ਮਨਸਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥ manasaa maar sach samaanee | Subduing their desires, they merge with the True One; - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਨਿ ਮਨਿ ਡੀਠੀ ਸਭ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ ein man ddeetthee sabh aavan jaanee | they see in their minds that everyone comes and goes in reincarnation. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਸਦਾ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ satigur seve sadaa man nihachal nij ghar vaasaa paavaniaa |3| Serving the True Guru, they become stable forever, and they obtain their dwelling in the home of the self. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥ gur kai sabad ridai dikhaaeaa | Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, the Lord is seen within one’s own heart. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇਆ ॥ maaeaa mohu sabad jalaaeaa | Through the Shabad, I have burned my emotional attachment to Maya. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੋ ਸਚਾ ਵੇਖਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥ sacho sachaa vekh saalaahee gurasabadee sach paavaniaa |4| I gaze upon the Truest of the True, and I praise Him. Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, I obtain the True One. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੋ ਸਚਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਸਚੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥ jo sach raate tin sachee liv laagee | Those who are attuned to Truth are blessed with the Love of the True One. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਹਿ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥ har naam samaaleh se vaddabhaagee | Those who praise the Lord’s Name are very fortunate. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ sachai sabad aap milaae satasangat sach gun gaavaniaa |5| Through the Word of His Shabad, the True One blends with Himself, those who join the True Congregation and sing the Glorious Praises of the True One. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਲੇਖਾ ਪੜੀਐ ਜੇ ਲੇਖੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਹੋਵੈ ॥ lekhaa parreeai je lekhe vich hovai | We could read the account of the Lord, if He were in any account. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਓਹੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਧਿ ਹੋਵੈ ॥ ohu agam agochar sabad sudh hovai | He is Inaccessible and Incomprehensible; through the Shabad, understanding is obtained. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਚ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਹੋਰੁ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥ anadin sach sabad saalaahee hor koe na keemat paavaniaa |6| Night and day, praise the True Word of the Shabad. There is no other way to know His Worth. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਥਾਕੇ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਆਈ ॥ parr parr thaake saant na aaee | People read and recite until they grow weary, but they do not find peace. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਾਲੇ ਸੁਧਿ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥ trisanaa jaale sudh na kaaee | Consumed by desire, they have no understanding at all. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਖੁ ਬਿਹਾਝਹਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਸੇ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ bikh bihaajheh bikh moh piaase koorr bol bikh khaavaniaa |7| They purchase poison, and they are thirsty with their fascination for poison. Telling lies, they eat poison. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣਾ ॥ gur parasaadee eko jaanaa | By Guru’s Grace, I know the One. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੂਜਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਨੁ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਣਾ ॥ doojaa maar man sach samaanaa | Subduing my sense of duality, my mind is absorbed into the True One. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧੭॥੧੮॥ naanak eko naam varatai man antar gur parasaadee paavaniaa |8|17|18| O Nanak, the One Name is pervading deep within my mind; by Guru’s Grace, I receive it. ||8||17||18|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਵਰਨ ਰੂਪ ਵਰਤਹਿ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੇ ॥ varan roop varateh sabh tere | In all colors and forms, You are pervading. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਫੇਰ ਪਵਹਿ ਘਣੇਰੇ ॥ mar mar jameh fer paveh ghanere | People die over and over again; they are re-born, and make their rounds on the wheel of reincarnation. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੂੰ ਏਕੋ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ toon eko nihachal agam apaaraa guramatee boojh bujhaavaniaa |1| You alone are Eternal and Unchanging, Inaccessible and Infinite. Through the Guru’s Teachings, understanding is imparted. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥ hau vaaree jeeo vaaree raam naam man vasaavaniaa | I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who enshrine the Lord’s Name in their minds. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤਿਸੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਰੇਖਿਆ ਵਰਨੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ tis roop na rekhiaa varan na koee guramatee aap bujhaavaniaa |1| rahaau | The Lord has no form, features or color. Through the Guru’s Teachings, He inspires us to understand Him. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਭ ਏਕਾ ਜੋਤਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ॥ sabh ekaa jot jaanai je koee | The One Light is all-pervading; only a few know this. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਈ ॥ satigur seviai paragatt hoee | Serving the True Guru, this is revealed. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਪਤੁ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਥਾਈ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥ gupat paragatt varatai sabh thaaee jotee jot milaavaniaa |2| In the hidden and in the obvious, He is pervading all places. Our light merges into the Light. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਜਲੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥ tisanaa agan jalai sansaaraa | The world is burning in the fire of desire, - Guru Amardas Ji
ਲੋਭੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥ lobh abhimaan bahut ahankaaraa | in greed, arrogance and excessive ego. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮੈ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਏ ਅਪਣੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ mar mar janamai pat gavaae apanee birathaa janam gavaavaniaa |3| People die over and over again; they are re-born, and lose their honor. They waste away their lives in vain. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ॥ gur kaa sabad ko viralaa boojhai | Those who understand the Word of the Guru’s Shabad are very rare. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥ aap maare taa tribhavan soojhai | Those who subdue their egotism, come to know the three worlds. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਫਿਰਿ ਓਹੁ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਮਰਣਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥ fir ohu marai na maranaa hovai sahaje sach samaavaniaa |4| Then, they die, never to die again. They are intuitively absorbed in the True One. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਨ ਲਾਏ ॥ maaeaa meh fir chit na laae | They do not focus their consciousness on Maya again. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਏ ॥ gur kai sabad sad rahai samaae | They remain absorbed forever in the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਸਭ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ sach salaahe sabh ghatt antar sacho sach suhaavaniaa |5| They praise the True One, who is contained deep within all hearts. They are blessed and exalted by the Truest of the True. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰੇ ॥ sach saalaahee sadaa hajoore | Praise the True One, who is Ever-present. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰੇ ॥ gur kai sabad rahiaa bharapoore | Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, He is pervading everywhere. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਵੈ ਸਚੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥ gur parasaadee sach nadaree aavai sache hee sukh paavaniaa |6| By Guru’s Grace, we come to behold the True One; from the True One, peace is obtained. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੁ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ sach man andar rahiaa samaae | The True One permeates and pervades the mind within. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਆਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ sadaa sach nihachal aavai na jaae | The True One is Eternal and Unchanging; He does not come and go in reincarnation. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੇ ਲਾਗੈ ਸੋ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ sache laagai so man niramal guramatee sach samaavaniaa |7| Those who are attached to the True One are immaculate and pure. Through the Guru’s Teachings, they merge in the True One. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥ sach saalaahee avar na koee | Praise the True One, and no other. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਤੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥ jit seviai sadaa sukh hoee | Serving Him, eternal peace is obtained. - Guru Amardas Ji
