ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੋ ਸਿਰੁ ਲੇਖੈ ਲਾਇ ॥ satigur seve aapanaa so sir lekhai laae | Those who serve their True Guru are certified and accepted. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ਕੈ ਰਹਨਿ ਸਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥ vichahu aap gavaae kai rehan sach liv laae | They eradicate selfishness and conceit from within; they remain lovingly absorbed in the True One. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਓ ਤਿਨਾ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥ satigur jinee na sevio tinaa birathaa janam gavaae | Those who do not serve the True Guru waste away their lives in vain. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ naanak jo tis bhaavai so kare kahanaa kichhoo na jaae |1| O Nanak, the Lord does just as He pleases. No one has any say in this. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨੁ ਵੇਕਾਰੀ ਵੇੜਿਆ ਵੇਕਾਰਾ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥ man vekaaree verriaa vekaaraa karam kamaae | With the mind encircled by wickedness and evil, people do evil deeds. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਪੂਜਦੇ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥ doojai bhaae agiaanee poojade daragah milai sajaae | The ignorant worship the love of duality; in the Lord’s Court they shall be punished. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਤਮ ਦੇਉ ਪੂਜੀਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥ aatam deo poojeeai bin satigur boojh na paae | So worship the Lord, the Light of the soul; without the True Guru, understanding is not obtained. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਭਾਣਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਕਾ ਕਰਮੀ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥ jap tap sanjam bhaanaa satiguroo kaa karamee palai paae | Meditation, penance and austere self-discipline are found by surrendering to the True Guru’s Will. By His Grace this is received. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਵਣੀ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥ naanak sevaa surat kamaavanee jo har bhaavai so thaae paae |2| O Nanak, serve with this intuitive awareness; only that which is pleasing to the Lord is approved. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ॥ har har naam japahu man mere jit sadaa sukh hovai din raatee | Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O my mind; it will bring you eternal peace, day and night. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸਭਿ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਪਾਪ ਲਹਾਤੀ ॥ har har naam japahu man mere jit simarat sabh kilavikh paap lahaatee | Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O my mind; meditating on it, all sins and misdeeds shall be erased. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਜਿਤੁ ਦਾਲਦੁ ਦੁਖ ਭੁਖ ਸਭ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਤੀ ॥ har har naam japahu man mere jit daalad dukh bhukh sabh leh jaatee | Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O my mind; through it, all poverty, pain and hunger shall be removed. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਤੀ ॥ har har naam japahu man mere mukh guramukh preet lagaatee | Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O my mind; as Gurmukh, declare your love. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਿਤੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਭਾਗੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਤੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਤੀ ॥੧੩॥ jit mukh bhaag likhiaa dhur saachai har tith mukh naam japaatee |13| One who has such pre-ordained destiny inscribed upon his forehead by the True Lord, chants the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||13|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਓ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਕੀਤੋ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ satigur jinee na sevio sabad na keeto veechaar | Those who do not serve the True Guru, and who do not contemplate the Word of the Shabad - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਮਿਰਤਕੁ ਹੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥ antar giaan na aaeo miratak hai sansaar | -spiritual wisdom does not enter into their hearts; they are like dead bodies in the world. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਫੇਰੁ ਪਇਆ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥ lakh chauraaseeh fer peaa mar jamai hoe khuaar | They go through the cycle of 8.4 million reincarnations, and they are ruined through death and rebirth. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਸੋਇ ॥ satigur kee sevaa so kare jis no aap karaae soe | He alone serves the True Guru, whom the Lord Himself inspires to do so. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਿਚਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ satigur vich naam nidhaan hai karam paraapat hoe | The Treasure of the Naam is within the True Guru; by His Grace, it is obtained. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਗੁਰਸਬਦ ਸਿਉ ਤਿਨ ਸਚੀ ਸਦਾ ਲਿਵ ਹੋਇ ॥ sach rate gurasabad siau tin sachee sadaa liv hoe | Those who are truly attuned to the Word of the Guru’s Shabad-their love is forever True. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਮੇਲੇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ naanak jis no mele na vichhurrai sehaj samaavai soe |1| O Nanak, those who are united with Him shall not be separated again. They merge imperceptibly into God. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸੋ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਜੋੁ ਭਗਵੰਤੈ ਜਾਣੈ ॥ so bhgautee juo bhagavantai jaanai | One who knows the Benevolent Lord God is the true devotee of Bhagaautee. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥ gur parasaadee aap pachhaanai | By Guru’s Grace, he is self-realized. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਧਾਵਤੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਇਕਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਆਣੈ ॥ dhaavat raakhai ikat ghar aanai | He restrains his wandering mind, and brings it back to its own home within the self. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥ jeevat marai har naam vakhaanai | He remains dead while yet alive, and he chants the Name of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਐਸਾ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਉਤਮੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ aisaa bhgautee utam hoe | Such a Bhagaautee is most exalted. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥ naanak sach samaavai soe |2| O Nanak, he merges into the True One. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਕਹਾਏ ॥ antar kapatt bhgautee kahaae | He is full of deceit, and yet he calls himself a devotee of Bhagaautee. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥ paakhandd paarabraham kade na paae | Through hypocrisy, he shall never attain the Supreme Lord God. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰੇ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਏ ॥ par nindaa kare antar mal laae | He slanders others, and pollutes himself with his own filth. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਾਹਰਿ ਮਲੁ ਧੋਵੈ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਜੂਠਿ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥ baahar mal dhovai man kee jootth na jaae | Outwardly, he washes off the filth, but the impurity of his mind does not go away. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਬਾਦੁ ਰਚਾਏ ॥ satasangat siau baad rachaae | He argues with the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਦੁਖੀਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਰਚਾਏ ॥ anadin dukheea doojai bhaae rachaae | Night and day, he suffers, engrossed in the love of duality. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਏ ॥ har naam na chetai bahu karam kamaae | He does not remember the Name of the Lord, but still, he performs all sorts of empty rituals. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰਬ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਮੇਟਣਾ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥ poorab likhiaa su mettanaa na jaae | That which is pre-ordained cannot be erased. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਮੋਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥ naanak bin satigur seve mokh na paae |3| O Nanak, without serving the True Guru, liberation is not obtained. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਸੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਹੀ ॥ satigur jinee dhiaaeaa se tripat aghaahee | Those who meditate on the True Guru are satisfied and fulfilled. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਤਿਨ ਜਮ ਡਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ satigur jinee dhiaaeaa tin jam ddar naahee | Those who meditate on the True Guru are not afraid of the Messenger of Death. - Guru Ramdas Ji
