ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਸਾਚੋ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੫॥ tribhavan so prabh jaaneeai saacho saachai naae |5| God is known throughout the three worlds. True is the Name of the True One. ||5|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਾ ਧਨ ਖਰੀ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਸੰਗਿ ॥ saa dhan kharee suhaavanee jin pir jaataa sang | The wife who knows that her Husband Lord is always with her is very beautiful. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਹਲੀ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਈਐ ਸੋ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵੇ ਰੰਗਿ ॥ mahalee mehal bulaaeeai so pir raave rang | The soul-bride is called to the Mansion of the His Presence, and her Husband Lord ravishes her with love. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਚਿ ਸੁਹਾਗਣਿ ਸਾ ਭਲੀ ਪਿਰਿ ਮੋਹੀ ਗੁਣ ਸੰਗਿ ॥੬॥ sach suhaagan saa bhalee pir mohee gun sang |6| The happy soul-bride is true and good; she is fascinated by the Glories of her Husband Lord. ||6|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਭੂਲੀ ਭੂਲੀ ਥਲਿ ਚੜਾ ਥਲਿ ਚੜਿ ਡੂਗਰਿ ਜਾਉ ॥ bhoolee bhoolee thal charraa thal charr ddoogar jaau | Wandering around and making mistakes, I climb the plateau; having climbed the plateau, I go up the mountain. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਬਨ ਮਹਿ ਭੂਲੀ ਜੇ ਫਿਰਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਉ ॥ ban meh bhoolee je firaa bin gur boojh na paau | But now I have lost my way, and I am wandering around in the forest; without the Guru, I do not understand. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਵਹੁ ਭੂਲੀ ਜੇ ਫਿਰਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵਉ ਜਾਉ ॥੭॥ naavahu bhoolee je firaa fir fir aavau jaau |7| If I wander around forgetting God’s Name, I shall continue coming and going in reincarnation, over and over again. ||7|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪੁਛਹੁ ਜਾਇ ਪਧਾਊਆ ਚਲੇ ਚਾਕਰ ਹੋਇ ॥ puchhahu jaae padhaaooaa chale chaakar hoe | Go and ask the travellers, how to walk on the Path as His slave. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਰਾਜਨੁ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਦਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਠਾਕ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ raajan jaaneh aapanaa dar ghar tthaak na hoe | They know the Lord to be their King, and at the Door to His Home, their way is not blocked. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੋ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੮॥੬॥ naanak eko rav rahiaa doojaa avar na koe |8|6| O Nanak, the One is pervading everywhere; there is no other at all. ||8||6|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਦੇਹ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥ gur te niramal jaaneeai niramal deh sareer | Through the Guru, the Pure One is known, and the human body becomes pure as well. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਾਚੋ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਅਭ ਪੀਰ ॥ niramal saacho man vasai so jaanai abh peer | The Pure, True Lord abides within the mind; He knows the pain of our hearts. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਹਜੈ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਅਗਲੋ ਨਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਜਮ ਤੀਰੁ ॥੧॥ sahajai te sukh agalo naa laagai jam teer |1| With intuitive ease, a great peace is found, and the arrow of death shall not strike you. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਮੈਲੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜਲਿ ਨਾਇ ॥ bhaaee re mail naahee niramal jal naae | O Siblings of Destiny, filth is washed away by bathing in the Pure Water of the Name. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਏਕੁ ਤੂ ਹੋਰੁ ਮੈਲੁ ਭਰੀ ਸਭ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ niramal saachaa ek too hor mail bharee sabh jaae |1| rahaau | You alone are Perfectly Pure, O True Lord; all other places are filled with filth. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਕੀਆ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰਿ ॥ har kaa mandar sohanaa keea karanaihaar | The Temple of the Lord is beautiful; it was made by the Creator Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਰਵਿ ਸਸਿ ਦੀਪ ਅਨੂਪ ਜੋਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਅਪਾਰ ॥ rav sas deep anoop jot tribhavan jot apaar | The sun and the moon are lamps of incomparably beautiful light. Throughout the three worlds, the Infinite Light is pervading. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਾਟ ਪਟਣ ਗੜ ਕੋਠੜੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਉਦਾ ਵਾਪਾਰ ॥੨॥ haatt pattan garr kottharree sach saudaa vaapaar |2| In the shops of the city of the body, in the fortresses and in the huts, the True Merchandise is traded. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨਾ ਦੇਖੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਭਾਇ ॥ giaan anjan bhai bhanjanaa dekh niranjan bhaae | The ointment of spiritual wisdom is the destroyer of fear; through love, the Pure One is seen. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਗੁਪਤੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਸਭ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਜੇ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਠਾਇ ॥ gupat pragatt sabh jaaneeai je man raakhai tthaae | The mysteries of the seen and the unseen are all known, if the mind is kept centered and balanced. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਐਸਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੩॥ aisaa satigur je milai taa sahaje le milaae |3| If one finds such a True Guru, the Lord is met with intuitive ease. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਸਿ ਕਸਵਟੀ ਲਾਈਐ ਪਰਖੇ ਹਿਤੁ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥ kas kasavattee laaeeai parakhe hit chit laae | He draws us to His Touchstone, to test our love and consciousness. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਖੋਟੇ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਇਨੀ ਖਰੇ ਖਜਾਨੈ ਪਾਇ ॥ khotte tthaur na paaeinee khare khajaanai paae | The counterfeit have no place there, but the genuine are placed in His Treasury. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਸ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਇਉ ਮਲੁ ਜਾਇ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥ aas andesaa door kar iau mal jaae samaae |4| Let your hopes and anxieties depart; thus pollution is washed away. ||4|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸੁਖ ਕਉ ਮਾਗੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਮਾਗੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ sukh kau maagai sabh ko dukh na maagai koe | Everyone begs for happiness; no one asks for suffering. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸੁਖੈ ਕਉ ਦੁਖੁ ਅਗਲਾ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ sukhai kau dukh agalaa manamukh boojh na hoe | But in the wake of happiness, there comes great suffering. The self-willed manmukhs do not understand this. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੀਅਹਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਭੇਦਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥ sukh dukh sam kar jaaneeeh sabad bhed sukh hoe |5| Those who see pain and pleasure as one and the same find peace; they are pierced through by the Shabad. ||5|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਬੇਦੁ ਪੁਕਾਰੇ ਵਾਚੀਐ ਬਾਣੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਿਆਸੁ ॥ bed pukaare vaacheeai baanee braham biaas | The Vedas proclaim, and the words of Vyaasa tell us, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਾਧਿਕਾ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ॥ mun jan sevak saadhikaa naam rate gunataas | that the silent sages, the servants of the Lord, and those who practice a life of spiritual discipline are attuned to the Naam, the Treasure of Excellence. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਜਿਣਿ ਗਏ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਸੁ ॥੬॥ sach rate se jin ge hau sad balihaarai jaas |6| Those who are attuned to the True Name win the game of life; I am forever a sacrifice to them. ||6|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗਿ ਮੈਲੇ ਮਲੁ ਭਰੇ ਜਿਨ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ chahu jug maile mal bhare jin mukh naam na hoe | Those who do not have the Naam in their mouths are filled with pollution; they are filthy throughout the four ages. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਭਗਤੀ ਭਾਇ ਵਿਹੂਣਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਕਾਲਾ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥ bhagatee bhaae vihooniaa muhu kaalaa pat khoe | Without loving devotion to God, their faces are blackened, and their honor is lost. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਅਵਗਣ ਮੁਠੀ ਰੋਇ ॥੭॥ jinee naam visaariaa avagan mutthee roe |7| Those who have forgotten the Naam are plundered by evil; they weep and wail in dismay. ||7|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਪਾਇਆ ਡਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥ khojat khojat paaeaa ddar kar milai milaae | I searched and searched, and found God. In the Fear of God, I have been united in His Union. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਘਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਾਇ ॥ aap pachhaanai ghar vasai haumai trisanaa jaae | Through self-realization, people dwell within the home of their inner being; egotism and desire depart. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਊਜਲੇ ਜੋ ਰਾਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥੮॥੭॥ naanak niramal aoojale jo raate har naae |8|7| O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Name of the Lord are immaculate and radiant. ||8||7|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂ ਜਮੁ ਡਰਪੈ ਦੁਖ ਭਾਗੁ ॥ har jap naam dhiaae too jam ddarapai dukh bhaag | Chant and meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; death will be afraid of you, and suffering shall depart. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਦੂਖੁ ਘਣੋ ਦੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਕਿਉ ਥਿਰੁ ਰਹੈ ਸੁਹਾਗੁ ॥੧॥ dookh ghano dohaaganee kiau thir rahai suhaag |1| The deserted wife suffers terrible pain. How can her Husband Lord remain with her forever? ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
