ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਕੰਢੈ ਚਾੜੇ ॥ andh koop te kandtai chaarre | You pulled me out of the deep, dark well onto the dry ground. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦਾਸ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੇ ॥ kar kirapaa daas nadar nihaale | Showering Your Mercy, You blessed Your servant with Your Glance of Grace. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਕਹਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥ gun gaaveh pooran abinaasee keh sun tott na aavaniaa |4| I sing the Glorious Praises of the Perfect, Immortal Lord. By speaking and hearing these Praises, they are not used up. ||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਐਥੈ ਓਥੈ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ॥ aithai othai toonhai rakhavaalaa | Here and hereafter, You are our Protector. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਾਤ ਗਰਭ ਮਹਿ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਪਾਲਾ ॥ maat garabh meh tum hee paalaa | In the womb of the mother, You cherish and nurture the baby. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਾਇਆ ਅਗਨਿ ਨ ਪੋਹੈ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ maaeaa agan na pohai tin kau rang rate gun gaavaniaa |5| The fire of Maya does not affect those who are imbued with the Lord’s Love; they sing His Glorious Praises. ||5|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਆਖਿ ਸਮਾਲੀ ॥ kiaa gun tere aakh samaalee | What Praises of Yours can I chant and contemplate? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੀ ॥ man tan antar tudh nadar nihaalee | Deep within my mind and body, I behold Your Presence. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਮੀਤੁ ਸਾਜਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਣਿਆ ॥੬॥ toon meraa meet saajan meraa suaamee tudh bin avar na jaananiaa |6| You are my Friend and Companion, my Lord and Master. Without You, I do not know any other at all. ||6|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਇਆ ਸਹਾਈ ॥ jis kau toon prabh bheaa sahaaee | O God, that one, unto whom You have given shelter, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਸੁ ਤਤੀ ਵਾਉ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਕਾਈ ॥ tis tatee vaau na lagai kaaee | is not touched by the hot winds. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੂ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਰਣਿ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਜਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ too saahib saran sukhadaataa satasangat jap pragattaavaniaa |7| O my Lord and Master, You are my Sanctuary, the Giver of peace. Chanting, meditating on You in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, You are revealed. ||7|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੂੰ ਊਚ ਅਥਾਹੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਅਮੋਲਾ ॥ toon aooch athaahu apaar amolaa | You are Exalted, Unfathomable, Infinite and Invaluable. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੂੰ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਦਾਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਗੋਲਾ ॥ toon saachaa saahib daas teraa golaa | You are my True Lord and Master. I am Your servant and slave. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੂੰ ਮੀਰਾ ਸਾਚੀ ਠਕੁਰਾਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੩॥੩੭॥ toon meeraa saachee tthakuraaee naanak bal bal jaavaniaa |8|3|37| You are the King, Your Sovereign Rule is True. Nanak is a sacrifice, a sacrifice to You. ||8||3||37|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਘਰੁ ੨ ॥ maajh mahalaa 5 ghar 2 | Maajh, Fifth Mehl, Second House: - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਦਯੁ ਸਮਾਲੀਐ ॥ nit nit day samaaleeai | Continually, continuously, remember the Merciful Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਮਨਹੁ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਐ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ mool na manahu visaareeai | rahaau | Never forget Him from your mind. ||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤਾ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ santaa sangat paaeeai | Join the Society of the Saints, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਤੁ ਜਮ ਕੈ ਪੰਥਿ ਨ ਜਾਈਐ ॥ jit jam kai panth na jaaeeai | and you shall not have to go down the path of Death. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੋਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੁਲਹਿ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਗਾਲਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ tosaa har kaa naam lai tere kuleh na laagai gaal jeeo |1| Take the Provisions of the Lord’s Name with you, and no stain shall attach itself to your family. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਸਿਮਰੰਦੇ ਸਾਂਈਐ ॥ jo simarande saaneeai | Those who meditate on the Master - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਰਕਿ ਨ ਸੇਈ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ narak na seee paaeeai | shall not be thrown down into hell. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਤੀ ਵਾਉ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਜਿਨ ਮਨਿ ਵੁਠਾ ਆਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥ tatee vaau na lagee jin man vutthaa aae jeeo |2| Even the hot winds shall not touch them. The Lord has come to dwell within their minds. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੇਈ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸੋਹਣੇ ॥ seee sundar sohane | They alone are beautiful and attractive, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜਿਨ ਬੈਹਣੇ ॥ saadhasang jin baihane | who abide in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਸੰਜਿਆ ਸੇਈ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਅਪਾਰ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥ har dhan jinee sanjiaa seee ganbheer apaar jeeo |3| Those who have gathered in the wealth of the Lord’s Name-they alone are deep and thoughtful and vast. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਅਮਿਉ ਰਸਾਇਣੁ ਪੀਵੀਐ ॥ har amiau rasaaein peeveeai | Drink in the Ambrosial Essence of the Name, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੁਹਿ ਡਿਠੈ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਜੀਵੀਐ ॥ muhi dditthai jan kai jeeveeai | and live by beholding the face of the Lord’s servant. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਾਰਜ ਸਭਿ ਸਵਾਰਿ ਲੈ ਨਿਤ ਪੂਜਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਪਾਵ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥ kaaraj sabh savaar lai nit poojahu gur ke paav jeeo |4| Let all your affairs be resolved, by continually worshipping the Feet of the Guru. ||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਤਾ ਆਪਣਾ ॥ jo har keetaa aapanaa | He alone meditates on the Lord of the World, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਨਹਿ ਗੁਸਾਈ ਜਾਪਣਾ ॥ tineh gusaaee jaapanaa | Whom the Lord has made His Own. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋ ਸੂਰਾ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ਸੋ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਜਿਸ ਦੈ ਭਾਗੁ ਜੀਉ ॥੫॥ so sooraa paradhaan so masatak jis dai bhaag jeeo |5| He alone is a warrior, and he alone is the chosen one, upon whose forehead good destiny is recorded. ||5|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨ ਮੰਧੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਵਗਾਹੀਆ ॥ man mandhe prabh avagaaheea | Within my mind, I meditate on God. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਏਹਿ ਰਸ ਭੋਗਣ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੀਆ ॥ ehi ras bhogan paatisaaheea | For me, this is like the enjoyment of princely pleasures. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੰਦਾ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਉਪਜਿਓ ਤਰੇ ਸਚੀ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਾਗਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੬॥ mandaa mool na upajio tare sachee kaarai laag jeeo |6| Evil does not well up within me, since I am saved, and dedicated to truthful actions. ||6|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਤਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥ karataa man vasaaeaa | I have enshrined the Creator within my mind; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਨਮੈ ਕਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ janamai kaa fal paaeaa | I have obtained the fruits of life’s rewards. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੰਦਾ ਕੰਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਥਿਰੁ ਹੋਆ ਸੋਹਾਗੁ ਜੀਉ ॥੭॥ man bhaavandaa kant har teraa thir hoaa sohaag jeeo |7| If your Husband Lord is pleasing to your mind, then your married life shall be eternal. ||7|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਟਲ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ attal padaarath paaeaa | I have obtained everlasting wealth; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਇਆ ॥ bhai bhanjan kee saranaaeaa | I have found the Sanctuary of the Dispeller of fear. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਲਾਇ ਅੰਚਲਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾਰਿਅਨੁ ਜਿਤਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਪਾਰ ਜੀਉ ॥੮॥੪॥੩੮॥ laae anchal naanak taarian jitaa janam apaar jeeo |8|4|38| Grasping hold of the hem of the Lord’s robe, Nanak is saved. He has won the incomparable life. ||8||4||38|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਜਪੇ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ har jap jape man dheere |1| rahaau | Chanting and meditating on the Lord, the mind is held steady. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਗੁਰਦੇਉ ਮਿਟਿ ਗਏ ਭੈ ਦੂਰੇ ॥੧॥ simar simar guradeo mitt ge bhai doore |1| Meditating, meditating in remembrance on the Divine Guru, one’s fears are erased and dispelled. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਰਨਿ ਆਵੈ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੀ ਤਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਕਾਹੇ ਝੂਰੇ ॥੨॥ saran aavai paarabraham kee taa fir kaahe jhoore |2| Entering the Sanctuary of the Supreme Lord God, how could anyone feel grief any longer? ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
