ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ਮਸਕਤੇ ਤੂਠੈ ਪਾਵਾ ਦੇਵ ॥ saadhoo sang masakate tootthai paavaa dev | The opportunity to work hard serving the Saadh Sangat is obtained, when the Divine Lord is pleased. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਸਾਹਿਬੈ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਣ ਕਰੇਵ ॥ sabh kichh vasagat saahibai aape karan karev | Everything is in the Hands of our Lord and Master; He Himself is the Doer of deeds. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ ਮਨਸਾ ਸਭ ਪੂਰੇਵ ॥੩॥ satigur kai balihaaranai manasaa sabh poorev |3| I am a sacrifice to the True Guru, who fulfills all hopes and desires. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਇਕੋ ਦਿਸੈ ਸਜਣੋ ਇਕੋ ਭਾਈ ਮੀਤੁ ॥ eiko disai sajano iko bhaaee meet | The One appears to be my Companion; the One is my Brother and Friend. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਇਕਸੈ ਦੀ ਸਾਮਗਰੀ ਇਕਸੈ ਦੀ ਹੈ ਰੀਤਿ ॥ eikasai dee saamagaree ikasai dee hai reet | The elements and the components are all made by the One; they are held in their order by the One. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਇਕਸ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਤਾ ਹੋਆ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਚੀਤੁ ॥ eikas siau man maaniaa taa hoaa nihachal cheet | When the mind accepts, and is satisfied with the One, then the consciousness becomes steady and stable. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਚੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਪੈਨਣਾ ਟੇਕ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਕੀਤੁ ॥੪॥੫॥੭੫॥ sach khaanaa sach painanaa ttek naanak sach keet |4|5|75| Then, one’s food is the True Name, one’s garments are the True Name, and one’s Support, O Nanak, is the True Name. ||4||5||75|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਸਫਲੁ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਥਿ ॥ janam padaarath safal hai je sachaa sabad kath | The precious gift of this human life becomes fruitful when one chants the True Word of the Shabad. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਰਾਪਤੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਵੈ ਮਥਿ ॥੧॥ gur te mehal paraapate jis likhiaa hovai math |1| One who has such destiny written on his forehead enters the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence, through the Guru. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਏਕਸ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥ mere man ekas siau chit laae | O my mind, focus your consciousness on the One. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਏਕਸ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਭ ਧੰਧੁ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ekas bin sabh dhandh hai sabh mithiaa mohu maae |1| rahaau | Without the One, all entanglements are worthless; emotional attachment to Maya is totally false. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਲਖ ਖੁਸੀਆ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੀਆ ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥ lakh khuseea paatisaaheea je satigur nadar karee | Hundreds of thousands of princely pleasures are enjoyed, if the True Guru bestows His Glance of Grace. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਿਮਖ ਏਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ nimakh ek har naam dee meraa man tan seetal hoe | If He bestows the Name of the Lord, for even a moment, my mind and body are cooled and soothed. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚਰਨ ਗਹੇ ॥੨॥ jis kau poorab likhiaa tin satigur charan gahe |2| Those who have such pre-ordained destiny hold tight to the Feet of the True Guru. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਫਲ ਮੂਰਤੁ ਸਫਲਾ ਘੜੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ safal moorat safalaa gharree jit sache naal piaar | Fruitful is that moment, and fruitful is that time, when one is in love with the True Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੂਖੁ ਸੰਤਾਪੁ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਜਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥ dookh santaap na lagee jis har kaa naam adhaar | Suffering and sorrow do not touch those who have the Support of the Name of the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਾਹ ਪਕੜਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਕਾਢਿਆ ਸੋਈ ਉਤਰਿਆ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੩॥ baah pakarr gur kaadtiaa soee utariaa paar |3| Grasping him by the arm, the Guru lifts them up and out, and carries them across to the other side. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਥਾਨੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਾ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਥੈ ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ॥ thaan suhaavaa pavit hai jithai sant sabhaa | Embellished and immaculate is that place where the Saints gather together. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਢੋਈ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਨੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਲਭਾ ॥ dtoee tis hee no milai jin pooraa guroo labhaa | He alone finds shelter, who has met the Perfect Guru. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਧਾ ਘਰੁ ਤਹਾਂ ਜਿਥੈ ਮਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਜਰਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੭੬॥ naanak badhaa ghar tahaan jithai mirat na janam jaraa |4|6|76| Nanak builds his house upon that site where there is no death, no birth, and no old age. ||4||6||76|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਸੋਈ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਜੀਅੜੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਾਹਾਂ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ॥ soee dhiaaeeai jeearre sir saahaan paatisaahu | Meditate on Him, O my soul; He is the Supreme Lord over kings and emperors. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਕੀ ਕਰਿ ਆਸ ਮਨ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਭਸੁ ਵੇਸਾਹੁ ॥ tis hee kee kar aas man jis kaa sabhas vesaahu | Place the hopes of your mind in the One, in whom all have faith. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਭਿ ਸਿਆਣਪਾ ਛਡਿ ਕੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਚਰਣੀ ਪਾਹੁ ॥੧॥ sabh siaanapaa chhadd kai gur kee charanee paahu |1| Give up all your clever tricks, and grasp the Feet of the Guru. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜ ਸੇਤੀ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਉ ॥ man mere sukh sehaj setee jap naau | O my mind, chant the Name with intuitive peace and poise. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਇੰਦ ਨਿਤ ਗਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ aatth pehar prabh dhiaae toon gun goeind nit gaau |1| rahaau | Twenty-four hours a day, meditate on God. Constantly sing the Glories of the Lord of the Universe. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਸਰਨੀ ਪਰੁ ਮਨਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ tis kee saranee par manaa jis jevadd avar na koe | Seek His Shelter, O my mind; there is no other as Great as He. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ਘਣਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਨ ਮੂਲੇ ਹੋਇ ॥ jis simarat sukh hoe ghanaa dukh darad na moole hoe | Remembering Him in meditation, a profound peace is obtained. Pain and suffering will not touch you at all. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਰਿ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥ sadaa sadaa kar chaakaree prabh saahib sachaa soe |2| Forever and ever, work for God; He is our True Lord and Master. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਕਟੀਐ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸ ॥ saadhasangat hoe niramalaa katteeai jam kee faas | In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you shall become absolutely pure, and the noose of death shall be cut away. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਕਰਿ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥ sukhadaataa bhai bhanjano tis aagai kar aradaas | So offer your prayers to Him, the Giver of Peace, the Destroyer of fear. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨੁ ਤਾਂ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਆਵੈ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੩॥ mihar kare jis miharavaan taan kaaraj aavai raas |3| Showing His Mercy, the Merciful Master shall resolve your affairs. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਹੁਤੋ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਵਖਾਣੀਐ ਊਚੋ ਊਚਾ ਥਾਉ ॥ bahuto bahut vakhaaneeai aoocho aoochaa thaau | The Lord is said to be the Greatest of the Great; His Kingdom is the Highest of the High. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਵਰਨਾ ਚਿਹਨਾ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਾਉ ॥ varanaa chihanaa baaharaa keemat keh na sakaau | He has no color or mark; His Value cannot be estimated. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਅਪੁਣਾ ਨਾਉ ॥੪॥੭॥੭੭॥ naanak kau prabh meaa kar sach devahu apunaa naau |4|7|77| Please show Mercy to Nanak, God, and bless him with Your True Name. ||4||7||77|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਸਭਨੀ ਲੋਇ ॥ poore gur te paaeeai paragatt sabhanee loe | Obtaining it from the Perfect Guru, he is honored all over the world. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
