ਰੇਨੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਮੇਰੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਗੀ ॥ ren santan kee merai mukh laagee | I applied the dust of the feet of the Saints to my face. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਬਿਨਸੀ ਕੁਬੁਧਿ ਅਭਾਗੀ ॥ duramat binasee kubudh abhaagee | My evil-mindedness disappeared, along with my misfortune and false-mindedness. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਚ ਘਰਿ ਬੈਸਿ ਰਹੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਕੂਰਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੧੧॥੧੮॥ sach ghar bais rahe gun gaae naanak binase kooraa jeeo |4|11|18| I sit in the true home of my self; I sing His Glorious Praises. O Nanak, my falsehood has vanished! ||4||11||18|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਵਿਸਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਏਵਡ ਦਾਤੇ ॥ visar naahee evadd daate | I shall never forget You-You are such a Great Giver! - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਭਗਤਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ॥ kar kirapaa bhagatan sang raate | Please grant Your Grace, and imbue me with the love of devotional worship. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਜਿਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਈ ਏਹੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਕਰਣਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ dinas rain jiau tudh dhiaaee ehu daan mohi karanaa jeeo |1| If it pleases You, let me meditate on You day and night; please, grant me this gift! ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਾਟੀ ਅੰਧੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥ maattee andhee surat samaaee | Into this blind clay, You have infused awareness. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਦੀਆ ਭਲੀਆ ਜਾਈ ॥ sabh kichh deea bhaleea jaaee | Everything, everywhere which You have given is good. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਨਦ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਚੋਜ ਤਮਾਸੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਹੋਣਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥ anad binod choj tamaase tudh bhaavai so honaa jeeo |2| Bliss, joyful celebrations, wondrous plays and entertainment-whatever pleases You, comes to pass. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਲੈਣਾ ॥ jis daa ditaa sabh kichh lainaa | Everything we receive is a gift from Him - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਛਤੀਹ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਖਾਣਾ ॥ chhateeh amrit bhojan khaanaa | -the thirty-six delicious foods to eat, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੇਜ ਸੁਖਾਲੀ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਪਵਣਾ ਸਹਜ ਕੇਲ ਰੰਗ ਕਰਣਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥ sej sukhaalee seetal pavanaa sehaj kel rang karanaa jeeo |3| cozy beds, cooling breezes, peaceful joy and the experience of pleasure. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾ ਬੁਧਿ ਦੀਜੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਵਿਸਰਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ saa budh deejai jit visareh naahee | Give me that state of mind, by which I may not forget You. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾ ਮਤਿ ਦੀਜੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਈ ॥ saa mat deejai jit tudh dhiaaee | Give me that understanding, by which I may meditate on You. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਸ ਸਾਸ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਓਟ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੧੯॥ saas saas tere gun gaavaa ott naanak gur charanaa jeeo |4|12|19| I sing Your Glorious Praises with each and every breath. Nanak takes the Support of the Guru’s Feet. ||4||12||19|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹਣੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਰਜਾਈ ॥ sifat saalaahan teraa hukam rajaaee | To praise You is to follow Your Command and Your Will. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਈ ॥ so giaan dhiaan jo tudh bhaaee | That which pleases You is spiritual wisdom and meditation. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋਈ ਜਪੁ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਪੂਰ ਗਿਆਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ soee jap jo prabh jeeo bhaavai bhaanai poor giaanaa jeeo |1| That which pleases God is chanting and meditation; to be in harmony with His Will is perfect spiritual wisdom. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਸੋਈ ਗਾਵੈ ॥ amrit naam teraa soee gaavai | He alone sings Your Ambrosial Naam, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ jo saahib terai man bhaavai | Who is pleasing to Your Mind, O my Lord and Master. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੂੰ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਾ ਸੰਤ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥ toon santan kaa sant tumaare sant saahib man maanaa jeeo |2| You belong to the Saints, and the Saints belong to You. The minds of the Saints are attuned to You, O my Lord and Master. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੂੰ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਕਰਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਾ ॥ toon santan kee kareh pratipaalaa | You cherish and nurture the Saints. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤ ਖੇਲਹਿ ਤੁਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਗੋਪਾਲਾ ॥ sant kheleh tum sang gopaalaa | The Saints play with You, O Sustainer of the World. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸੰਤ ਤੁਧੁ ਖਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤੂ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥ apune sant tudh khare piaare too santan ke praanaa jeeo |3| Your Saints are very dear to You. You are the breath of life of the Saints. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਉਨ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੇ ॥ aun santan kai meraa man kurabaane | My mind is a sacrifice to those Saints who know You, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਨ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਤਾ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਨੇ ॥ jin toon jaataa jo tudh man bhaane | and are pleasing to Your Mind. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੨੦॥ tin kai sang sadaa sukh paaeaa har ras naanak tripat aghaanaa jeeo |4|13|20| In their company I have found a lasting peace. Nanak is satisfied and fulfilled with the Sublime Essence of the Lord. ||4||13||20|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਤੂੰ ਜਲਨਿਧਿ ਹਮ ਮੀਨ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ॥ toon jalanidh ham meen tumaare | You are the Ocean of Water, and I am Your fish. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੂੰਦ ਹਮ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਤਿਖਹਾਰੇ ॥ teraa naam boond ham chaatrik tikhahaare | Your Name is the drop of water, and I am a thirsty rainbird. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੁਮਰੀ ਆਸ ਪਿਆਸਾ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਨੁ ਲੀਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ tumaree aas piaasaa tumaree tum hee sang man leenaa jeeo |1| You are my hope, and You are my thirst. My mind is absorbed in You. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਉ ਬਾਰਿਕੁ ਪੀ ਖੀਰੁ ਅਘਾਵੈ ॥ jiau baarik pee kheer aghaavai | Just as the baby is satisfied by drinking milk, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਉ ਨਿਰਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ jiau niradhan dhan dekh sukh paavai | and the poor person is pleased by seeing wealth, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤ੍ਰਿਖਾਵੰਤ ਜਲੁ ਪੀਵਤ ਠੰਢਾ ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਭੀਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥ trikhaavant jal peevat tthandtaa tiau har sang ihu man bheenaa jeeo |2| and the thirsty person is refreshed by drinking cool water, so is this mind drenched with delight in the Lord. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਉ ਅੰਧਿਆਰੈ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ॥ jiau andhiaarai deepak paragaasaa | Just as the darkness is lit up by the lamp, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਰਤਾ ਚਿਤਵਤ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸਾ ॥ bharataa chitavat pooran aasaa | and the hopes of the wife are fulfilled by thinking about her husband, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਜਿਉ ਹੋਤ ਅਨੰਦਾ ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਮਨੁ ਰੰਗੀਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥ mil preetam jiau hot anandaa tiau har rang man rangeenaa jeeo |3| and people are filled with bliss upon meeting their beloved, so is my mind imbued with the Lord’s Love. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤਨ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ santan mo kau har maarag paaeaa | The Saints have set me upon the Lord’s Path. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਗਿਝਾਇਆ ॥ saadh kripaal har sang gijhaaeaa | By the Grace of the Holy Saint, I have been attuned to the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਹਮਰਾ ਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਦਾਸੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਚੁ ਦੀਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੧੪॥੨੧॥ har hamaraa ham har ke daase naanak sabad guroo sach deenaa jeeo |4|14|21| The Lord is mine, and I am the slave of the Lord. O Nanak, the Guru has blessed me with the True Word of the Shabad. ||4||14||21|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਦੂਖ ਬਿਡਾਰਨ ਹਰੀਆ ॥ sukhadaaee dookh biddaaran hareea | The Lord is the Giver of Peace and the Dispeller of sorrow. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਵਰਿ ਸਾਦ ਚਖਿ ਸਗਲੇ ਦੇਖੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਮੀਠਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ avar saad chakh sagale dekhe man har ras sabh te meetthaa jeeo |1| I have seen and tasted all other flavors, but to my mind, the Subtle Essence of the Lord is the sweetest of all. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
