ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤੀ ਜਗੁ ਫਿਰੀ ਨਾ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਪੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥ hau hau karatee jag firee naa dhan sanpai naal | Practicing egotism, selfishness and conceit, she wanders around the world, but her wealth and property will not go with her. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਧੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਈ ਸਭ ਬਾਧੀ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ॥ andhee naam na chetee sabh baadhee jamakaal | The spiritually blind do not even think of the Naam; they are all bound and gagged by the Messenger of Death. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੩॥ satagur miliai dhan paaeaa har naamaa ridai samaal |3| Meeting the True Guru, the wealth is obtained, contemplating the Name of the Lord in the heart. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ naam rate se niramale gur kai sehaj subhaae | Those who are attuned to the Naam are immaculate and pure; through the Guru, they obtain intuitive peace and poise. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਰਸਨਾ ਰਸਨ ਰਸਾਇ ॥ man tan raataa rang siau rasanaa rasan rasaae | Their minds and bodies are dyed in the Color of the Lord’s Love, and their tongues savor His Sublime Essence. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਧੁਰਿ ਛੋਡਿਆ ਲਾਇ ॥੪॥੧੪॥੪੭॥ naanak rang na utarai jo har dhur chhoddiaa laae |4|14|47| O Nanak, that Primal Color which the Lord has applied, shall never fade away. ||4||14||47|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕੀਜੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ guramukh kripaa kare bhagat keejai bin gur bhagat na hoee | By His Grace one becomes Gurmukh, worshipping the Lord with devotion. Without the Guru there is no devotional worship. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੈ ਆਪੁ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਾ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਈ ॥ aapai aap milaae boojhai taa niramal hovai soee | Those whom He unites with Himself, understand and become pure. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ har jeeo saachaa saachee baanee sabad milaavaa hoee |1| The Dear Lord is True, and True is the Word of His Bani. Through the Shabad, we merge with Him. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਭਗਤਿਹੀਣੁ ਕਾਹੇ ਜਗਿ ਆਇਆ ॥ bhaaee re bhagatiheen kaahe jag aaeaa | O Siblings of Destiny: those who lack devotion-why have they even bothered to come into the world? - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ਨ ਕੀਨੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ poore gur kee sev na keenee birathaa janam gavaaeaa |1| rahaau | They do not serve the Perfect Guru; they waste away their lives in vain. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ aape jagajeevan sukhadaataa aape bakhas milaae | The Lord Himself, the Life of the World, is the Giver of Peace. He Himself forgives, and unites with Himself. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਏ ਕਿਆ ਵੇਚਾਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥ jeea jant e kiaa vechaare kiaa ko aakh sunaae | So what about all these poor beings and creatures? What can anyone say? - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਵਡਾਈ ਆਪੇ ਸੇਵ ਕਰਾਏ ॥੨॥ guramukh aape dee vaddaaee aape sev karaae |2| He Himself blesses the Gurmukh with glory. He Himself enjoins us to His Service. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੇਖਿ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਲੋਭਾਣਾ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ dekh kuttanb mohi lobhaanaa chaladiaa naal na jaaee | Gazing upon their families, people are lured and trapped by emotional attachment, but none will go along with them in the end. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਿਸ ਦੀ ਕੀਮ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥ satagur sev gun nidhaan paaeaa tis dee keem na paaee | Serving the True Guru, one finds the Lord, the Treasure of Excellence. His Value cannot be estimated. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਖਾ ਮੀਤੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੩॥ har prabh sakhaa meet prabh meraa ante hoe sakhaaee |3| The Lord God is my Friend and Companion. God shall be my Helper and Support in the end. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪਣੈ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਾਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ aapanai man chit kahai kahaae bin gur aap na jaaee | Within your conscious mind, you may say anything, but without the Guru, selfishness is not removed. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਦਾਤਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਹੈ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥ har jeeo daataa bhagat vachhal hai kar kirapaa man vasaaee | The Dear Lord is the Giver, the Lover of His devotees. By His Grace, He comes to dwell in the mind. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋਭਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਦੇਇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੪॥੧੫॥੪੮॥ naanak sobhaa surat dee prabh aape guramukh de vaddiaaee |4|15|48| O Nanak, by His Grace, He bestows enlightened awareness; God Himself blesses the Gurmukh with glorious greatness. ||4||15||48|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਧਨੁ ਜਨਨੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਾਇਆ ਧੰਨੁ ਪਿਤਾ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ॥ dhan jananee jin jaaeaa dhan pitaa paradhaan | Blessed is the mother who gave birth; blessed and respected is the father of one who serves the True Guru and finds peace. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਗਇਆ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥ satagur sev sukh paaeaa vichahu geaa gumaan | His arrogant pride is banished from within. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦਰਿ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਖੜੇ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ dar sevan sant jan kharre paaein gunee nidhaan |1| Standing at the Lord’s Door, the humble Saints serve Him; they find the Treasure of Excellence. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਗੁਰ ਮੁਖਿ ਧਿਆਇ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਇ ॥ mere man gur mukh dhiaae har soe | O my mind, become Gurmukh, and meditate on the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ gur kaa sabad man vasai man tan niramal hoe |1| rahaau | The Word of the Guru’s Shabad abides within the mind, and the body and mind become pure. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ਆਪੇ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਇ ॥ kar kirapaa ghar aaeaa aape miliaa aae | By His Grace, He has come into my home; He Himself has come to meet me. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਰੰਗੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ gurasabadee saalaaheeai range sehaj subhaae | Singing His Praises through the Shabads of the Guru, we are dyed in His Color with intuitive ease. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੈ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥ sachai sach samaaeaa mil rahai na vichhurr jaae |2| Becoming truthful, we merge with the True One; remaining blended with Him, we shall never be separated again. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੁ ਕਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਇ ॥ jo kichh karanaa su kar rahiaa avar na karanaa jaae | Whatever is to be done, the Lord is doing. No one else can do anything. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਚਿਰੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨੇ ਮੇਲਿਅਨੁ ਸਤਗੁਰ ਪੰਨੈ ਪਾਇ ॥ chiree vichhune melian satagur panai paae | Those separated from Him for so long are reunited with Him once again by the True Guru, who takes them into His Own Account. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਇਸੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥ aape kaar karaaeisee avar na karanaa jaae |3| He Himself assigns all to their tasks; nothing else can be done. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਰਤਾ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਹਉਮੈ ਤਜਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥ man tan rataa rang siau haumai taj vikaar | One whose mind and body are imbued with the Lord’s Love gives up egotism and corruption. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਵਿ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ॥ ahinis hiradai rav rahai nirbhau naam nirankaar | Day and night, the Name of the One Lord, the Fearless and Formless One, dwells within the heart. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅਪਾਰ ॥੪॥੧੬॥੪੯॥ naanak aap milaaeian poorai sabad apaar |4|16|49| O Nanak, He blends us with Himself, through the Perfect, Infinite Word of His Shabad. ||4||16||49|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਕਥਨੀ ਬਦਨੀ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ kathanee badanee na paaeeai haumai vichahu jaae | He is not obtained by mouthing mere words, but by rooting out ego from within. - Guru Amardas Ji
