ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਮਰੈ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥ guramukh jeevai marai paravaan | The Gurmukhs are celebrated in life and death. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਰਜਾ ਨ ਛੀਜੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥ aarajaa na chheejai sabad pachhaan | Their lives are not wasted; they realize the Word of the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਖਾਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥ guramukh marai na kaal na khaae guramukh sach samaavaniaa |2| The Gurmukhs do not die; they are not consumed by death. The Gurmukhs are absorbed in the True Lord. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਏ ॥ guramukh har dar sobhaa paae | The Gurmukhs are honored in the Court of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥ guramukh vichahu aap gavaae | The Gurmukhs eradicate selfishness and conceit from within. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਕੁਲ ਸਗਲੇ ਤਾਰੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਵਾਰਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ aap tarai kul sagale taare guramukh janam savaaraniaa |3| They save themselves, and save all their families and ancestors as well. The Gurmukhs redeem their lives. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਸਰੀਰਿ ॥ guramukh dukh kade na lagai sareer | The Gurmukhs never suffer bodily pain. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਪੀਰ ॥ guramukh haumai chookai peer | The Gurmukhs have the pain of egotism taken away. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥ guramukh man niramal fir mail na laagai guramukh sehaj samaavaniaa |4| The minds of the Gurmukhs are immaculate and pure; no filth ever sticks to them again. The Gurmukhs merge in celestial peace. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ guramukh naam milai vaddiaaee | The Gurmukhs obtain the Greatness of the Naam. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਈ ॥ guramukh gun gaavai sobhaa paaee | The Gurmukhs sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and obtain honor. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ sadaa anand rahai din raatee guramukh sabad karaavaniaa |5| They remain in bliss forever, day and night. The Gurmukhs practice the Word of the Shabad. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਰਾਤਾ ॥ guramukh anadin sabade raataa | The Gurmukhs are attuned to the Shabad, night and day. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਹੈ ਜਾਤਾ ॥ guramukh jug chaare hai jaataa | The Gurmukhs are known throughout the four ages. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥ guramukh gun gaavai sadaa niramal sabade bhagat karaavaniaa |6| The Gurmukhs always sing the Glorious Praises of the Immaculate Lord. Through the Shabad, they practice devotional worship. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਅੰਧ ਅੰਧਾਰਾ ॥ baajh guroo hai andh andhaaraa | Without the Guru, there is only pitch-black darkness. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ਗਰਠੇ ਕਰਹਿ ਪੁਕਾਰਾ ॥ jamakaal garatthe kareh pukaaraa | Seized by the Messenger of Death, people cry out and scream. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰੋਗੀ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕੇ ਕੀੜੇ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮਹਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ anadin rogee bisattaa ke keerre bisattaa meh dukh paavaniaa |7| Night and day, they are diseased, like maggots in manure, and in manure they endure agony. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ॥ guramukh aape kare karaae | The Gurmukhs know that the Lord alone acts, and causes others to act. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵੁਠਾ ਆਪਿ ਆਏ ॥ guramukh hiradai vutthaa aap aae | In the hearts of the Gurmukhs, the Lord Himself comes to dwell. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੨੫॥੨੬॥ naanak naam milai vaddiaaee poore gur te paavaniaa |8|25|26| O Nanak, through the Naam, greatness is obtained. It is received from the Perfect Guru. ||8||25||26|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਏਕਾ ਜੋਤਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਹੈ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥ ekaa jot jot hai sareeraa | The One Light is the light of all bodies. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਬਦਿ ਦਿਖਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥ sabad dikhaae satigur pooraa | The Perfect True Guru reveals it through the Word of the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਫਰਕੁ ਕੀਤੋਨੁ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ aape farak keeton ghatt antar aape banat banaavaniaa |1| He Himself instills the sense of separation within our hearts; He Himself created the Creation. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥ hau vaaree jeeo vaaree har sache ke gun gaavaniaa | I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who sing the Glorious Praises of the True Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੋ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ baajh guroo ko sehaj na paae guramukh sehaj samaavaniaa |1| rahaau | Without the Guru, no one obtains intuitive wisdom; the Gurmukh is absorbed in intuitive peace. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਆਪੇ ਜਗੁ ਮੋਹਹਿ ॥ toon aape soheh aape jag moheh | You Yourself are Beautiful, and You Yourself entice the world. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰੀ ਜਗਤੁ ਪਰੋਵਹਿ ॥ toon aape nadaree jagat paroveh | You Yourself, by Your Kind Mercy, weave the thread of the world. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਕਰਤੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥ toon aape dukh sukh deveh karate guramukh har dekhaavaniaa |2| You Yourself bestow pain and pleasure, O Creator. The Lord reveals Himself to the Gurmukh. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ॥ aape karataa kare karaae | The Creator Himself acts, and causes others to act. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥ aape sabad gur man vasaae | Through Him, the Word of the Guru’s Shabad is enshrined within the mind. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਬਦੇ ਉਪਜੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ sabade upajai amrit baanee guramukh aakh sunaavaniaa |3| The Ambrosial Word of the Guru’s Bani emanates from the Word of the Shabad. The Gurmukh speaks it and hears it. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਭੁਗਤਾ ॥ aape karataa aape bhugataa | He Himself is the Creator, and He Himself is the Enjoyer. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜੇ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਮੁਕਤਾ ॥ bandhan torre sadaa hai mukataa | One who breaks out of bondage is liberated forever. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਦਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਆਪੇ ਹੈ ਸਚਾ ਆਪੇ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥ sadaa mukat aape hai sachaa aape alakh lakhaavaniaa |4| The True Lord is liberated forever. The Unseen Lord causes Himself to be seen. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਆਪੇ ਛਾਇਆ ॥ aape maaeaa aape chhaaeaa | He Himself is Maya, and He Himself is the Illusion. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥ aape mohu sabh jagat upaaeaa | He Himself has generated emotional attachment throughout the entire universe. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਆਪੇ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ aape gunadaataa gun gaavai aape aakh sunaavaniaa |5| He Himself is the Giver of Virtue; He Himself sings the Lord’s Glorious Praises. He chants them and causes them to be heard. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ॥ aape kare karaae aape | He Himself acts, and causes others to act. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ਆਪੇ ॥ aape thaap uthaape aape | He Himself establishes and disestablishes. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥ tujh te baahar kachhoo na hovai toon aape kaarai laavaniaa |6| Without You, nothing can be done. You Yourself have engaged all in their tasks. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਆਪਿ ਜੀਵਾਏ ॥ aape maare aap jeevaae | He Himself kills, and He Himself revives. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ aape mele mel milaae | He Himself unites us, and unites us in Union with Himself. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ sevaa te sadaa sukh paaeaa guramukh sehaj samaavaniaa |7| Through selfless service, eternal peace is obtained. The Gurmukh is absorbed in intuitive peace. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
