ਵਖਤੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ਸੁ ਬੰਦਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ vakhat veechaare su bandaa hoe | One who reflects upon his allotted span of life, becomes the slave of God. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਹੈ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਇ ॥ kudarat hai keemat nahee paae | The value of the Creative Power of the Universe cannot be known. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਾ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਇ ਤ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ jaa keemat paae ta kahee na jaae | Even if its value were known, it could not be described. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਰੈ ਸਰੀਅਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ sarai sareeat kareh beechaar | Some think about religious rituals and regulations, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਕੈਸੇ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਪਾਰੁ ॥ bin boojhe kaise paaveh paar | but without understanding, how can they cross over to the other side? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਿਦਕੁ ਕਰਿ ਸਿਜਦਾ ਮਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਖਸੂਦੁ ॥ sidak kar sijadaa man kar makhasood | Let sincere faith be your bowing in prayer, and let the conquest of your mind be your objective in life. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਿਹ ਧਿਰਿ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਿਹ ਧਿਰਿ ਮਉਜੂਦੁ ॥੧॥ jih dhir dekhaa tih dhir maujood |1| Wherever I look, there I see God’s Presence. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਗੁਰ ਸਭਾ ਏਵ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾ ਨੇੜੈ ਨਾ ਦੂਰਿ ॥ gur sabhaa ev na paaeeai naa nerrai naa door | The Society of the Guru is not obtained like this, by trying to be near or far away. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਤਾਂ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਹੈ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੨॥ naanak satigur taan milai jaa man rahai hadoor |2| O Nanak, you shall meet the True Guru, if your mind remains in His Presence. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਪਤ ਦੀਪ ਸਪਤ ਸਾਗਰਾ ਨਵ ਖੰਡ ਚਾਰਿ ਵੇਦ ਦਸ ਅਸਟ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ॥ sapat deep sapat saagaraa nav khandd chaar ved das asatt puraanaa | The seven islands, seven seas, nine continents, four Vedas and eighteen Puraanas - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਤੂੰ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਭਾਣਾ ॥ har sabhanaa vich toon varatadaa har sabhanaa bhaanaa | O Lord, You pervade and permeate all. Lord, everyone loves You. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਭਿ ਤੁਝੈ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਰਗ ਪਾਣਾ ॥ sabh tujhai dhiaaveh jeea jant har saarag paanaa | All beings and creatures meditate on You, Lord. You hold the earth in Your Hands. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧਦੇ ਤਿਨ ਹਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਣਾ ॥ jo guramukh har aaraadhade tin hau kurabaanaa | I am a sacrifice to those Gurmukhs who worship and adore the Lord. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਕਰਿ ਚੋਜ ਵਿਡਾਣਾ ॥੪॥ toon aape aap varatadaa kar choj viddaanaa |4| You Yourself are All-pervading; You stage this wondrous drama! ||4|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਕਲਉ ਮਸਾਜਨੀ ਕਿਆ ਸਦਾਈਐ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹੀ ਲਿਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ॥ klau masaajanee kiaa sadaaeeai hiradai hee likh lehu | Why ask for a pen, and why ask for ink? Write within your heart. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਦਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਹੈ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਨ ਤੂਟਸਿ ਨੇਹੁ ॥ sadaa saahib kai rang rahai kabahoon na toottas nehu | Remain immersed forever in the Love of your Lord and Master, and your love for Him shall never break. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕਲਉ ਮਸਾਜਨੀ ਜਾਇਸੀ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਭੀ ਨਾਲੇ ਜਾਇ ॥ klau masaajanee jaaeisee likhiaa bhee naale jaae | Pen and ink shall pass away, along with what has been written. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਜਾਇਸੀ ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਸਚੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ naanak seh preet na jaaeisee jo dhur chhoddee sachai paae |1| O Nanak, the Love of your Husband Lord shall never perish. The True Lord has bestowed it, as it was pre-ordained. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਦਰੀ ਆਵਦਾ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਚਲਈ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਕੋ ਵਿਉਪਾਇ ॥ nadaree aavadaa naal na chalee vekhahu ko viaupaae | That which is seen, shall not go along with you. What does it take to make you see this? - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਸਚਿ ਰਹਹੁ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥ satigur sach drirraaeaa sach rahahu liv laae | The True Guru has implanted the True Name within; remain lovingly absorbed in the True One. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦੀ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਕਰਮੀ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥ naanak sabadee sach hai karamee palai paae |2| O Nanak, the Word of His Shabad is True. By His Grace, it is obtained. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਰਿ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਇਕੁ ਤੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਭੇਤੁ ॥ har andar baahar ik toon toon jaaneh bhet | O Lord, You are inside and outside as well. You are the Knower of secrets. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜੋ ਕੀਚੈ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤੁ ॥ jo keechai so har jaanadaa mere man har chet | Whatever anyone does, the Lord knows. O my mind, think of the Lord. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸੋ ਡਰੈ ਜਿ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਵਦਾ ਧਰਮੀ ਵਿਗਸੇਤੁ ॥ so ddarai ji paap kamaavadaa dharamee vigaset | The one who commits sins lives in fear, while the one who lives righteously rejoices. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਆਉ ਸਚੁ ਤਾ ਡਰੀਐ ਕੇਤੁ ॥ toon sachaa aap niaau sach taa ddareeai ket | O Lord, You Yourself are True, and True is Your Justice. Why should anyone be afraid? - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਿਨਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਸੇ ਸਚਿ ਰਲੇਤੁ ॥੫॥ jinaa naanak sach pachhaaniaa se sach ralet |5| O Nanak, those who recognize the True Lord are blended with the True One. ||5|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਕਲਮ ਜਲਉ ਸਣੁ ਮਸਵਾਣੀਐ ਕਾਗਦੁ ਭੀ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥ kalam jlau san masavaaneeai kaagad bhee jal jaau | Burn the pen, and burn the ink; burn the paper as well. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਲਿਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਜਲਿ ਬਲਉ ਜਿਨਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ॥ likhan vaalaa jal blau jin likhiaa doojaa bhaau | Burn the writer who writes in the love of duality. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ naanak poorab likhiaa kamaavanaa avar na karanaa jaae |1| O Nanak, people do what is pre-ordained; they cannot do anything else. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹੋਰੁ ਕੂੜੁ ਪੜਣਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ hor koorr parranaa koorr bolanaa maaeaa naal piaar | False is other reading, and false is other speaking, in the love of Maya. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਥਿਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੨॥ naanak vin naavai ko thir nahee parr parr hoe khuaar |2| O Nanak, without the Name, nothing is permanent; those who read and read are ruined. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਡੀ ਹੈ ਜਾ ਨਿਆਉ ਹੈ ਧਰਮ ਕਾ ॥ har kee vaddiaaee vaddee hai jaa niaau hai dharam kaa | Great is the Greatness of the Lord; His Justice is totally Righteous. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਡੀ ਹੈ ਜਾ ਫਲੁ ਹੈ ਜੀਅ ਕਾ ॥ har kee vaddiaaee vaddee hai jaa fal hai jeea kaa | Great is the Greatness of the Lord; people receive the fruits of the soul. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਡੀ ਹੈ ਜਾ ਨ ਸੁਣਈ ਕਹਿਆ ਚੁਗਲ ਕਾ ॥ har kee vaddiaaee vaddee hai jaa na sunee kahiaa chugal kaa | Great is the Greatness of the Lord; He does not hear the words of the back-biters. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਡੀ ਹੈ ਅਪੁਛਿਆ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਵਕਾ ॥੬॥ har kee vaddiaaee vaddee hai apuchhiaa daan devakaa |6| Great is the Greatness of the Lord; He gives His Gifts without being asked. ||6|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤੀ ਸਭ ਮੁਈ ਸੰਪਉ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਨਾਲਿ ॥ hau hau karatee sabh muee sanpau kisai na naal | Those who act in ego shall all die. Their worldly possessions shall not go along with them. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਭ ਜੋਹੀ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ॥ doojai bhaae dukh paaeaa sabh johee jamakaal | Because of their love of duality, they suffer in pain. The Messenger of Death is watching all. - Guru Amardas Ji
