ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਏ ॥ lakh chauraaseeh jeea upaae | He created the 8.4 million species of beings. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ jis no nadar kare tis guroo milaae | Those, upon whom He casts His Glance of Grace, come to meet the Guru. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਕਾਟਿ ਸਦਾ ਜਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥ kilabikh kaatt sadaa jan niramal dar sachai naam suhaavaniaa |6| Shedding their sins, His servants are forever pure; at the True Court, they are beautified by the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਲੇਖਾ ਮਾਗੈ ਤਾ ਕਿਨਿ ਦੀਐ ॥ lekhaa maagai taa kin deeai | When they are called to settle their accounts, who will answer then? - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਫੁਨਿ ਦੂਐ ਤੀਐ ॥ sukh naahee fun dooai teeai | There shall be no peace then, from counting out by twos and threes. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ aape bakhas le prabh saachaa aape bakhas milaavaniaa |7| The True Lord God Himself forgives, and having forgiven, He unites them with Himself. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥ aap kare tai aap karaae | He Himself does, and He Himself causes all to be done. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ poore gur kai sabad milaae | Through the Shabad, the Word of the Perfect Guru, He is met. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੨॥੩॥ naanak naam milai vaddiaaee aape mel milaavaniaa |8|2|3| O Nanak, through the Naam, greatness is obtained. He Himself unites in His Union. ||8||2||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਇਕੋ ਆਪਿ ਫਿਰੈ ਪਰਛੰਨਾ ॥ eiko aap firai parachhanaa | The One Lord Himself moves about imperceptibly. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਖਾ ਤਾ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਭਿੰਨਾ ॥ guramukh vekhaa taa ihu man bhinaa | As Gurmukh, I see Him, and then this mind is pleased and uplifted. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਤਜਿ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਏਕੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ trisanaa taj sehaj sukh paaeaa eko man vasaavaniaa |1| Renouncing desire, I have found intuitive peace and poise; I have enshrined the One within my mind. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਇਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥ hau vaaree jeeo vaaree ikas siau chit laavaniaa | I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who focus their consciousness on the One. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਇਕਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ਸਚੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰੰਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ guramatee man ikat ghar aaeaa sachai rang rangaavaniaa |1| rahaau | Through the Guru’s Teachings, my mind has come to its only home; it is imbued with the True Color of the Lord’s Love. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਭੂਲਾ ਤੈਂ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥ eihu jag bhoolaa tain aap bhulaaeaa | This world is deluded; You Yourself have deluded it. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਕੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਲੋਭਾਇਆ ॥ eik visaar doojai lobhaaeaa | Forgetting the One, it has become engrossed in duality. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੂਲਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥ anadin sadaa firai bhram bhoolaa bin naavai dukh paavaniaa |2| Night and day, it wanders around endlessly, deluded by doubt; without the Name, it suffers in pain. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੋ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ॥ jo rang raate karam bidhaate | Those who are attuned to the Love of the Lord, the Architect of Destiny - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਜਾਤੇ ॥ gur sevaa te jug chaare jaate | by serving the Guru, they are known throughout the four ages. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਦੇਇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ jis no aap dee vaddiaaee har kai naam samaavaniaa |3| Those, upon whom the Lord bestows greatness, are absorbed in the Name of the Lord. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤੈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ maaeaa mohi har chetai naahee | Being in love with Maya, they do not think of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਮਪੁਰਿ ਬਧਾ ਦੁਖ ਸਹਾਹੀ ॥ jamapur badhaa dukh sahaahee | Bound and gagged in the City of Death, they suffer in terrible pain. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਨਾ ਬੋਲਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਪਾਪਿ ਪਚਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥ anaa bolaa kichh nadar na aavai manamukh paap pachaavaniaa |4| Blind and deaf, they see nothing at all; the self-willed manmukhs rot away in sin. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਕਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥ eik rang raate jo tudh aap liv laae | Those, whom You attach to Your Love, are attuned to Your Love. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਏ ॥ bhaae bhagat terai man bhaae | Through loving devotional worship, they become pleasing to Your Mind. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਸਭ ਇਛਾ ਆਪਿ ਪੁਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ satigur sevan sadaa sukhadaataa sabh ichhaa aap pujaavaniaa |5| They serve the True Guru, the Giver of eternal peace, and all their desires are fulfilled. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥ har jeeo teree sadaa saranaaee | O Dear Lord, I seek Your Sanctuary forever. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿਹਿ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ aape bakhasihi de vaddiaaee | You Yourself forgive us, and bless us with Glorious Greatness. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥ jamakaal tis nerr na aavai jo har har naam dhiaavaniaa |6| The Messenger of Death does not draw near those who meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੇ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਏ ॥ anadin raate jo har bhaae | Night and day, they are attuned to His Love; they are pleasing to the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ merai prabh mele mel milaae | My God merges with them, and unites them in Union. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਸਚੁ ਬੁਝਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ sadaa sadaa sache teree saranaaee toon aape sach bujhaavaniaa |7| Forever and ever, O True Lord, I seek the Protection of Your Sanctuary; You Yourself inspire us to understand the Truth. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਨ ਸਚੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਸੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ॥ jin sach jaataa se sach samaane | Those who know the Truth are absorbed in Truth. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਵਖਾਣੇ ॥ har gun gaaveh sach vakhaane | They sing the Lord’s Glorious Praises, and speak the Truth. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੩॥੪॥ naanak naam rate bairaagee nij ghar taarree laavaniaa |8|3|4| O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Naam remain unattached and balanced; in the home of the inner self, they are absorbed in the primal trance of deep meditation. ||8||3||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ maajh mahalaa 3 | Maajh, Third Mehl: - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਸੁ ਮੁਆ ਜਾਪੈ ॥ sabad marai su muaa jaapai | One who dies in the Word of the Shabad is truly dead. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਚਾਪੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਸੰਤਾਪੈ ॥ kaal na chaapai dukh na santaapai | Death does not crush him, and pain does not afflict him. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੋਤੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ jotee vich mil jot samaanee sun man sach samaavaniaa |1| His light merges and is absorbed into the Light, when he hears and merges in the Truth. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਇ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥ hau vaaree jeeo vaaree har kai naae sobhaa paavaniaa | I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to the Lord’s Name, which brings us to glory. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਚਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ satigur sev sach chit laaeaa guramatee sehaj samaavaniaa |1| rahaau | One who serves the True Guru, and focuses his consciousness on Truth, following the Guru’s Teachings, is absorbed in intuitive peace and poise. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕਾਇਆ ਕਚੀ ਕਚਾ ਚੀਰੁ ਹੰਢਾਏ ॥ kaaeaa kachee kachaa cheer handtaae | This human body is transitory, and transitory are the garments it wears. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥ doojai laagee mehal na paae | Attached to duality, no one attains the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence. - Guru Amardas Ji
