ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਮਨਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ bin satigur kinai na paaeo kar vekhahu man veechaar | Without the True Guru, no one has found Him; reflect upon this in your mind and see. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਜਿਚਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਕਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੧॥ manamukh mail na utarai jichar gur sabad na kare piaar |1| The filth of the self-willed manmukhs is not washed off; they have no love for the Guru’s Shabad. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਚਲੁ ॥ man mere satigur kai bhaanai chal | O my mind, walk in harmony with the True Guru. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵਹਿ ਤਾ ਸੁਖ ਲਹਹਿ ਮਹਲੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ nij ghar vaseh amrit peeveh taa sukh laheh mehal |1| rahaau | Dwell within the home of your own inner being, and drink in the Ambrosial Nectar; you shall attain the Peace of the Mansion of His Presence. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਉਗੁਣਵੰਤੀ ਗੁਣੁ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਬਹਣਿ ਨ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥ aaugunavantee gun ko nahee behan na milai hadoor | The unvirtuous have no merit; they are not allowed to sit in His Presence. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਅਵਗਣਿ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦੂਰਿ ॥ manamukh sabad na jaanee avagan so prabh door | The self-willed manmukhs do not know the Shabad; those without virtue are far removed from God. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਨੀ ਸਚੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥ jinee sach pachhaaniaa sach rate bharapoor | Those who recognize the True One are permeated and attuned to Truth. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਪਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੨॥ gurasabadee man bedhiaa prabh miliaa aap hadoor |2| Their minds are pierced through by the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, and God Himself ushers them into His Presence. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਰੰਗਣਿ ਰੰਗਿਓਨੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਲਇਓਨੁ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥ aape rangan rangion sabade leon milaae | He Himself dyes us in the Color of His Love; through the Word of His Shabad, He unites us with Himself. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਜੋ ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥ sachaa rang na utarai jo sach rate liv laae | This True Color shall not fade away, for those who are attuned to His Love. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਭਵਿ ਥਕੇ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥ chaare kunddaa bhav thake manamukh boojh na paae | The self-willed manmukhs grow weary of wandering around in all four directions, but they do not understand. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥ jis satigur mele so milai sachai sabad samaae |3| One who is united with the True Guru, meets and merges in the True Word of the Shabad. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਘਣੇਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਥਕੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਾਟੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ mitr ghanere kar thakee meraa dukh kaattai koe | I have grown weary of making so many friends, hoping that someone might be able to end my suffering. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਟਿਆ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ mil preetam dukh kattiaa sabad milaavaa hoe | Meeting with my Beloved, my suffering has ended; I have attained Union with the Word of the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੁ ਖਟਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਰਾਸਿ ਹੈ ਸਚੇ ਸਚੀ ਸੋਇ ॥ sach khattanaa sach raas hai sache sachee soe | Earning Truth, and accumulating the Wealth of Truth, the truthful person gains a reputation of Truth. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੨੬॥੫੯॥ sach mile se na vichhurreh naanak guramukh hoe |4|26|59| Meeting with the True One, O Nanak, the Gurmukh shall not be separated from Him again. ||4||26||59|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਪੇ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਇ ॥ aape kaaran karataa kare srisatt dekhai aap upaae | The Creator Himself created the Creation; He produced the Universe, and He Himself watches over it. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਭ ਏਕੋ ਇਕੁ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਲਖਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥ sabh eko ik varatadaa alakh na lakhiaa jaae | The One and Only Lord is pervading and permeating all. The Unseen cannot be seen. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਝਾਇ ॥ aape prabhoo deaal hai aape dee bujhaae | God Himself is Merciful; He Himself bestows understanding. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਦ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ guramatee sad man vasiaa sach rahe liv laae |1| Through the Guru’s Teachings, the True One dwells forever in the mind of those who remain lovingly attached to Him. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਲੈ ਰਜਾਇ ॥ man mere gur kee man lai rajaae | O my mind, surrender to the Guru’s Will. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸਭੁ ਥੀਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ man tan seetal sabh theeai naam vasai man aae |1| rahaau | Mind and body are totally cooled and soothed, and the Naam comes to dwell in the mind. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਧਾਰਿਆ ਸੋਈ ਸਾਰ ਕਰੇਇ ॥ jin kar kaaran dhaariaa soee saar karee | Having created the creation, He supports it and takes care of it. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਜਾ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥ gur kai sabad pachhaaneeai jaa aape nadar karee | The Word of the Guru’s Shabad is realized, when He Himself bestows His Glance of Grace. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਬਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਤਿਤੁ ਸਚੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥ se jan sabade sohane tith sachai darabaar | Those who are beautifully adorned with the Shabad in the Court of the True Lord - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਆਪਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥੨॥ guramukh sachai sabad rate aap mele karataar |2| -those Gurmukhs are attuned to the True Word of the Shabad; the Creator unites them with Himself. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹਣਾ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥ guramatee sach salaahanaa jis daa ant na paaraavaar | Through the Guru’s Teachings, praise the True One, who has no end or limitation. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਵਸੈ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਕਰੇ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ ghatt ghatt aape hukam vasai hukame kare beechaar | He dwells in each and every heart, by the Hukam of His Command; by His Hukam, we contemplate Him. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਖੋਇ ॥ gurasabadee saalaaheeai haumai vichahu khoe | So praise Him through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, and drive out egotism from within. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਾ ਧਨ ਨਾਵੈ ਬਾਹਰੀ ਅਵਗਣਵੰਤੀ ਰੋਇ ॥੩॥ saa dhan naavai baaharee avaganavantee roe |3| That soul-bride who lacks the Lord’s Name acts without virtue, and so she grieves. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹੀ ਸਚਿ ਲਗਾ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ sach salaahee sach lagaa sachai naae tripat hoe | Praising the True One, attached to the True One, I am satisfied with the True Name. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਣ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਗੁਣ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹਾ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਕਢਾ ਧੋਇ ॥ gun veechaaree gun sangrahaa avagun kadtaa dhoe | Contemplating His Virtues, I accumulate virtue and merit; I wash myself clean of demerits. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਵੇਛੋੜਾ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ aape mel milaaeidaa fir vechhorraa na hoe | He Himself unites us in His Union; there is no more separation. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਿਦੂ ਪਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੨੭॥੬੦॥ naanak gur saalaahee aapanaa jidoo paaee prabh soe |4|27|60| O Nanak, I sing the Praises of my Guru; through Him, I find that God. ||4||27||60|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਕਾਮ ਗਹੇਲੀਏ ਕਿਆ ਚਲਹਿ ਬਾਹ ਲੁਡਾਇ ॥ sun sun kaam gahelee kiaa chaleh baah luddaae | Listen, listen, O soul-bride: you are overtaken by sexual desire-why do you walk like that, swinging your arms in joy? - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪਣਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣਹੀ ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਦੇਸਹਿ ਜਾਇ ॥ aapanaa pir na pachhaanahee kiaa muhu deseh jaae | You do not recognize your own Husband Lord! When you go to Him, what face will you show Him? - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਨੀ ਸਖਂੀ ਕੰਤੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥ jinee sakhanee kant pachhaaniaa hau tin kai laagau paae | I touch the feet of my sister soul-brides who have known their Husband Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਜੈਸੀ ਥੀ ਰਹਾ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ tin hee jaisee thee rahaa satasangat mel milaae |1| If only I could be like them! Joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, I am united in His Union. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
