ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਪਿਆਸ ਦਰਸਨ ਘਣੀ ਕੋਈ ਆਣਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਮਾਇ ॥ man tan piaas darasan ghanee koee aan milaavai maae | My mind and body are so thirsty for the Blessed Vision of His Darshan. Won’t someone please come and lead me to him, O my mother. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤ ਸਹਾਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੇ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਲਾਗਾ ਪਾਇ ॥ sant sahaaee prem ke hau tin kai laagaa paae | The Saints are the helpers of the Lord’s lovers; I fall and touch their feet. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਵਿਣੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਉ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਦੂਜੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਾਇ ॥ vin prabh kiau sukh paaeeai doojee naahee jaae | Without God, how can I find peace? There is nowhere else to go. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿੰਨੑੀ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸੁ ਸੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਰਹੇ ਆਘਾਇ ॥ jinaee chaakhiaa prem ras se tripat rahe aaghaae | Those who have tasted the sublime essence of His Love, remain satisfied and fulfilled. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਪੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਬਿਨਤੀ ਕਰਹਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਲੜਿ ਲਾਇ ॥ aap tiaag binatee kareh lehu prabhoo larr laae | They renounce their selfishness and conceit, and they pray, “God, please attach me to the hem of Your robe.” - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਕੰਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਈਆ ਸਿ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਕਤਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ jo har kant milaaeea si vichhurr kateh na jaae | Those whom the Husband Lord has united with Himself, shall not be separated from Him again. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਵਿਣੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਾਇ ॥ prabh vin doojaa ko nahee naanak har saranaae | Without God, there is no other at all. Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਸੂ ਸੁਖੀ ਵਸੰਦੀਆ ਜਿਨਾ ਮਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥੮॥ asoo sukhee vasandeea jinaa meaa har raae |8| In Assu, the Lord, the Sovereign King, has granted His Mercy, and they dwell in peace. ||8|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਤਿਕਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਣੇ ਦੋਸੁ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਜੋਗੁ ॥ katik karam kamaavane dos na kaahoo jog | In the month of Katak, do good deeds. Do not try to blame anyone else. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਤੇ ਭੁਲਿਆਂ ਵਿਆਪਨਿ ਸਭੇ ਰੋਗ ॥ paramesar te bhuliaan viaapan sabhe rog | Forgetting the Transcendent Lord, all sorts of illnesses are contracted. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਵੇਮੁਖ ਹੋਏ ਰਾਮ ਤੇ ਲਗਨਿ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਜੋਗ ॥ vemukh hoe raam te lagan janam vijog | Those who turn their backs on the Lord shall be separated from Him and consigned to reincarnation, over and over again. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਕਉੜੇ ਹੋਇ ਗਏ ਜਿਤੜੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਭੋਗ ॥ khin meh kaurre hoe ge jitarre maaeaa bhog | In an instant, all of Maya’s sensual pleasures turn bitter. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਵਿਚੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਕਰਿ ਸਕੈ ਕਿਸ ਥੈ ਰੋਵਹਿ ਰੋਜ ॥ vich na koee kar sakai kis thai roveh roj | No one can then serve as your intermediary. Unto whom can we turn and cry? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਸੰਜੋਗ ॥ keetaa kichhoo na hovee likhiaa dhur sanjog | By one’s own actions, nothing can be done; destiny was pre-determined from the very beginning. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਤਰਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਬਿਓਗ ॥ vaddabhaagee meraa prabh milai taan utareh sabh biog | By great good fortune, I meet my God, and then all pain of separation departs. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਬੰਦੀ ਮੋਚ ॥ naanak kau prabh raakh lehi mere saahib bandee moch | Please protect Nanak, God; O my Lord and Master, please release me from bondage. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਤਿਕ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ਬਿਨਸਹਿ ਸਭੇ ਸੋਚ ॥੯॥ katik hovai saadhasang binaseh sabhe soch |9| In Katak, in the Company of the Holy, all anxiety vanishes. ||9|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੰਘਿਰਿ ਮਾਹਿ ਸੋਹੰਦੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਬੈਠੜੀਆਹ ॥ manghir maeh sohandeea har pir sang baittharreeaah | In the month of Maghar, those who sit with their Beloved Husband Lord are beautiful. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਕਿਆ ਗਣੀ ਜਿ ਸਾਹਿਬਿ ਮੇਲੜੀਆਹ ॥ tin kee sobhaa kiaa ganee ji saahib melarreeaah | How can their glory be measured? Their Lord and Master blends them with Himself. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਉਲਿਆ ਰਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਾਧ ਸਹੇਲੜੀਆਹ ॥ tan man mauliaa raam siau sang saadh sahelarreeaah | Their bodies and minds blossom forth in the Lord; they have the companionship of the Holy Saints. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰੀ ਸੇ ਰਹਨਿ ਇਕੇਲੜੀਆਹ ॥ saadh janaa te baaharee se rehan ikelarreeaah | Those who lack the Company of the Holy, remain all alone. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਨ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਉਤਰੈ ਸੇ ਜਮ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਪੜੀਆਹ ॥ tin dukh na kabahoo utarai se jam kai vas parreeaah | Their pain never departs, and they fall into the grip of the Messenger of Death. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਨੀ ਰਾਵਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੇ ਦਿਸਨਿ ਨਿਤ ਖੜੀਆਹ ॥ jinee raaviaa prabh aapanaa se disan nit kharreeaah | Those who have ravished and enjoyed their God, are seen to be continually exalted and uplifted. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰਤਨ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਲਾਲ ਹਰਿ ਕੰਠਿ ਤਿਨਾ ਜੜੀਆਹ ॥ ratan javehar laal har kantth tinaa jarreeaah | They wear the Necklace of the jewels, emeralds and rubies of the Lord’s Name. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਾਂਛੈ ਧੂੜਿ ਤਿਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣੀ ਦਰਿ ਪੜੀਆਹ ॥ naanak baanchhai dhoorr tin prabh saranee dar parreeaah | Nanak seeks the dust of the feet of those who take to the Sanctuary of the Lord’s Door. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੰਘਿਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਰਾਧਣਾ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਜਨਮੜੀਆਹ ॥੧੦॥ manghir prabh aaraadhanaa bahurr na janamarreeaah |10| Those who worship and adore God in Maghar, do not suffer the cycle of reincarnation ever again. ||10|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੋਖਿ ਤੁਖਾਰੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪਈ ਕੰਠਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਹੁ ॥ pokh tukhaar na viaapee kantth miliaa har naahu | In the month of Poh, the cold does not touch those, whom the Husband Lord hugs close in His Embrace. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਚਰਨਾਰਬਿੰਦ ਦਰਸਨਿ ਲਗੜਾ ਸਾਹੁ ॥ man bedhiaa charanaarabind darasan lagarraa saahu | Their minds are transfixed by His Lotus Feet. They are attached to the Blessed Vision of the Lord’s Darshan. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਓਟ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਰਾਇ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਲਾਹੁ ॥ ott govind gopaal raae sevaa suaamee laahu | Seek the Protection of the Lord of the Universe; His service is truly profitable. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਖਿਆ ਪੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਈ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਹੁ ॥ bikhiaa pohi na sakee mil saadhoo gun gaahu | Corruption shall not touch you, when you join the Holy Saints and sing the Lord’s Praises. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਹ ਤੇ ਉਪਜੀ ਤਹ ਮਿਲੀ ਸਚੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸਮਾਹੁ ॥ jeh te upajee teh milee sachee preet samaahu | From where it originated, there the soul is blended again. It is absorbed in the Love of the True Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰੁ ਗਹਿ ਲੀਨੀ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜੀਆਹੁ ॥ kar geh leenee paarabraham bahurr na vichhurreeaahu | When the Supreme Lord God grasps someone’s hand, he shall never again suffer separation from Him. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਾਰਿ ਜਾਉ ਲਖ ਬੇਰੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਹੁ ॥ baar jaau lakh bereea har sajan agam agaahu | I am a sacrifice, 100,000 times, to the Lord, my Friend, the Unapproachable and Unfathomable. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਰਮ ਪਈ ਨਾਰਾਇਣੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਿ ਪਈਆਹੁ ॥ saram pee naaraaeinai naanak dar peeaahu | Please preserve my honor, Lord; Nanak begs at Your Door. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੋਖੁ ਸੋੁਹੰਦਾ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੇ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ॥੧੧॥ pokh suohandaa sarab sukh jis bakhase veparavaahu |11| Poh is beautiful, and all comforts come to that one, whom the Carefree Lord has forgiven. ||11|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਾਘਿ ਮਜਨੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਾਧੂਆ ਧੂੜੀ ਕਰਿ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥ maagh majan sang saadhooaa dhoorree kar isanaan | In the month of Maagh, let your cleansing bath be the dust of the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੁਣਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਨੋ ਕਰਿ ਦਾਨੁ ॥ har kaa naam dhiaae sun sabhanaa no kar daan | Meditate and listen to the Name of the Lord, and give it to everyone. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਨਮ ਕਰਮ ਮਲੁ ਉਤਰੈ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਜਾਇ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥ janam karam mal utarai man te jaae gumaan | In this way, the filth of lifetimes of karma shall be removed, and egotistical pride shall vanish from your mind. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
