ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਤਾ ਖੜਿ ਰਸਾਤਲਿ ਦੀਤ ॥੭॥ chit na aaeo paarabraham taa kharr rasaatal deet |7| But still, if you do not come to remember the Supreme Lord God, then you shall be taken and consigned to the most hideous hell! ||7|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਾਇਆ ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਛਿਦ੍ਰੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਾੜਾ ਸੋਗੁ ॥ kaaeaa rog na chhidru kichh naa kichh kaarraa sog | You may have a body free of disease and deformity, and have no worries or grief at all; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਆਵੀ ਚਿਤਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਭੋਗੈ ਭੋਗੁ ॥ mirat na aavee chit tis ahinis bhogai bhog | you may be unmindful of death, and night and day revel in pleasures; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਤੋਨੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਇ ਨ ਸੰਕ ਧਰਿਆ ॥ sabh kichh keeton aapanaa jee na sank dhariaa | you may take everything as your own, and have no fear in your mind at all; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਜਮਕੰਕਰ ਵਸਿ ਪਰਿਆ ॥੮॥ chit na aaeo paarabraham jamakankar vas pariaa |8| but still, if you do not come to remember the Supreme Lord God, you shall fall under the power of the Messenger of Death. ||8|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ॥ kirapaa kare jis paarabraham hovai saadhoo sang | The Supreme Lord showers His Mercy, and we find the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਓਹੁ ਵਧਾਈਐ ਤਿਉ ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰੰਗੁ ॥ jiau jiau ohu vadhaaeeai tiau tiau har siau rang | The more time we spend there, the more we come to love the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੁਹਾ ਸਿਰਿਆ ਕਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਆਪਿ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਥਾਉ ॥ duhaa siriaa kaa khasam aap avar na doojaa thaau | The Lord is the Master of both worlds; there is no other place of rest. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੁਠੈ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥੯॥੧॥੨੬॥ satigur tutthai paaeaa naanak sachaa naau |9|1|26| When the True Guru is pleased and satisfied, O Nanak, the True Name is obtained. ||9||1||26|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਜਾਨਉ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਵੈ ਕਵਨ ਬਾਤਾ ॥ jaanau nahee bhaavai kavan baataa | I do not know what pleases my Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨ ਖੋਜਿ ਮਾਰਗੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ man khoj maarag |1| rahaau | O mind, seek out the way! ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਧਿਆਨੀ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਲਾਵਹਿ ॥ dhiaanee dhiaan laaveh | The meditatives practice meditation, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗਿਆਨੀ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ॥ giaanee giaan kamaaveh | and the wise practice spiritual wisdom, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਿਨ ਹੀ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੧॥ prabh kin hee jaataa |1| but how rare are those who know God! ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਗਉਤੀ ਰਹਤ ਜੁਗਤਾ ॥ bhgautee rehat jugataa | The worshipper of Bhagaauti practices self-discipline, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋਗੀ ਕਹਤ ਮੁਕਤਾ ॥ jogee kehat mukataa | the Yogi speaks of liberation, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਪਸੀ ਤਪਹਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥੨॥ tapasee tapeh raataa |2| and the ascetic is absorbed in asceticism. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੋਨੀ ਮੋਨਿਧਾਰੀ ॥ monee monidhaaree | The men of silence observe silence, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਨਿਆਸੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਚਾਰੀ ॥ saniaasee brahamachaaree | the Sanyaasees observe celibacy, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਉਦਾਸੀ ਉਦਾਸਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥੩॥ audaasee udaas raataa |3| and the Udaasees abide in detachment. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਗਤਿ ਨਵੈ ਪਰਕਾਰਾ ॥ bhagat navai parakaaraa | There are nine forms of devotional worship. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਵੇਦੁ ਪੁਕਾਰਾ ॥ panddit ved pukaaraa | The Pandits recite the Vedas. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗਿਰਸਤੀ ਗਿਰਸਤਿ ਧਰਮਾਤਾ ॥੪॥ girasatee girasat dharamaataa |4| The householders assert their faith in family life. ||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਇਕ ਸਬਦੀ ਬਹੁ ਰੂਪਿ ਅਵਧੂਤਾ ॥ eik sabadee bahu roop avadhootaa | Those who utter only One Word, those who take many forms, the naked renunciates, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਾਪੜੀ ਕਉਤੇ ਜਾਗੂਤਾ ॥ kaaparree kaute jaagootaa | the wearers of patched coats, the magicians, those who remain always awake, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਇਕਿ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਤਾ ॥੫॥ eik teerath naataa |5| and those who bathe at holy places of pilgrimage-||5|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਿਰਹਾਰ ਵਰਤੀ ਆਪਰਸਾ ॥ nirahaar varatee aaparasaa | Those who go without food, those who never touch others, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਇਕਿ ਲੂਕਿ ਨ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਦਰਸਾ ॥ eik look na deveh darasaa | the hermits who never show themselves, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਇਕਿ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਗਿਆਤਾ ॥੬॥ eik man hee giaataa |6| and those who are wise in their own minds-||6|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਘਾਟਿ ਨ ਕਿਨ ਹੀ ਕਹਾਇਆ ॥ ghaatt na kin hee kahaaeaa | Of these, no one admits to any deficiency; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਭ ਕਹਤੇ ਹੈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ sabh kahate hai paaeaa | all say that they have found the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਸੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੋ ਭਗਤਾ ॥੭॥ jis mele so bhagataa |7| But he alone is a devotee, whom the Lord has united with Himself. ||7|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਗਲ ਉਕਤਿ ਉਪਾਵਾ ॥ sagal ukat upaavaa | Abandoning all devices and contrivances, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਆਗੀ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਾਵਾ ॥ tiaagee saran paavaa | I have sought His Sanctuary. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣਿ ਪਰਾਤਾ ॥੮॥੨॥੨੭॥ naanak gur charan paraataa |8|2|27| Nanak has fallen at the Feet of the Guru. ||8||2||27|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਜੋਗੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਜੋਗੀਆ ॥ jogee andar jogeea | Among Yogis, You are the Yogi; - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤੂੰ ਭੋਗੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਭੋਗੀਆ ॥ toon bhogee andar bhogeea | among pleasure seekers, You are the Pleasure Seeker. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੁਰਗਿ ਮਛਿ ਪਇਆਲਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ teraa ant na paaeaa surag machh peaal jeeo |1| Your limits are not known to any of the beings in the heavens, in this world, or in the nether regions of the underworld. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਉ ਵਾਰਣੈ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਵ ਨੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ hau vaaree hau vaaranai kurabaan tere naav no |1| rahaau | I am devoted, dedicated, a sacrifice to Your Name. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤੁਧੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥ tudh sansaar upaaeaa | You created the world, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਿਰੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਧੰਧੇ ਲਾਇਆ ॥ sire sir dhandhe laaeaa | and assigned tasks to one and all. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਵੇਖਹਿ ਕੀਤਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਪਾਸਾ ਢਾਲਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥ vekheh keetaa aapanaa kar kudarat paasaa dtaal jeeo |2| You watch over Your Creation, and through Your All-powerful Creative Potency, You cast the dice. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪਰਗਟਿ ਪਾਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਪਦਾ ॥ paragatt paahaarai jaapadaa | You are manifest in the Expanse of Your Workshop. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਭੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਨੋ ਪਰਤਾਪਦਾ ॥ sabh naavai no parataapadaa | Everyone longs for Your Name, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਸਭ ਮੋਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾਲਿ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥ satigur baajh na paaeo sabh mohee maaeaa jaal jeeo |3| but without the Guru, no one finds You. All are enticed and trapped by Maya. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ ॥ satigur kau bal jaaeeai | I am a sacrifice to the True Guru. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਿਤੁ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ jit miliai param gat paaeeai | Meeting Him, the supreme status is obtained. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
