ਪੁਰਬੇ ਕਮਾਏ ਸ੍ਰੀਰੰਗ ਪਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਚਿਰੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਿਆ ॥ purabe kamaae sreerang paae har mile chiree vichhuniaa | By my past actions, I have found the Lord, the Greatest Lover. Separated from Him for so long, I am united with Him again. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸਰਬਤਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਬਿਸੁਆਸੋ ॥ antar baahar sarabat raviaa man upajiaa bisuaaso | Inside and out, He is pervading everywhere. Faith in Him has welled up within my mind. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਿਖ ਦੇਇ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕਰਿ ਸੰਤਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੋ ॥੪॥ naanak sikh dee man preetam kar santaa sang nivaaso |4| Nanak gives this advice: O beloved mind, let the Society of the Saints be your dwelling. ||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ਜੀਉ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਲੀਨਾ ॥ man piaariaa jeeo mitraa har prem bhagat man leenaa | O dear beloved mind, my friend, let your mind remain absorbed in loving devotion to the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ਜੀਉ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਲ ਮਿਲਿ ਜੀਵੇ ਮੀਨਾ ॥ man piaariaa jeeo mitraa har jal mil jeeve meenaa | O dear beloved mind, my friend, the fish of the mind lives only when it is immersed in the Water of the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਪੀ ਆਘਾਨੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਨੇ ਸ੍ਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਮਨ ਵੁਠੇ ॥ har pee aaghaane amrit baane srab sukhaa man vutthe | Drinking in the Lord’s Ambrosial Bani, the mind is satisfied, and all pleasures come to abide within. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸ੍ਰੀਧਰ ਪਾਏ ਮੰਗਲ ਗਾਏ ਇਛ ਪੁੰਨੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੁਠੇ ॥ sreedhar paae mangal gaae ichh punee satigur tutthe | Attaining the Lord of Excellence, I sing the Songs of Joy. The True Guru, becoming merciful, has fulfilled my desires. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਲੜਿ ਲੀਨੇ ਲਾਏ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਏ ਨਾਉ ਸਰਬਸੁ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਦੀਨਾ ॥ larr leene laae nau nidh paae naau sarabas tthaakur deenaa | He has attached me to the hem of His robe, and I have obtained the nine treasures. My Lord and Master has bestowed His Name, which is everything to me. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿਖ ਸੰਤ ਸਮਝਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਲੀਨਾ ॥੫॥੧॥੨॥ naanak sikh sant samajhaaee har prem bhagat man leenaa |5|1|2| Nanak instructs the Saints to teach, that the mind is imbued with loving devotion to the Lord. ||5||1||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਹਠ ਮਝਾਹੂ ਮਾ ਪਿਰੀ ਪਸੇ ਕਿਉ ਦੀਦਾਰ ॥ hatth majhaahoo maa piree pase kiau deedaar | My Beloved Husband Lord is deep within my heart. How can I see Him? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਲਭਣੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰ ॥੧॥ sant saranaaee labhane naanak praan adhaar |1| In the Sanctuary of the Saints, O Nanak, the Support of the breath of life is found. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਰੀਤਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਮਨਿ ਆਵਏ ਜੀਉ ॥ charan kamal siau preet reet santan man aave jeeo | To love the Lotus Feet of the Lord-this way of life has come into the minds of His Saints. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੁਤੀਆ ਭਾਉ ਬਿਪਰੀਤਿ ਅਨੀਤਿ ਦਾਸਾ ਨਹ ਭਾਵਏ ਜੀਉ ॥ duteea bhaau bipareet aneet daasaa neh bhaave jeeo | The love of duality, this evil practice, this bad habit, is not liked by the Lord’s slaves. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਾਸਾ ਨਹ ਭਾਵਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਦਰਸਾਵਏ ਇਕ ਖਿਨੁ ਧੀਰਜੁ ਕਿਉ ਕਰੈ ॥ daasaa neh bhaave bin darasaave ik khin dheeraj kiau karai | It is not pleasing to the Lord’s slaves; without the Blessed Vision of the Lord’s Darshan, how can they find peace, even for a moment? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਨਾ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਹੀਨਾ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਜਿਉ ਮਰੈ ॥ naam bihoonaa tan man heenaa jal bin machhulee jiau marai | Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the body and mind are empty; like fish out of water, they die. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਿਲੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਗਾਵਏ ॥ mil mere piaare praan adhaare gun saadhasang mil gaave | Please meet with me, O my Beloved-You are the Support of my breath of life. Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I sing Your Glorious Praises. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਧਾਰਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਵਏ ॥੧॥ naanak ke suaamee dhaar anugrahu man tan ank samaave |1| O Lord and Master of Nanak, please grant Your Grace, and permeate my body, mind and being. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਸੋਹੰਦੜੋ ਹਭ ਠਾਇ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਦਿਸੈ ਡੂਜੜੋ ॥ sohandarro habh tthaae koe na disai ddoojarro | He is Beautiful in all places; I do not see any other at all. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਖੁਲੑੜੇ ਕਪਾਟ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟਤੇ ॥੧॥ khularre kapaatt naanak satigur bhettate |1| Meeting with the True Guru, O Nanak, the doors are opened wide. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਤੇਰੇ ਬਚਨ ਅਨੂਪ ਅਪਾਰ ਸੰਤਨ ਆਧਾਰ ਬਾਣੀ ਬੀਚਾਰੀਐ ਜੀਉ ॥ tere bachan anoop apaar santan aadhaar baanee beechaareeai jeeo | Your Word is Incomparable and Infinite. I contemplate the Word of Your Bani, the Support of the Saints. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸਾਸ ਗਿਰਾਸ ਪੂਰਨ ਬਿਸੁਆਸ ਕਿਉ ਮਨਹੁ ਬਿਸਾਰੀਐ ਜੀਉ ॥ simarat saas giraas pooran bisuaas kiau manahu bisaareeai jeeo | I remember Him in meditation with every breath and morsel of food, with perfect faith. How could I forget Him from my mind? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਿਉ ਮਨਹੁ ਬੇਸਾਰੀਐ ਨਿਮਖ ਨਹੀ ਟਾਰੀਐ ਗੁਣਵੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥ kiau manahu besaareeai nimakh nahee ttaareeai gunavant praan hamaare | How could I forget Him from my mind, even for an instant? He is the Most Worthy; He is my very life! - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨ ਬਾਂਛਤ ਫਲ ਦੇਤ ਹੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਸਾਰੇ ॥ man baanchhat fal det hai suaamee jeea kee birathaa saare | My Lord and Master is the Giver of the fruits of the mind’s desires. He knows all the useless vanities and pains of the soul. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਨਾਥ ਕੇ ਨਾਥੇ ਸ੍ਰਬ ਕੈ ਸਾਥੇ ਜਪਿ ਜੂਐ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਹਾਰੀਐ ॥ anaath ke naathe srab kai saathe jap jooai janam na haareeai | Meditating on the Patron of lost souls, the Companion of all, your life shall not be lost in the gamble. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਹਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਾਰੀਐ ॥੨॥ naanak kee benantee prabh peh kripaa kar bhavajal taareeai |2| Nanak offers this prayer to God: Please shower me with Your Mercy, and carry me across the terrifying world-ocean. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਲਧੇ ਹਭੇ ਥੋਕੜੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਮਾਲ ॥੧॥ ladhe habhe thokarre naanak har dhan maal |1| I have obtained all things, O Nanak; the Lord is my Wealth and Property. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਧਾਮ ਭਗਤਹ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ਆਸਾ ਲਗਿ ਜੀਵਤੇ ਜੀਉ ॥ sundar suaamee dhaam bhagatah bisraam aasaa lag jeevate jeeo | My Lord and Master’s Home is beautiful. It is the resting place of His devotees, who live in hopes of attaining it. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨਿ ਤਨੇ ਗਲਤਾਨ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵਤੇ ਜੀਉ ॥ man tane galataan simarat prabh naam har amrit peevate jeeo | Their minds and bodies are absorbed in meditation on the Name of God; they drink in the Lord’s Ambrosial Nectar. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
