ਤੂੰ ਵਡਾ ਤੂੰ ਊਚੋ ਊਚਾ ॥ toon vaddaa toon aoocho aoochaa | You are so Great! You are the Highest of the High! - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਅਤਿ ਮੂਚੋ ਮੂਚਾ ॥ toon beant at moocho moochaa | You are Infinite, You are Everything! - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਤੇਰੈ ਵੰਞਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਦਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧॥੩੫॥ hau kurabaanee terai vanyaa naanak daas dasaavaniaa |8|1|35| I am a sacrifice to You. Nanak is the slave of Your slaves. ||8||1||35|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਕਉਣੁ ਸੁ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਉਣੁ ਸੁ ਬਕਤਾ ॥ kaun su giaanee kaun su bakataa | Who is a spiritual teacher, and who is a preacher? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਉਣੁ ਸੁ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਕਉਣੁ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਕਉਣੁ ਸੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ kaun su girahee kaun udaasee kaun su keemat paae jeeo |1| Who is a house-holder, and who is a renunciate? Who can estimate the Lord’s Value? ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਿਨਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਬਾਧਾ ਕਿਨਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਛੂਟਾ ॥ kin bidh baadhaa kin bidh chhoottaa | How is one bound, and how is one freed of his bonds? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਿਨਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਵਣੁ ਤੂਟਾ ॥ kin bidh aavan jaavan toottaa | How can one escape from the cycle of coming and going in reincarnation? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਉਣ ਕਰਮ ਕਉਣ ਨਿਹਕਰਮਾ ਕਉਣੁ ਸੁ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥ kaun karam kaun nihakaramaa kaun su kahai kahaae jeeo |2| Who is subject to karma, and who is beyond karma? Who chants the Name, and inspires others to chant it? ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਉਣੁ ਸੁ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਕਉਣੁ ਸੁ ਦੁਖੀਆ ॥ kaun su sukheea kaun su dukheea | Who is happy, and who is sad? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਉਣੁ ਸੁ ਸਨਮੁਖੁ ਕਉਣੁ ਵੇਮੁਖੀਆ ॥ kaun su sanamukh kaun vemukheea | Who, as sunmukh, turns toward the Guru, and who, as vaymukh, turns away from the Guru? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਿਨਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਕਿਨਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਬਿਛੁਰੈ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਉਣੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥ kin bidh mileeai kin bidh bichhurai ih bidh kaun pragattaae jeeo |3| How can one meet the Lord? How is one separated from Him? Who can reveal the way to me? ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਉਣੁ ਸੁ ਅਖਰੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਧਾਵਤੁ ਰਹਤਾ ॥ kaun su akhar jit dhaavat rahataa | What is that Word, by which the wandering mind can be restrained? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਉਣੁ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਮ ਸਹਤਾ ॥ kaun upades jit dukh sukh sam sahataa | What are those teachings, by which we may endure pain and pleasure alike? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਉਣੁ ਸੁ ਚਾਲ ਜਿਤੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਕਿਨਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥ kaun su chaal jit paarabraham dhiaae kin bidh keeratan gaae jeeo |4| What is that lifestyle, by which we may come to meditate on the Supreme Lord? How may we sing the Kirtan of His Praises? ||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੁਗਤਾ ॥ guramukh mukataa guramukh jugataa | The Gurmukh is liberated, and the Gurmukh is linked. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬਕਤਾ ॥ guramukh giaanee guramukh bakataa | The Gurmukh is the spiritual teacher, and the Gurmukh is the preacher. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਧੰਨੁ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੫॥ dhan girahee udaasee guramukh guramukh keemat paae jeeo |5| Blessed is the Gurmukh, the householder and the renunciate. The Gurmukh knows the Lord’s Value. ||5|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਬਾਧਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਛੂਟਾ ॥ haumai baadhaa guramukh chhoottaa | Egotism is bondage; as Gurmukh, one is emancipated. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਵਣੁ ਤੂਟਾ ॥ guramukh aavan jaavan toottaa | The Gurmukh escapes the cycle of coming and going in reincarnation. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਮ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਹਕਰਮਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਸੁਭਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੬॥ guramukh karam guramukh nihakaramaa guramukh kare su subhaae jeeo |6| The Gurmukh performs actions of good karma, and the Gurmukh is beyond karma. Whatever the Gurmukh does, is done in good faith. ||6|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਦੁਖੀਆ ॥ guramukh sukheea manamukh dukheea | The Gurmukh is happy, while the self-willed manmukh is sad. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਨਮੁਖੁ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਮੁਖੀਆ ॥ guramukh sanamukh manamukh vemukheea | The Gurmukh turns toward the Guru, and the self-willed manmukh turns away from the Guru. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਛੁਰੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੭॥ guramukh mileeai manamukh vichhurai guramukh bidh pragattaae jeeo |7| The Gurmukh is united with the Lord, while the manmukh is separated from Him. The Gurmukh reveals the way. ||7|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਖਰੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਧਾਵਤੁ ਰਹਤਾ ॥ guramukh akhar jit dhaavat rahataa | The Guru’s Instruction is the Word, by which the wandering mind is restrained. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਮ ਸਹਤਾ ॥ guramukh upades dukh sukh sam sahataa | Through the Guru’s Teachings, we can endure pain and pleasure alike. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਚਾਲ ਜਿਤੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੮॥ guramukh chaal jit paarabraham dhiaae guramukh keeratan gaae jeeo |8| To live as Gurmukh is the lifestyle by which we come to meditate on the Supreme Lord. The Gurmukh sings the Kirtan of His Praises. ||8|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਗਲੀ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਈ ਆਪੇ ॥ sagalee banat banaaee aape | The Lord Himself created the entire creation. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਥਾਪੇ ॥ aape kare karaae thaape | He Himself acts, and causes others to act. He Himself establishes. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਇਕਸੁ ਤੇ ਹੋਇਓ ਅਨੰਤਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕਸੁ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੯॥੨॥੩੬॥ eikas te hoeo anantaa naanak ekas maeh samaae jeeo |9|2|36| From oneness, He has brought forth the countless multitudes. O Nanak, they shall merge into the One once again. ||9||2||36|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਤਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਾੜਾ ॥ prabh abinaasee taa kiaa kaarraa | God is Eternal and Imperishable, so why should anyone be anxious? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਭਗਵੰਤਾ ਤਾ ਜਨੁ ਖਰਾ ਸੁਖਾਲਾ ॥ har bhagavantaa taa jan kharaa sukhaalaa | The Lord is Wealthy and Prosperous, so His humble servant should feel totally secure. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਮਾਨ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ jeea praan maan sukhadaataa toon kareh soee sukh paavaniaa |1| O Giver of peace of the soul, of life, of honor-as You ordain, I obtain peace. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਭਾਵਣਿਆ ॥ hau vaaree jeeo vaaree guramukh man tan bhaavaniaa | I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to that Gurmukh whose mind and body are pleased with You. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਰਬਤੁ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਓਲਾ ਤੁਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਵੈ ਨ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ toon meraa parabat toon meraa olaa tum sang lavai na laavaniaa |1| rahaau | You are my mountain, You are my shelter and shield. No one can rival You. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਮੀਠਾ ॥ teraa keetaa jis laagai meetthaa | That person, unto whom Your actions seem sweet, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਤਿਨਿ ਜਨਿ ਡੀਠਾ ॥ ghatt ghatt paarabraham tin jan ddeetthaa | comes to see the Supreme Lord God in each and every heart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਥਾਨਿ ਥਨੰਤਰਿ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਇਕੋ ਇਕੁ ਵਰਤਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥ thaan thanantar toonhai toonhai iko ik varataavaniaa |2| In all places and interspaces, You exist. You are the One and Only Lord, pervading everywhere. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਗਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਤੂੰ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥ sagal manorath toon devanahaaraa | You are the Fulfiller of all the mind’s desires. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਗਤੀ ਭਾਇ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥ bhagatee bhaae bhare bhanddaaraa | Your treasures are overflowing with love and devotion. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਸੇਈ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ deaa dhaar raakhe tudh seee poorai karam samaavaniaa |3| Showering Your Mercy, You protect those who, through perfect destiny, merge into You. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
