ਮਨਮੁਖ ਜਨਮੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਗਇਆ ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਦੇਸੀ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥ manamukh janam birathaa geaa kiaa muhu desee jaae |3| The life of the self-willed manmukh passes uselessly. What face will he show when he passes beyond? ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ sabh kichh aape aap hai haumai vich kehan na jaae | God Himself is everything; those who are in their ego cannot even speak of this. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਦੁਖੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥ gur kai sabad pachhaaneeai dukh haumai vichahu gavaae | Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, He is realized, and the pain of egotism is eradicated from within. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥ satagur sevan aapanaa hau tin kai laagau paae | I fall at the feet of those who serve their True Guru. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਚਿਆਰ ਹਹਿ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥੪॥੨੧॥੫੪॥ naanak dar sachai sachiaar heh hau tin balihaarai jaau |4|21|54| O Nanak, I am a sacrifice to those who are found to be true in the True Court. ||4||21||54|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜੇ ਵੇਲਾ ਵਖਤੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੀਐ ਤਾ ਕਿਤੁ ਵੇਲਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ je velaa vakhat veechaareeai taa kit velaa bhagat hoe | Consider the time and the moment-when should we worship the Lord? - Guru Amardas Ji

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਤਿਆ ਸਚੇ ਸਚੀ ਸੋਇ ॥ anadin naame ratiaa sache sachee soe | Night and day, one who is attuned to the Name of the True Lord is true. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਿਨੇਹੀ ਹੋਇ ॥ eik til piaaraa visarai bhagat kinehee hoe | If someone forgets the Beloved Lord, even for an instant, what sort of devotion is that? - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸਾਚ ਸਿਉ ਸਾਸੁ ਨ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ man tan seetal saach siau saas na birathaa koe |1| One whose mind and body are cooled and soothed by the True Lord-no breath of his is wasted. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥ mere man har kaa naam dhiaae | O my mind, meditate on the Name of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਾਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਤਾ ਥੀਐ ਜਾ ਹਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ saachee bhagat taa theeai jaa har vasai man aae |1| rahaau | True devotional worship is performed when the Lord comes to dwell in the mind. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਹਜੇ ਖੇਤੀ ਰਾਹੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੀਜੁ ਪਾਇ ॥ sahaje khetee raaheeai sach naam beej paae | With intuitive ease, cultivate your farm, and plant the Seed of the True Name. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਖੇਤੀ ਜੰਮੀ ਅਗਲੀ ਮਨੂਆ ਰਜਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ khetee jamee agalee manooaa rajaa sehaj subhaae | The seedlings have sprouted luxuriantly, and with intuitive ease, the mind is satisfied. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਪੀਤੈ ਤਿਖ ਜਾਇ ॥ gur kaa sabad amrit hai jit peetai tikh jaae | The Word of the Guru’s Shabad is Ambrosial Nectar; drinking it in, thirst is quenched. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਚਿ ਰਤਾ ਸਚੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥ eihu man saachaa sach rataa sache rahiaa samaae |2| This true mind is attuned to Truth, and it remains permeated with the True One. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਖਣੁ ਵੇਖਣੁ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਸਬਦੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ aakhan vekhan bolanaa sabade rahiaa samaae | In speaking, in seeing and in words, remain immersed in the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਬਾਣੀ ਵਜੀ ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗੀ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਣਾਇ ॥ baanee vajee chahu jugee sacho sach sunaae | The Word of the Guru’s Bani vibrates throughout the four ages. As Truth, it teaches Truth. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਰਹਿ ਗਇਆ ਸਚੈ ਲਇਆ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥ haumai meraa reh geaa sachai leaa milaae | Egotism and possessiveness are eliminated, and the True One absorbs them into Himself. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਮਹਲੁ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੩॥ tin kau mehal hadoor hai jo sach rahe liv laae |3| Those who remain lovingly absorbed in the True One see the Mansion of His Presence close at hand. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਦਰੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ nadaree naam dhiaaeeai vin karamaa paaeaa na jaae | By His Grace, we meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. Without His Mercy, it cannot be obtained. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਲਹੈ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਇ ॥ poorai bhaag satasangat lahai satagur bhettai jis aae | Through perfect good destiny, one finds the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, and one comes to meet the True Guru. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਤਿਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ anadin naame ratiaa dukh bikhiaa vichahu jaae | Night and day, remain attuned to the Naam, and the pain of corruption shall be dispelled from within. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੜਾ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੨੨॥੫੫॥ naanak sabad milaavarraa naame naam samaae |4|22|55| O Nanak, merging with the Shabad through the Name, one is immersed in the Name. ||4||22||55|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਪਣਾ ਭਉ ਤਿਨ ਪਾਇਓਨੁ ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ aapanaa bhau tin paaeon jin gur kaa sabad beechaar | Those who contemplate the Word of the Guru’s Shabad are filled with the Fear of God. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਤਸੰਗਤੀ ਸਦਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰਿ ॥ satasangatee sadaa mil rahe sache ke gun saar | They remain forever merged with the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation; they dwell upon the Glories of the True One. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮੈਲੁ ਚੁਕਾਈਅਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ dubidhaa mail chukaaeean har raakhiaa ur dhaar | They cast off the filth of their mental duality, and they keep the Lord enshrined in their hearts. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਮਨਿ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੧॥ sachee baanee sach man sache naal piaar |1| True is their speech, and true are their minds. They are in love with the True One. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਭਰ ਨਾਲਿ ॥ man mere haumai mail bhar naal | O my mind, you are filled with the filth of egotism. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ har niramal sadaa sohanaa sabad savaaranahaar |1| rahaau | The Immaculate Lord is eternally Beautiful. We are adorned with the Word of the Shabad. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥ sachai sabad man mohiaa prabh aape le milaae | God joins to Himself those whose minds are fascinated with the True Word of His Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਤਿਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ anadin naame ratiaa jotee jot samaae | Night and day, they are attuned to the Naam, and their light is absorbed into the Light. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜੋਤੀ ਹੂ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਗੁਰ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥ jotee hoo prabh jaapadaa bin satagur boojh na paae | Through His Light, God is revealed. Without the True Guru, understanding is not obtained. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਆਇ ॥੨॥ jin kau poorab likhiaa satagur bhettiaa tin aae |2| The True Guru comes to meet those who have such pre-ordained destiny. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭ ਡੁਮਣੀ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਇ ॥ vin naavai sabh ddumanee doojai bhaae khuaae | Without the Name, all are miserable. In the love of duality, they are ruined. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਜੀਵਦੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥ tis bin gharree na jeevadee dukhee rain vihaae | Without Him, I cannot survive even for an instant, and my life-night passes in anguish. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣਾ ਅੰਧੁਲਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ bharam bhulaanaa andhulaa fir fir aavai jaae | Wandering in doubt, the spiritually blind come and go in reincarnation, over and over again. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੩॥ nadar kare prabh aapanee aape le milaae |3| When God Himself bestows His Glance of Grace, He blends us into Himself. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
