ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ maajh mahalaa 5 | Maajh, Fifth Mehl: - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕੀਨੀ ਦਇਆ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥ keenee deaa gopaal gusaaee | The Life of the World, the Sustainer of the Earth, has showered His Mercy; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਵਸੇ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥ gur ke charan vase man maahee | the Guru’s Feet have come to dwell within my mind. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅੰਗੀਕਾਰੁ ਕੀਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਦੁਖ ਕਾ ਡੇਰਾ ਢਾਹਿਆ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ angeekaar keea tin karatai dukh kaa dderaa dtaahiaa jeeo |1| The Creator has made me His Own. He has destroyed the city of sorrow. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਈ ॥ man tan vasiaa sachaa soee | The True One abides within my mind and body; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਖੜਾ ਥਾਨੁ ਨ ਦਿਸੈ ਕੋਈ ॥ bikharraa thaan na disai koee | no place seems difficult to me now. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੂਤ ਦੁਸਮਣ ਸਭਿ ਸਜਣ ਹੋਏ ਏਕੋ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਹਿਆ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥ doot dusaman sabh sajan hoe eko suaamee aahiaa jeeo |2| All the evil-doers and enemies have now become my friends. I long only for my Lord and Master. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੈ ॥ jo kichh kare su aape aapai | Whatever He does, He does all by Himself. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬੁਧਿ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ॥ budh siaanap kichhoo na jaapai | No one can know His Ways. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਪਣਿਆ ਸੰਤਾ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਸਹਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਭਰਮ ਭੁਲਾਵਾ ਲਾਹਿਆ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥ aapaniaa santaa no aap sahaaee prabh bharam bhulaavaa laahiaa jeeo |3| He Himself is the Helper and Support of His Saints. God has cast out my doubts and delusions. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਜਨ ਕਾ ਆਧਾਰੋ ॥ charan kamal jan kaa aadhaaro | His Lotus Feet are the Support of His humble servants. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੋ ॥ aatth pehar raam naam vaapaaro | Twenty-four hours a day, they deal in the Name of the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਹਜ ਅਨੰਦ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਬ ਸਮਾਹਿਆ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੩੬॥੪੩॥ sehaj anand gaaveh gun govind prabh naanak sarab samaahiaa jeeo |4|36|43| In peace and pleasure, they sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe. O Nanak, God is permeating everywhere. ||4||36||43|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਚੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥ so sach mandar jit sach dhiaaeeai | True is that temple, within which one meditates on the True Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋ ਰਿਦਾ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈਐ ॥ so ridaa suhelaa jit har gun gaaeeai | Blessed is that heart, within which the Lord’s Glorious Praises are sung. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾ ਧਰਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਵਸਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੋ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ saa dharat suhaavee jit vaseh har jan sache naam vittahu kurabaano jeeo |1| Beautiful is that land, where the Lord’s humble servants dwell. I am a sacrifice to the True Name. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਚੁ ਵਡਾਈ ਕੀਮ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥ sach vaddaaee keem na paaee | The extent of the True Lord’s Greatness cannot be known. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਰਮੁ ਨ ਕਹਣਾ ਜਾਈ ॥ kudarat karam na kahanaa jaaee | His Creative Power and His Bounties cannot be described. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਧਿਆਇ ਧਿਆਇ ਜੀਵਹਿ ਜਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਚੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਨਿ ਮਾਣੋ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥ dhiaae dhiaae jeeveh jan tere sach sabad man maano jeeo |2| Your humble servants live by meditating, meditating on You. Their minds treasure the True Word of the Shabad. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਣੁ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ sach saalaahan vaddabhaagee paaeeai | The Praises of the True One are obtained by great good fortune. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈਐ ॥ gur parasaadee har gun gaaeeai | By Guru’s Grace, the Glorious Praises of the Lord are sung. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤੇ ਤੇਰੈ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੋ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥ rang rate terai tudh bhaaveh sach naam neesaano jeeo |3| Those who are imbued with Your Love are pleasing to You. The True Name is their Banner and Insignia. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਚੇ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੋਈ ॥ sache ant na jaanai koee | No one knows the limits of the True Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਥਾਨਿ ਥਨੰਤਰਿ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਈ ॥ thaan thanantar sachaa soee | In all places and interspaces, the True One is pervading. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਜਾਣੋ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੩੭॥੪੪॥ naanak sach dhiaaeeai sad hee antarajaamee jaano jeeo |4|37|44| O Nanak, meditate forever on the True One, the Searcher of hearts, the Knower of all. ||4||37||44|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਰੈਣਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੜੀ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ॥ rain suhaavarree dinas suhelaa | Beautiful is the night, and beautiful is the day, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਪਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਮੇਲਾ ॥ jap amrit naam santasang melaa | when one joins the Society of the Saints and chants the Ambrosial Naam. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਘੜੀ ਮੂਰਤ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਪਲ ਵੰਞਹਿ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਸਫਲੁ ਤਿਥਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ gharree moorat simarat pal vanyeh jeevan safal tithaaee jeeo |1| If you remember the Lord in meditation for a moment, even for an instant, then your life will become fruitful and prosperous. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੋਖ ਸਭਿ ਲਾਥੇ ॥ simarat naam dokh sabh laathe | Remembering the Naam, the Name of the Lord, all sinful mistakes are erased. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਥੇ ॥ antar baahar har prabh saathe | Inwardly and outwardly, the Lord God is always with us. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭੈ ਭਉ ਭਰਮੁ ਖੋਇਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਦੇਖਾ ਸਭਨੀ ਜਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥ bhai bhau bharam khoeaa gur poorai dekhaa sabhanee jaaee jeeo |2| Fear, dread and doubt have been dispelled by the Perfect Guru; now, I see God everywhere. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਵਡ ਊਚ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ prabh samarath vadd aooch apaaraa | God is All-powerful, Vast, Lofty and Infinite. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥ nau nidh naam bhare bhanddaaraa | The Naam is overflowing with the nine treasures. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਮਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਈ ਦੂਜਾ ਲਵੈ ਨ ਲਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥ aad ant madh prabh soee doojaa lavai na laaee jeeo |3| In the beginning, in the middle, and in the end, there is God. Nothing else even comes close to Him. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥ kar kirapaa mere deen deaalaa | Take pity on me, O my Lord, Merciful to the meek. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਚਿਕੁ ਜਾਚੈ ਸਾਧ ਰਵਾਲਾ ॥ jaachik jaachai saadh ravaalaa | I am a beggar, begging for the dust of the feet of the Holy. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੇਹਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਨੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੩੮॥੪੫॥ dehi daan naanak jan maagai sadaa sadaa har dhiaaee jeeo |4|38|45| Servant Nanak begs for this gift: let me meditate on the Lord, forever and ever. ||4||38||45|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਐਥੈ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਆਗੈ ਆਪੇ ॥ aithai toonhai aagai aape | You are here, and You are hereafter. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਸਭਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਥਾਪੇ ॥ jeea jantr sabh tere thaape | All beings and creatures were created by You. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਕਰਤੇ ਮੈ ਧਰ ਓਟ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ tudh bin avar na koee karate mai dhar ott tumaaree jeeo |1| Without You, there is no other, O Creator. You are my Support and my Protection. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰਸਨਾ ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥ rasanaa jap jap jeevai suaamee | The tongue lives by chanting and meditating on the Lord’s Name. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥ paarabraham prabh antarajaamee | The Supreme Lord God is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਨਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੋ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਜੂਐ ਹਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥ jin seviaa tin hee sukh paaeaa so janam na jooai haaree jeeo |2| Those who serve the Lord find peace; they do not lose their lives in the gamble. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਅਵਖਧੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਨ ਤੇਰੈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ naam avakhadh jin jan terai paaeaa | Your humble servant, who obtains the Medicine of the Naam, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
