ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤਹੁ ਅੰਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਸਖਾਈ ॥ har chetahu ant hoe sakhaaee | Think of the Lord, who shall be your Help and Support in the end. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਅਨਾਥੁ ਅਜੋਨੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ har agam agochar anaath ajonee satigur kai bhaae paavaniaa |1| The Lord is Inaccessible and Incomprehensible. He has no master, and He is not born. He is obtained through love of the True Guru. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਆਪੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਣਿਆ ॥ hau vaaree jeeo vaaree aap nivaaraniaa | I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who eliminate selfishness and conceit. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ aap gavaae taa har paae har siau sehaj samaavaniaa |1| rahaau | They eradicate selfishness and conceit, and then find the Lord; they are intuitively immersed in the Lord. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥ poorab likhiaa su karam kamaaeaa | According to their pre-ordained destiny, they act out their karma. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ satigur sev sadaa sukh paaeaa | Serving the True Guru, a lasting peace is found. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਭਾਗਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਬਦੈ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥ bin bhaagaa gur paaeeai naahee sabadai mel milaavaniaa |2| Without good fortune, the Guru is not found. Through the Word of the Shabad, they are united in the Lord’s Union. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਰਹੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੇ ॥ guramukh alipat rahai sansaare | The Gurmukhs remain unaffected in the midst of the world. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਤਕੀਐ ਨਾਮਿ ਅਧਾਰੇ ॥ gur kai takeeai naam adhaare | The Guru is their cushion, and the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is their Support. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੋਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪੇ ਖਪਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ guramukh jor kare kiaa tis no aape khap dukh paavaniaa |3| Who can oppress the Gurmukh? One who tries shall perish, writhing in pain. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਧੇ ਸੁਧਿ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥ manamukh andhe sudh na kaaee | The blind self-willed manmukhs have no understanding at all. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਤਮ ਘਾਤੀ ਹੈ ਜਗਤ ਕਸਾਈ ॥ aatam ghaatee hai jagat kasaaee | They are the assassins of the self, and the butchers of the world. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਰੁ ਉਠਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਜੂਰੀ ਭਾਰੁ ਪਹੁਚਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥ nindaa kar kar bahu bhaar utthaavai bin majooree bhaar pahuchaavaniaa |4| By continually slandering others, they carry a terrible load, and they carry the loads of others for nothing. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਵਾੜੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਾਲੀ ॥ eihu jag vaarree meraa prabh maalee | This world is a garden, and my Lord God is the Gardener. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਦਾ ਸਮਾਲੇ ਕੋ ਨਾਹੀ ਖਾਲੀ ॥ sadaa samaale ko naahee khaalee | He always takes care of it-nothing is exempt from His Care. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੇਹੀ ਵਾਸਨਾ ਪਾਏ ਤੇਹੀ ਵਰਤੈ ਵਾਸੂ ਵਾਸੁ ਜਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ jehee vaasanaa paae tehee varatai vaasoo vaas janaavaniaa |5| As is the fragrance which He bestows, so is the fragrant flower known. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਰੋਗੀ ਹੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥ manamukh rogee hai sansaaraa | The self-willed manmukhs are sick and diseased in the world. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਵਿਸਰਿਆ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ sukhadaataa visariaa agam apaaraa | They have forgotten the Giver of peace, the Unfathomable, the Infinite. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੁਖੀਏ ਨਿਤਿ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਬਿਲਲਾਦੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥ dukhee nit fireh bilalaade bin gur saant na paavaniaa |6| These miserable people wander endlessly, crying out in pain; without the Guru, they find no peace. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਤੇ ਸੋਈ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥ jin keete soee bidh jaanai | The One who created them, knows their condition. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥ aap kare taa hukam pachhaanai | And if He inspires them, then they realize the Hukam of His Command. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੇਹਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਏ ਤੇਹਾ ਵਰਤੈ ਆਪੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ jehaa andar paae tehaa varatai aape baahar paavaniaa |7| Whatever He places within them, that is what prevails, and so they outwardly appear. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਸਚੇ ਮੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥ tis baajhahu sache mai hor na koee | I know of no other except the True One. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਸੁ ਲਾਇ ਲਏ ਸੋ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਈ ॥ jis laae le so niramal hoee | Those, whom the Lord attaches to Himself, become pure. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਸੋ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧੪॥੧੫॥ naanak naam vasai ghatt antar jis devai so paavaniaa |8|14|15| O Nanak, the Naam, the Name of the Lord, abides deep within the heart of those, unto whom He has given it. ||8||14||15|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥ amrit naam man vasaae | Enshrining the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord, in the mind, - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥ haumai meraa sabh dukh gavaae | all the pains of egotism, selfishness and conceit are eliminated. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ amrit baanee sadaa salaahe amrit amrit paavaniaa |1| By continually praising the Ambrosial Bani of the Word, I obtain the Amrit, the Ambrosial Nectar. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥ hau vaaree jeeo vaaree amrit baanee man vasaavaniaa | I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who enshrine the Ambrosial Bani of the Word within their minds. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ amrit baanee man vasaae amrit naam dhiaavaniaa |1| rahaau | Enshrining the Ambrosial Bani in their minds, they meditate on the Ambrosial Naam. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਸਦਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਵੈਣੀ ॥ amrit bolai sadaa mukh vainee | Those who continually chant the Ambrosial Words of Nectar, - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਵੇਖੈ ਪਰਖੈ ਸਦਾ ਨੈਣੀ ॥ amrit vekhai parakhai sadaa nainee | See and behold this Amrit everywhere with their eyes. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਕਥਾ ਕਹੈ ਸਦਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਅਵਰਾ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਨਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥ amrit kathaa kahai sadaa din raatee avaraa aakh sunaavaniaa |2| They continually chant the Ambrosial Sermon day and night; chanting it, they cause others to hear it. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥ amrit rang rataa liv laae | Imbued with the Ambrosial Love of the Lord, they lovingly focus their attention on Him. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਏ ॥ amrit gur parasaadee paae | By Guru’s Grace, they receive this Amrit. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਬੋਲੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ amrit rasanaa bolai din raatee man tan amrit peeaavaniaa |3| They chant the Ambrosial Name with their tongues day and night; their minds and bodies are satisfied by this Amrit. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਜੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ so kichh karai ju chit na hoee | That which God does is beyond anyone’s consciousness; - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤਿਸ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮੇਟਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਈ ॥ tis daa hukam mett na sakai koee | no one can erase the Hukam of His Command. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਵਰਤੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥ hukame varatai amrit baanee hukame amrit peeaavaniaa |4| By His Command, the Ambrosial Bani of the Word prevails, and by His Command, we drink in the Amrit. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਜਬ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੇਰੇ ॥ ajab kam karate har kere | The actions of the Creator Lord are marvellous and wonderful. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਭੂਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਫੇਰੇ ॥ eihu man bhoolaa jaandaa fere | This mind is deluded, and goes around the wheel of reincarnation. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ amrit baanee siau chit laae amrit sabad vajaavaniaa |5| Those who focus their consciousness on the Ambrosial Bani of the Word, hear the vibrations of the Ambrosial Word of the Shabad. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
