ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਲਦੀ ਫਿਰੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਬਹੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥ anadin jaladee firai din raatee bin pir bahu dukh paavaniaa |2| Night and day, day and night, they burn. Without her Husband Lord, the soul-bride suffers in terrible pain. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੇਹੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਆਗੈ ਜਾਏ ॥ dehee jaat na aagai jaae | Her body and her status shall not go with her to the world hereafter. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਥੈ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਤਿਥੈ ਛੁਟੈ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥ jithai lekhaa mangeeai tithai chhuttai sach kamaae | Where she is called to answer for her account, there, she shall be emancipated only by true actions. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸੇ ਧਨਵੰਤੇ ਐਥੈ ਓਥੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ satigur sevan se dhanavante aithai othai naam samaavaniaa |3| Those who serve the True Guru shall prosper; here and hereafter, they are absorbed in the Naam. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਣਾਏ ॥ bhai bhaae seegaar banaae | She who adorns herself with the Love and the Fear of God, - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ gur parasaadee mehal ghar paae | by Guru’s Grace, obtains the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence as her home. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਵੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਜੀਠੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਬਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥ anadin sadaa ravai din raatee majeetthai rang banaavaniaa |4| Night and day, day and night, she constantly ravishes and enjoys her Beloved. She is dyed in the permanent color of His Love. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਭਨਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਵਸੈ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲੇ ॥ sabhanaa pir vasai sadaa naale | The Husband Lord abides with everyone, always; - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੇ ॥ gur parasaadee ko nadar nihaale | but how rare are those few who, by Guru’s Grace, obtain His Glance of Grace. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਤਿ ਊਚੋ ਊਚਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ meraa prabh at aoocho aoochaa kar kirapaa aap milaavaniaa |5| My God is the Highest of the High; granting His Grace, He merges us into Himself. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਸੁਤਾ ॥ maaeaa mohi ihu jag sutaa | This world is asleep in emotional attachment to Maya. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਵਿਗੁਤਾ ॥ naam visaar ant vigutaa | Forgetting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, it ultimately comes to ruin. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਸੁਤਾ ਸੋ ਜਾਗਾਏ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥ jis te sutaa so jaagaae guramat sojhee paavaniaa |6| The One who put it to sleep shall also awaken it. Through the Guru’s Teachings, understanding dawns. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਪਿਉ ਪੀਐ ਸੋ ਭਰਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥ apiau peeai so bharam gavaae | One who drinks in this Nectar, shall have his delusions dispelled. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਏ ॥ gur parasaad mukat gat paae | By Guru’s Grace, the state of liberation is attained. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਭਗਤੀ ਰਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਆਪੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ bhagatee rataa sadaa bairaagee aap maar milaavaniaa |7| One who is imbued with devotion to the Lord, remains always balanced and detached. Subduing selfishness and conceit, he is united with the Lord. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਧੰਧੈ ਲਾਏ ॥ aap upaae dhandhai laae | He Himself creates, and He Himself assigns us to our tasks. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਆਪਿ ਅਪੜਾਏ ॥ lakh chauraasee rijak aap aparraae | He Himself gives sustenance to the 8.4 million species of beings. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਸਚਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੪॥੫॥ naanak naam dhiaae sach raate jo tis bhaavai su kaar karaavaniaa |8|4|5| O Nanak, those who meditate on the Naam are atuned to Truth. They do that which is pleasing to His Will. ||8||4||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ maajh mahalaa 3 | Maajh, Third Mehl: - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਹੀਰਾ ਲਾਲੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ॥ andar heeraa laal banaaeaa | Diamonds and rubies are produced deep within the self. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਰਖਿ ਪਰਖਾਇਆ ॥ gur kai sabad parakh parakhaaeaa | They are assayed and valued through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਨ ਸਚੁ ਪਲੈ ਸਚੁ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਸਵਟੀ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ jin sach palai sach vakhaaneh sach kasavattee laavaniaa |1| Those who have gathered Truth, speak Truth; they apply the Touch-stone of Truth. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥ hau vaaree jeeo vaaree gur kee baanee man vasaavaniaa | I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who enshrine the Word of the Guru’s Bani within their minds. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਜਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ anjan maeh niranjan paaeaa jotee jot milaavaniaa |1| rahaau | In the midst of the darkness of the world, they obtain the Immaculate One, and their light merges into the Light. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਸੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਪਸਾਰਾ ॥ eis kaaeaa andar bahut pasaaraa | Within this body are countless vast vistas; - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਅਤਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ naam niranjan at agam apaaraa | the Immaculate Naam is totally Inaccessible and Infinite. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਪਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥ guramukh hovai soee paae aape bakhas milaavaniaa |2| He alone becomes Gurmukh and obtains it, whom the Lord forgives, and unites with Himself. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥ meraa tthaakur sach drirraae | My Lord and Master implants the Truth. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਚਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥ gur parasaadee sach chit laae | By Guru’s Grace, one’s consciousness is attached to the Truth. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭਨੀ ਥਾਈ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ sacho sach varatai sabhanee thaaee sache sach samaavaniaa |3| The Truest of the True is pervading everywhere; the true ones merge in Truth. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ਸਚੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥ veparavaahu sach meraa piaaraa | The True Carefree Lord is my Beloved. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਅਵਗਣ ਕਾਟਣਹਾਰਾ ॥ kilavikh avagan kaattanahaaraa | He cuts out our sinful mistakes and evil actions; - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥ prem preet sadaa dhiaaeeai bhai bhaae bhagat drirraavaniaa |4| with love and affection, meditate forever on Him. He implants the Fear of God and loving devotional worship within us. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਚੀ ਜੇ ਸਚੇ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ teree bhagat sachee je sache bhaavai | Devotional worship is True, if it pleases the True Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਨ ਪਛੋਤਾਵੈ ॥ aape dee na pachhotaavai | He Himself bestows it; He does not regret it later. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਏਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਬਦੇ ਮਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ sabhanaa jeea kaa eko daataa sabade maar jeevaavaniaa |5| He alone is the Giver of all beings. The Lord kills with the Word of His Shabad, and then revives. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਮੈ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ har tudh baajhahu mai koee naahee | Other than You, Lord, nothing is mine. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਤੁਧੈ ਸੇਵੀ ਤੈ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥ har tudhai sevee tai tudh saalaahee | I serve You, Lord, and I praise You. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੈਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਚੇ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਤੂੰ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥ aape mel laihu prabh saache poorai karam toon paavaniaa |6| You unite me with Yourself, O True God. Through perfect good karma You are obtained. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਤੁਧੈ ਜੇਹਾ ॥ mai hor na koee tudhai jehaa | For me, there is no other like You. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੇਰੀ ਨਦਰੀ ਸੀਝਸਿ ਦੇਹਾ ॥ teree nadaree seejhas dehaa | By Your Glance of Grace, my body is blessed and sanctified. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ anadin saar samaal har raakheh guramukh sehaj samaavaniaa |7| Night and day, the Lord takes care of us and protects us. The Gurmukhs are absorbed in intuitive peace and poise. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੁਧੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਮੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥ tudh jevadd mai hor na koee | For me, there is no other as Great as You. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਸਿਰਜੀ ਆਪੇ ਗੋਈ ॥ tudh aape sirajee aape goee | You Yourself create, and You Yourself destroy. - Guru Amardas Ji
