known throughout the ages. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮੰਨੇ ਸਿਰਦਾਰੁ ਦਰਿ ਦੀਬਾਣੀਐ ॥ hukam mane siradaar dar deebaaneeai | One who respects the Hukam of the Lord’s Command is honored and respected in the Court of the Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਫੁਰਮਾਨੀ ਹੈ ਕਾਰ ਖਸਮਿ ਪਠਾਇਆ ॥ furamaanee hai kaar khasam patthaaeaa | By the Order of our Lord and Master, we have been brought into this world. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤਬਲਬਾਜ ਬੀਚਾਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ॥ tabalabaaj beechaar sabad sunaaeaa | The Drummer, the Guru, has announced the Lord’s meditation, through the Word of the Shabad. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਇਕਿ ਹੋਏ ਅਸਵਾਰ ਇਕਨਾ ਸਾਖਤੀ ॥ eik hoe asavaar ikanaa saakhatee | Some have mounted their horses in response, and others are saddling up. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਇਕਨੀ ਬਧੇ ਭਾਰ ਇਕਨਾ ਤਾਖਤੀ ॥੧੦॥ eikanee badhe bhaar ikanaa taakhatee |10| Some have tied up their bridles, and others have already ridden off. ||10|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਜਾ ਪਕਾ ਤਾ ਕਟਿਆ ਰਹੀ ਸੁ ਪਲਰਿ ਵਾੜਿ ॥ jaa pakaa taa kattiaa rahee su palar vaarr | When the crop is ripe, then it is cut down; only the stalks are left standing. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਣੁ ਕੀਸਾਰਾ ਚਿਥਿਆ ਕਣੁ ਲਇਆ ਤਨੁ ਝਾੜਿ ॥ san keesaaraa chithiaa kan leaa tan jhaarr | The corn on the cob is put into the thresher, and the kernels are separated from the cobs. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਦੁਇ ਪੁੜ ਚਕੀ ਜੋੜਿ ਕੈ ਪੀਸਣ ਆਇ ਬਹਿਠੁ ॥ due purr chakee jorr kai peesan aae bahitth | Placing the kernels between the two mill-stones, people sit and grind the corn. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਦਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਸੁ ਉਬਰੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਜਬੁ ਡਿਠੁ ॥੧॥ jo dar rahe su ubare naanak ajab dditth |1| Those kernels which stick to the central axle are spared-Nanak has seen this wonderful vision! ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
