ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥ sevaa surat sabad chit laae | Center your awareness on seva-selfless service-and focus your consciousness on the Word of the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ haumai maar sadaa sukh paaeaa maaeaa mohu chukaavaniaa |1| Subduing your ego, you shall find a lasting peace, and your emotional attachment to Maya will be dispelled. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣਿਆ ॥ hau vaaree jeeo vaaree satigur kai balihaaraniaa | I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, I am totally devoted to the True Guru. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਹੋਆ ਜੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ guramatee paragaas hoaa jee anadin har gun gaavaniaa |1| rahaau | Through the Guru’s Teachings, the Divine Light has dawned; I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, night and day. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਖੋਜੇ ਤਾ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਏ ॥ tan man khoje taa naau paae | Search your body and mind, and find the Name. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਧਾਵਤੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ॥ dhaavat raakhai tthaak rahaae | Restrain your wandering mind, and keep it in check. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥ gur kee baanee anadin gaavai sahaje bhagat karaavaniaa |2| Night and day, sing the Songs of the Guru’s Bani; worship the Lord with intuitive devotion. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਸੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਅਸੰਖਾ ॥ eis kaaeaa andar vasat asankhaa | Within this body are countless objects. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਵੇਖਾ ॥ guramukh saach milai taa vekhaa | The Gurmukh attains Truth, and comes to see them. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਉ ਦਰਵਾਜੇ ਦਸਵੈ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ nau daravaaje dasavai mukataa anahad sabad vajaavaniaa |3| Beyond the nine gates, the Tenth Gate is found, and liberation is obtained. The Unstruck Melody of the Shabad vibrates. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੀ ਨਾਈ ॥ sachaa saahib sachee naaee | True is the Master, and True is His Name. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥ gur parasaadee man vasaaee | By Guru’s Grace, He comes to dwell within the mind. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥ anadin sadaa rahai rang raataa dar sachai sojhee paavaniaa |4| Night and day, remain attuned to the Lord’s Love forever, and you shall obtain understanding in the True Court. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ paap pun kee saar na jaanee | Those who do not understand the nature of sin and virtue - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੀ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣੀ ॥ doojai laagee bharam bhulaanee | are attached to duality; they wander around deluded. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧਾ ਮਗੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ agiaanee andhaa mag na jaanai fir fir aavan jaavaniaa |5| The ignorant and blind people do not know the way; they come and go in reincarnation over and over again. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ gur sevaa te sadaa sukh paaeaa | Serving the Guru, I have found eternal peace; - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਇਆ ॥ haumai meraa tthaak rahaaeaa | my ego has been silenced and subdued. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਸਾਖੀ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਾ ਬਜਰ ਕਪਾਟ ਖੁਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥ gur saakhee mittiaa andhiaaraa bajar kapaatt khulaavaniaa |6| Through the Guru’s Teachings, the darkness has been dispelled, and the heavy doors have been opened. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥ haumai maar man vasaaeaa | Subduing my ego, I have enshrined the Lord within my mind. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਸਦਾ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥ gur charanee sadaa chit laaeaa | I focus my consciousness on the Guru’s Feet forever. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ gur kirapaa te man tan niramal niramal naam dhiaavaniaa |7| By Guru’s Grace, my mind and body are immaculate and pure; I meditate on the Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੀਵਣੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਸਭੁ ਤੁਧੈ ਤਾਈ ॥ jeevan maranaa sabh tudhai taaee | From birth to death, everything is for You. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ jis bakhase tis de vaddiaaee | You bestow greatness upon those whom You have forgiven. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਸਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਸਵਾਰਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧॥੨॥ naanak naam dhiaae sadaa toon jaman maran savaaraniaa |8|1|2| O Nanak, meditating forever on the Naam, you shall be blessed in both birth and death. ||8||1||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ meraa prabh niramal agam apaaraa | My God is Immaculate, Inaccessible and Infinite. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਤਕੜੀ ਤੋਲੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥ bin takarree tolai sansaaraa | Without a scale, He weighs the universe. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਬੂਝੈ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ guramukh hovai soee boojhai gun keh gunee samaavaniaa |1| One who becomes Gurmukh, understands. Chanting His Glorious Praises, he is absorbed into the Lord of Virtue. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥ hau vaaree jeeo vaaree har kaa naam man vasaavaniaa | I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those whose minds are filled with the Name of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੋ ਸਚਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਸੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗੇ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ jo sach laage se anadin jaage dar sachai sobhaa paavaniaa |1| rahaau | Those who are committed to Truth remain awake and aware night and day. They are honored in the True Court. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪਿ ਸੁਣੈ ਤੈ ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ॥ aap sunai tai aape vekhai | He Himself hears, and He Himself sees. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਲੇਖੈ ॥ jis no nadar kare soee jan lekhai | Those, upon whom He casts His Glance of Grace, become acceptable. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਲਾਇ ਲਏ ਸੋ ਲਾਗੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥ aape laae le so laagai guramukh sach kamaavaniaa |2| They are attached, whom the Lord Himself attaches; as Gurmukh, they live the Truth. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਸੁ ਕਿਥੈ ਹਥੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ jis aap bhulaae su kithai hath paae | Those whom the Lord Himself misleads-whose hand can they take? - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਮੇਟਣਾ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥ poorab likhiaa su mettanaa na jaae | That which is pre-ordained, cannot be erased. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ jin satigur miliaa se vaddabhaagee poorai karam milaavaniaa |3| Those who meet the True Guru are very fortunate and blessed; through perfect karma, He is met. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਧਨ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸੁਤੀ ॥ peeearrai dhan anadin sutee | The young bride is fast asleep in her parents’ home, night and day. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕੰਤਿ ਵਿਸਾਰੀ ਅਵਗਣਿ ਮੁਤੀ ॥ kant visaaree avagan mutee | She has forgotten her Husband Lord; because of her faults and demerits, she is abandoned. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਦੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥ anadin sadaa firai bilalaadee bin pir need na paavaniaa |4| She wanders around continually, crying out, night and day. Without her Husband Lord, she cannot get any sleep. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਜਾਤਾ ॥ peeearrai sukhadaataa jaataa | In this world of her parents’ home, she may come to know the Giver of peace, - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥ haumai maar gur sabad pachhaataa | if she subdues her ego, and recognizes the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੇਜ ਸੁਹਾਵੀ ਸਦਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵੇ ਸਚੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ sej suhaavee sadaa pir raave sach seegaar banaavaniaa |5| Her bed is beautiful; she ravishes and enjoys her Husband Lord forever. She is adorned with the Decorations of Truth. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
