ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਕੀਮ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥ satigur sev gun nidhaan paaeaa tis kee keem na paaee | Serving the True Guru, I have found the Treasure of Excellence. Its value cannot be estimated. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਖਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੩॥ prabh sakhaa har jeeo meraa ante hoe sakhaaee |3| The Dear Lord God is my Best Friend. In the end, He shall be my Companion and Support. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥ peeearrai jagajeevan daataa manamukh pat gavaaee | In this world of my father’s home, the Great Giver is the Life of the World. The self-willed manmukhs have lost their honor. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੋ ਮਗੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਅੰਧੇ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥ bin satigur ko mag na jaanai andhe tthaur na kaaee | Without the True Guru, no one knows the Way. The blind find no place of rest. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਵਸਿਆ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਈ ॥੪॥ har sukhadaataa man nahee vasiaa ant geaa pachhutaaee |4| If the Lord, the Giver of Peace, does not dwell within the mind, then they shall depart with regret in the end. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥ peeearrai jagajeevan daataa guramat man vasaaeaa | In this world of my father’s house, through the Guru’s Teachings, I have cultivated within my mind the Great Giver, the Life of the World. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥ anadin bhagat kareh din raatee haumai mohu chukaaeaa | Night and day, performing devotional worship, day and night, ego and emotional attachment are removed. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਤਾ ਤੈਸੋ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੫॥ jis siau raataa taiso hovai sache sach samaaeaa |5| And then, attuned to Him, we become like Him, truly absorbed in the True One. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਭਾਉ ਲਾਏ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ aape nadar kare bhaau laae gurasabadee beechaar | Bestowing His Glance of Grace, He gives us His Love, and we contemplate the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸਹਜੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮਾਰਿ ॥ satigur seviai sehaj aoopajai haumai trisanaa maar | Serving the True Guru, intuitive peace wells up, and ego and desire die. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਸਦ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਚੁ ਰਖਿਆ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੬॥ har gunadaataa sad man vasai sach rakhiaa ur dhaar |6| The Lord, the Giver of Virtue, dwells forever within the minds of those who keep Truth enshrined within their hearts. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਮਨਿ ਨਿਰਮਲਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥ prabh meraa sadaa niramalaa man niramal paaeaa jaae | My God is forever Immaculate and Pure; with a pure mind, He can be found. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ naam nidhaan har man vasai haumai dukh sabh jaae | If the Treasure of the Name of the Lord abides within the mind, egotism and pain are totally eliminated. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥੭॥ satigur sabad sunaaeaa hau sad balihaarai jaau |7| The True Guru has instructed me in the Word of the Shabad. I am forever a sacrifice to Him. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪਣੈ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਾਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ aapanai man chit kahai kahaae bin gur aap na jaaee | Within your own conscious mind, you may say anything, but without the Guru, selfishness and conceit are not eradicated. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥ har jeeo bhagat vachhal sukhadaataa kar kirapaa man vasaaee | The Dear Lord is the Lover of His devotees, the Giver of Peace. By His Grace, He abides within the mind. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋਭਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਦੇਇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੮॥੧॥੧੮॥ naanak sobhaa surat dee prabh aape guramukh de vaddiaaee |8|1|18| O Nanak, God blesses us with the sublime awakening of consciousness; He Himself grants glorious greatness to the Gurmukh. ||8||1||18|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਜਮਡੰਡੁ ਲਗੈ ਤਿਨ ਆਇ ॥ haumai karam kamaavade jamaddandd lagai tin aae | Those who go around acting in egotism are struck down by the Messenger of Death with his club. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ji satigur sevan se ubare har setee liv laae |1| Those who serve the True Guru are uplifted and saved, in love with the Lord. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨ ਰੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥ man re guramukh naam dhiaae | O mind, become Gurmukh, and meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਧੁਰਿ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨਾ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ dhur poorab karatai likhiaa tinaa guramat naam samaae |1| rahaau | Those who are so pre-destined by the Creator are absorbed into the Naam, through the Guru’s Teachings. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਾਗੋ ਭਾਉ ॥ vin satigur parateet na aavee naam na laago bhaau | Without the True Guru, faith does not come, and love for the Naam is not embraced. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੁਪਨੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਈ ਦੁਖ ਮਹਿ ਸਵੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥ supanai sukh na paavee dukh meh savai samaae |2| Even in dreams, they find no peace; they sleep immersed in pain. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਚੈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਲੋਚੀਐ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਮੇਟਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥ je har har keechai bahut locheeai kirat na mettiaa jaae | Even if you chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, with great longing, your past actions are still not erased. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਪਏ ਦਰਿ ਥਾਇ ॥੩॥ har kaa bhaanaa bhagatee maniaa se bhagat pe dar thaae |3| The Lord’s devotees surrender to His Will; those devotees are accepted at His Door. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਦਿੜਾਵੈ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਲਇਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ gur sabad dirraavai rang siau bin kirapaa leaa na jaae | The Guru has lovingly implanted the Word of His Shabad within me. Without His Grace, it cannot be attained. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੇ ਸਉ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨੀਰੀਐ ਭੀ ਬਿਖੁ ਫਲੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਧਾਇ ॥੪॥ je sau amrit neereeai bhee bikh fal laagai dhaae |4| Even if the poisonous plant is watered with ambrosial nectar a hundred times, it will still bear poisonous fruit. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਚੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਜਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ se jan sache niramale jin satigur naal piaar | Those humble beings who are in love with the True Guru are pure and true. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਬਿਖੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਤਜਿ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥੫॥ satigur kaa bhaanaa kamaavade bikh haumai taj vikaar |5| They act in harmony with the Will of the True Guru; they shed the poison of ego and corruption. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਿਤੈ ਉਪਾਇ ਨ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੋਧਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ manahatth kitai upaae na chhootteeai simrit saasatr sodhahu jaae | Acting in stubborn-mindedness, no one is saved; go and study the Simritees and the Shaastras. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਉਬਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੬॥ mil sangat saadhoo ubare gur kaa sabad kamaae |6| Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and practicing the Shabads of the Guru, you shall be saved. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥ har kaa naam nidhaan hai jis ant na paaraavaar | The Name of the Lord is the Treasure, which has no end or limitation. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਈ ਸੋਹਦੇ ਜਿਨ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥੭॥ guramukh seee sohade jin kirapaa kare karataar |7| The Gurmukhs are beauteous; the Creator has blessed them with His Mercy. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਤਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਉਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ naanak daataa ek hai doojaa aaur na koe | O Nanak, the One Lord alone is the Giver; there is no other at all. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੮॥੨॥੧੯॥ gur parasaadee paaeeai karam paraapat hoe |8|2|19| By Guru’s Grace, He is obtained. By His Mercy, He is found. ||8||2||19|| - Guru Amardas Ji
