ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥ sireeraag mahalaa 4 | Siree Raag, Fourth Mehl: - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਉ ਪੰਥੁ ਦਸਾਈ ਨਿਤ ਖੜੀ ਕੋਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦਸੇ ਤਿਨਿ ਜਾਉ ॥ hau panth dasaaee nit kharree koee prabh dase tin jaau | I stand by the wayside and ask the Way. If only someone would show me the Way to God-I would go with him. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਿਨੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਰਾਵਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਪੀਛੈ ਲਾਗਿ ਫਿਰਾਉ ॥ jinee meraa piaaraa raaviaa tin peechhai laag firaau | I follow in the footsteps of those who enjoy the Love of my Beloved. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਕਰਿ ਮਿੰਨਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਜੋਦੜੀ ਮੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਿਲਣੈ ਕਾ ਚਾਉ ॥੧॥ kar minat kar jodarree mai prabh milanai kaa chaau |1| I beg of them, I implore them; I have such a yearning to meet God! ||1|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ਜਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥ mere bhaaee janaa koee mo kau har prabh mel milaae | O my Siblings of Destiny, please unite me in Union with my Lord God. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦੀਆ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ hau satigur vittahu vaariaa jin har prabh deea dikhaae |1| rahaau | I am a sacrifice to the True Guru, who has shown me the Lord God. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹੋਇ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਢਹਿ ਪਵਾ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਾਸਿ ॥ hoe nimaanee dteh pavaa poore satigur paas | In deep humility, I fall at the Feet of the Perfect True Guru. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਨਿਮਾਣਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਮਾਣੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥ nimaaniaa gur maan hai gur satigur kare saabaas | The Guru is the Honor of the dishonored. The Guru, the True Guru, brings approval and applause. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਨ ਰਜਊ ਮੈ ਮੇਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੨॥ hau gur saalaeh na rjaoo mai mele har prabh paas |2| I am never tired of praising the Guru, who unites me with the Lord God. ||2|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨੋ ਸਭ ਕੋ ਲੋਚਦਾ ਜੇਤਾ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥ satigur no sabh ko lochadaa jetaa jagat sabh koe | Everyone, all over the world, longs for the True Guru. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਭਾਗਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਨਾ ਥੀਐ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਬਹਿ ਰੋਇ ॥ bin bhaagaa darasan naa theeai bhaagaheen beh roe | Without the good fortune of destiny, the Blessed Vision of His Darshan is not obtained. The unfortunate ones just sit and cry. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਣਾ ਸੋ ਥੀਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੩॥ jo har prabh bhaanaa so theea dhur likhiaa na mettai koe |3| All things happen according to the Will of the Lord God. No one can erase the pre-ordained Writ of Destiny. ||3|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਆਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥ aape satigur aap har aape mel milaae | He Himself is the True Guru; He Himself is the Lord. He Himself unites in His Union. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਮੇਲਸੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੀਛੈ ਪਾਇ ॥ aap deaa kar melasee gur satigur peechhai paae | In His Kindness, He unites us with Himself, as we follow the Guru, the True Guru. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਭੁ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਜਗਿ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਲੁ ਜਲਹਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੪॥੬੮॥ sabh jagajeevan jag aap hai naanak jal jaleh samaae |4|4|68| Over all the world, He is the Life of the World, O Nanak, like water mingled with water. ||4||4||68|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਰਸੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਸੁ ਅਤਿ ਭਲਾ ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਰਸੁ ਖਾਇ ॥ ras amrit naam ras at bhalaa kit bidh milai ras khaae | The Essence of the Ambrosial Naam is the most sublime essence; how can I get to taste this essence? - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਾਇ ਪੁਛਹੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਤੁਸਾ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਇ ॥ jaae puchhahu sohaaganee tusaa kiau kar miliaa prabh aae | I go and ask the happy soul-brides, “How did you come to meet God?” - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਓਇ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹ ਨ ਬੋਲਨੀ ਹਉ ਮਲਿ ਮਲਿ ਧੋਵਾ ਤਿਨ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ oe veparavaah na bolanee hau mal mal dhovaa tin paae |1| They are care-free and do not speak; I massage and wash their feet. ||1|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਜਣ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰਿ ॥ bhaaee re mil sajan har gun saar | O Siblings of Destiny, meet with your spiritual friend, and dwell upon the Glorious Praises of the Lord. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਜਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਢੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ sajan satigur purakh hai dukh kadtai haumai maar |1| rahaau | The True Guru, the Primal Being, is your Friend, who shall drive out pain and subdue your ego. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀਆ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਤਿਨ ਦਇਆ ਪਈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥ guramukheea sohaaganee tin deaa pee man aae | The Gurmukhs are the happy soul-brides; their minds are filled with kindness. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਚਨੁ ਰਤੰਨੁ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮੰਨੇ ਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਖਾਇ ॥ satigur vachan ratan hai jo mane su har ras khaae | The Word of the True Guru is the Jewel. One who believes in it tastes the Sublime Essence of the Lord. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਵਡ ਜਾਣੀਅਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਖਾਧਾ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥੨॥ se vaddabhaagee vadd jaaneeeh jin har ras khaadhaa gur bhaae |2| Those who partake of the Lord’s Sublime Essence, through the Guru’s Love, are known as great and very fortunate. ||2|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਇਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਵਣਿ ਤਿਣਿ ਸਭਤੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਨਹੀ ਖਾਇ ॥ eihu har ras van tin sabhat hai bhaagaheen nahee khaae | This Sublime Essence of the Lord is in the forests, in the fields and everywhere, but the unfortunate ones do not taste it. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਲੈ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਰਹੇ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ॥ bin satigur palai naa pavai manamukh rahe bilalaae | Without the True Guru, it is not obtained. The self-willed manmukhs continue to cry in misery. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਓਇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਨਾ ਨਿਵਹਿ ਓਨਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਬਲਾਇ ॥੩॥ oe satigur aagai naa niveh onaa antar krodh balaae |3| They do not bow before the True Guru; the demon of anger is within them. ||3|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ har har har ras aap hai aape har ras hoe | The Lord Himself, Har, Har, Har, is the Sublime Essence. The Lord Himself is the Essence. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਵਸੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਚੋਇ ॥ aap deaa kar devasee guramukh amrit choe | In His Kindness, He blesses the Gurmukh with it; the Ambrosial Nectar of this Amrit trickles down. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਭੁ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੫॥੬੯॥ sabh tan man hariaa hoeaa naanak har vasiaa man soe |4|5|69| Then, the body and mind totally blossom forth and flourish; O Nanak, the Lord comes to dwell within the mind. ||4||5||69|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਦਿਨਸੁ ਚੜੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਥਵੈ ਰੈਣਿ ਸਬਾਈ ਜਾਇ ॥ dinas charrai fir aathavai rain sabaaee jaae | The day dawns, and then it ends, and the night passes away. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਆਵ ਘਟੈ ਨਰੁ ਨਾ ਬੁਝੈ ਨਿਤਿ ਮੂਸਾ ਲਾਜੁ ਟੁਕਾਇ ॥ aav ghattai nar naa bujhai nit moosaa laaj ttukaae | Man’s life is diminishing, but he does not understand. Each day, the mouse of death is gnawing away at the rope of life. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਗੁੜੁ ਮਿਠਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਲਗਿ ਮਾਖੀ ਪਚੈ ਪਚਾਇ ॥੧॥ gurr mitthaa maaeaa pasariaa manamukh lag maakhee pachai pachaae |1| Maya spreads out like sweet molasses; the self-willed manmukh is stuck like a fly, rotting away. ||1|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਮੈ ਮੀਤੁ ਸਖਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥ bhaaee re mai meet sakhaa prabh soe | O Siblings of Destiny, God is my Friend and Companion. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਪੁਤੁ ਕਲਤੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਹੈ ਅੰਤਿ ਬੇਲੀ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ put kalat mohu bikh hai ant belee koe na hoe |1| rahaau | Emotional attachment to children and spouse is poison; in the end, no one will go along with you as your helper. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਉਬਰੇ ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਰਹੇ ਸਰਣਾਇ ॥ guramat har liv ubare alipat rahe saranaae | Through the Guru’s Teachings, some embrace love for the Lord, and are saved. They remain detached and unaffected, and they find the Sanctuary of the Lord. - Guru Ramdas Ji
