ਚਰਨ ਸੇਵ ਸੰਤ ਸਾਧ ਕੇ ਸਗਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰੇ ॥੩॥ charan sev sant saadh ke sagal manorath poore |3| Serving at the Feet of the Holy Saints, all desires are fulfilled. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਏਕੁ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਪੂਰੇ ॥੪॥ ghatt ghatt ek varatadaa jal thal maheeal poore |4| In each and every heart, the One Lord is pervading. He is totally permeating the water, the land, and the sky. ||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਾਪ ਬਿਨਾਸਨੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਧੂਰੇ ॥੫॥ paap binaasan seviaa pavitr santan kee dhoore |5| I serve the Destroyer of sin, and I am sanctified by the dust of the feet of the Saints. ||5|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਭ ਛਡਾਈ ਖਸਮਿ ਆਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਭਈ ਠਰੂਰੇ ॥੬॥ sabh chhaddaaee khasam aap har jap bhee ttharoore |6| My Lord and Master Himself has saved me completely; I am comforted by meditating on the Lord. ||6|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਤੈ ਕੀਆ ਤਪਾਵਸੋ ਦੁਸਟ ਮੁਏ ਹੋਇ ਮੂਰੇ ॥੭॥ karatai keea tapaavaso dusatt mue hoe moore |7| The Creator has passed judgement, and the evil-doers have been silenced and killed. ||7|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਰਮ ਕੇ ਵੀਛੁੜੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਰਾਮ ॥ kirat karam ke veechhurre kar kirapaa melahu raam | By the actions we have committed, we are separated from You. Please show Your Mercy, and unite us with Yourself, Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਾਰਿ ਕੁੰਟ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਭ੍ਰਮੇ ਥਕਿ ਆਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਸਾਮ ॥ chaar kuntt deh dis bhrame thak aae prabh kee saam | We have grown weary of wandering to the four corners of the earth and in the ten directions. We have come to Your Sanctuary, God. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਧੇਨੁ ਦੁਧੈ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰੀ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਕਾਮ ॥ dhen dudhai te baaharee kitai na aavai kaam | Without milk, a cow serves no purpose. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਖ ਕੁਮਲਾਵਤੀ ਉਪਜਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਦਾਮ ॥ jal bin saakh kumalaavatee upajeh naahee daam | Without water, the crop withers, and it will not bring a good price. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਹ ਨ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਸਾਜਨੈ ਕਤ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਸਰਾਮ ॥ har naah na mileeai saajanai kat paaeeai bisaraam | If we do not meet the Lord, our Friend, how can we find our place of rest? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੰਤੁ ਨ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਈ ਭਠਿ ਨਗਰ ਸੇ ਗ੍ਰਾਮ ॥ jit ghar har kant na pragattee bhatth nagar se graam | Those homes, those hearts, in which the Husband Lord is not manifest-those towns and villages are like burning furnaces. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸ੍ਰਬ ਸੀਗਾਰ ਤੰਬੋਲ ਰਸ ਸਣੁ ਦੇਹੀ ਸਭ ਖਾਮ ॥ srab seegaar tanbol ras san dehee sabh khaam | All decorations, the chewing of betel to sweeten the breath, and the body itself, are all useless and vain. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕੰਤ ਵਿਹੂਣੀਆ ਮੀਤ ਸਜਣ ਸਭਿ ਜਾਮ ॥ prabh suaamee kant vihooneea meet sajan sabh jaam | Without God, our Husband, our Lord and Master, all friends and companions are like the Messenger of Death. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਬੇਨੰਤੀਆ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੀਜੈ ਨਾਮੁ ॥ naanak kee benanteea kar kirapaa deejai naam | This is Nanak’s prayer: “Please show Your Mercy, and bestow Your Name. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਧਾਮ ॥੧॥ har melahu suaamee sang prabh jis kaa nihachal dhaam |1| O my Lord and Master, please unite me with Yourself, O God, in the Eternal Mansion of Your Presence”. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚੇਤਿ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਅਰਾਧੀਐ ਹੋਵੈ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਘਣਾ ॥ chet govind araadheeai hovai anand ghanaa | In the month of Chayt, by meditating on the Lord of the Universe, a deep and profound joy arises. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਭਣਾ ॥ sant janaa mil paaeeai rasanaa naam bhanaa | Meeting with the humble Saints, the Lord is found, as we chant His Name with our tongues. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਏ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਗਣਾ ॥ jin paaeaa prabh aapanaa aae tiseh ganaa | Those who have found God-blessed is their coming into this world. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਜੀਵਣਾ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਜਣਾ ॥ eik khin tis bin jeevanaa birathaa janam janaa | Those who live without Him, for even an instant-their lives are rendered useless. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਪੂਰਿਆ ਰਵਿਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਣਾ ॥ jal thal maheeal pooriaa raviaa vich vanaa | The Lord is totally pervading the water, the land, and all space. He is contained in the forests as well. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਕਿਤੜਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਗਣਾ ॥ so prabh chit na aavee kitarraa dukh ganaa | Those who do not remember God-how much pain must they suffer! - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਨੀ ਰਾਵਿਆ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤਿੰਨਾ ਭਾਗੁ ਮਣਾ ॥ jinee raaviaa so prabhoo tinaa bhaag manaa | Those who dwell upon their God have great good fortune. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੰਉ ਮਨੁ ਲੋਚਦਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਿਆਸ ਮਨਾ ॥ har darasan knau man lochadaa naanak piaas manaa | My mind yearns for the Blessed Vision of the Lord’s Darshan. O Nanak, my mind is so thirsty! - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚੇਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਪਾਇ ਲਗਾ ॥੨॥ chet milaae so prabhoo tis kai paae lagaa |2| I touch the feet of one who unites me with God in the month of Chayt. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਵੈਸਾਖਿ ਧੀਰਨਿ ਕਿਉ ਵਾਢੀਆ ਜਿਨਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਬਿਛੋਹੁ ॥ vaisaakh dheeran kiau vaadteea jinaa prem bichhohu | In the month of Vaisaakh, how can the bride be patient? She is separated from her Beloved. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਸਾਜਨੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਕੈ ਲਗੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਧੋਹੁ ॥ har saajan purakh visaar kai lagee maaeaa dhohu | She has forgotten the Lord, her Life-companion, her Master; she has become attached to Maya, the deceitful one. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਧਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਅਵਿਨਾਸੀ ਓਹੁ ॥ putr kalatr na sang dhanaa har avinaasee ohu | Neither son, nor spouse, nor wealth shall go along with you-only the Eternal Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਲਚਿ ਪਲਚਿ ਸਗਲੀ ਮੁਈ ਝੂਠੈ ਧੰਧੈ ਮੋਹੁ ॥ palach palach sagalee muee jhootthai dhandhai mohu | Entangled and enmeshed in the love of false occupations, the whole world is perishing. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਇਕਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਗੈ ਲਈਅਹਿ ਖੋਹਿ ॥ eikas har ke naam bin agai leeeh khohi | Without the Naam, the Name of the One Lord, they lose their lives in the hereafter. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਯੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਵਿਗੁਚਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ day visaar viguchanaa prabh bin avar na koe | Forgetting the Merciful Lord, they are ruined. Without God, there is no other at all. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਚਰਣੀ ਜੋ ਲਗੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸੋਇ ॥ preetam charanee jo lage tin kee niramal soe | Pure is the reputation of those who are attached to the Feet of the Beloved Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
