ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਘਰੁ ੩ ॥ sireeraag mahalaa 1 ghar 3 | Siree Raag, First Mehl, Third House: - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅਮਲੁ ਕਰਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਬੀਜੁ ਸਬਦੋ ਕਰਿ ਸਚ ਕੀ ਆਬ ਨਿਤ ਦੇਹਿ ਪਾਣੀ ॥ amal kar dharatee beej sabado kar sach kee aab nit dehi paanee | Make good deeds the soil, and let the Word of the Shabad be the seed; irrigate it continually with the water of Truth. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹੋਇ ਕਿਰਸਾਣੁ ਈਮਾਨੁ ਜੰਮਾਇ ਲੈ ਭਿਸਤੁ ਦੋਜਕੁ ਮੂੜੇ ਏਵ ਜਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ hoe kirasaan eemaan jamaae lai bhisat dojak moorre ev jaanee |1| Become such a farmer, and faith will sprout. This brings knowledge of heaven and hell, you fool! ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਤੁ ਜਾਣ ਸਹਿ ਗਲੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ mat jaan seh galee paaeaa | Do not think that your Husband Lord can be obtained by mere words. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਾਲ ਕੈ ਮਾਣੈ ਰੂਪ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਇਤੁ ਬਿਧੀ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ maal kai maanai roop kee sobhaa it bidhee janam gavaaeaa |1| rahaau | You are wasting this life in the pride of wealth and the splendor of beauty. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਐਬ ਤਨਿ ਚਿਕੜੋ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮੀਡਕੋ ਕਮਲ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨਹੀ ਮੂਲਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ aib tan chikarro ihu man meeddako kamal kee saar nahee mool paaee | The defect of the body which leads to sin is the mud puddle, and this mind is the frog, which does not appreciate the lotus flower at all. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਭਉਰੁ ਉਸਤਾਦੁ ਨਿਤ ਭਾਖਿਆ ਬੋਲੇ ਕਿਉ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਾ ਨਹ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੨॥ bhaur usataad nit bhaakhiaa bole kiau boojhai jaa neh bujhaaee |2| The bumble bee is the teacher who continually teaches the lesson. But how can one understand, unless one is made to understand? ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਖਣੁ ਸੁਨਣਾ ਪਉਣ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਤਾ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ aakhan sunanaa paun kee baanee ihu man rataa maaeaa | This speaking and listening is like the song of the wind, for those whose minds are colored by the love of Maya. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਖਸਮ ਕੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਦਿਲਹਿ ਪਸਿੰਦੇ ਜਿਨੀ ਕਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੩॥ khasam kee nadar dileh pasinde jinee kar ek dhiaaeaa |3| The Grace of the Master is bestowed upon those who meditate on Him alone. They are pleasing to His Heart. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤੀਹ ਕਰਿ ਰਖੇ ਪੰਜ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਥੀ ਨਾਉ ਸੈਤਾਨੁ ਮਤੁ ਕਟਿ ਜਾਈ ॥ teeh kar rakhe panj kar saathee naau saitaan mat katt jaaee | You may observe the thirty fasts, and say the five prayers each day, but ‘Satan’ can undo them. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਖੈ ਰਾਹਿ ਪੈ ਚਲਣਾ ਮਾਲੁ ਧਨੁ ਕਿਤ ਕੂ ਸੰਜਿਆਹੀ ॥੪॥੨੭॥ naanak aakhai raeh pai chalanaa maal dhan kit koo sanjiaahee |4|27| Says Nanak, you will have to walk on the Path of Death, so why do you bother to collect wealth and property? ||4||27|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਸੋਈ ਮਉਲਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗੁ ਮਉਲਿਆ ਹਰਿਆ ਕੀਆ ਸੰਸਾਰੋ ॥ soee maulaa jin jag mauliaa hariaa keea sansaaro | He is the Master who has made the world bloom; He makes the Universe blossom forth, fresh and green. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਬ ਖਾਕੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਬੰਧਿ ਰਹਾਈ ਧੰਨੁ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੋ ॥੧॥ aab khaak jin bandh rahaaee dhan sirajanahaaro |1| He holds the water and the land in bondage. Hail to the Creator Lord! ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਰਣਾ ਮੁਲਾ ਮਰਣਾ ॥ maranaa mulaa maranaa | Death, O Mullah-death will come, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਭੀ ਕਰਤਾਰਹੁ ਡਰਣਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ bhee karataarahu ddaranaa |1| rahaau | so live in the Fear of God the Creator. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤਾ ਤੂ ਮੁਲਾ ਤਾ ਤੂ ਕਾਜੀ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਖੁਦਾਈ ॥ taa too mulaa taa too kaajee jaaneh naam khudaaee | You are a Mullah, and you are a Qazi, only when you know the Naam, the Name of God. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜੇ ਬਹੁਤੇਰਾ ਪੜਿਆ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਕੋ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਭਰੀਐ ਪਾਈ ॥੨॥ je bahuteraa parriaa hoveh ko rahai na bhareeai paaee |2| You may be very educated, but no one can remain when the measure of life is full. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸੋਈ ਕਾਜੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਆਪੁ ਤਜਿਆ ਇਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਕੀਆ ਆਧਾਰੋ ॥ soee kaajee jin aap tajiaa ik naam keea aadhaaro | He alone is a Qazi, who renounces selfishness and conceit, and makes the One Name his Support. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹੈ ਭੀ ਹੋਸੀ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਜਾਸੀ ਸਚਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੋ ॥੩॥ hai bhee hosee jaae na jaasee sachaa sirajanahaaro |3| The True Creator Lord is, and shall always be. He was not born; He shall not die. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪੰਜ ਵਖਤ ਨਿਵਾਜ ਗੁਜਾਰਹਿ ਪੜਹਿ ਕਤੇਬ ਕੁਰਾਣਾ ॥ panj vakhat nivaaj gujaareh parreh kateb kuraanaa | You may chant your prayers five times each day; you may read the Bible and the Koran. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਖੈ ਗੋਰ ਸਦੇਈ ਰਹਿਓ ਪੀਣਾ ਖਾਣਾ ॥੪॥੨੮॥ naanak aakhai gor sadeee rahio peenaa khaanaa |4|28| Says Nanak, the grave is calling you, and now your food and drink are finished. ||4||28|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਏਕੁ ਸੁਆਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਸੁਆਨੀ ਨਾਲਿ ॥ ek suaan due suaanee naal | The dogs of greed are with me. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਭਲਕੇ ਭਉਕਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਬਇਆਲਿ ॥ bhalake bhaukeh sadaa beaal | In the early morning, they continually bark at the wind. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕੂੜੁ ਛੁਰਾ ਮੁਠਾ ਮੁਰਦਾਰੁ ॥ koorr chhuraa mutthaa muradaar | Falsehood is my dagger; through deception, I eat the carcasses of the dead. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਧਾਣਕ ਰੂਪਿ ਰਹਾ ਕਰਤਾਰ ॥੧॥ dhaanak roop rahaa karataar |1| I live as a wild hunter, O Creator! ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮੈ ਪਤਿ ਕੀ ਪੰਦਿ ਨ ਕਰਣੀ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ॥ mai pat kee pand na karanee kee kaar | I have not followed good advice, nor have I done good deeds. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਉ ਬਿਗੜੈ ਰੂਪਿ ਰਹਾ ਬਿਕਰਾਲ ॥ hau bigarrai roop rahaa bikaraal | I am deformed and horribly disfigured. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤੇਰਾ ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥ teraa ek naam taare sansaar | Your Name alone, Lord, saves the world. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮੈ ਏਹਾ ਆਸ ਏਹੋ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ mai ehaa aas eho aadhaar |1| rahaau | This is my hope; this is my support. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮੁਖਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਆਖਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥ mukh nindaa aakhaa din raat | With my mouth I speak slander, day and night. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪਰ ਘਰੁ ਜੋਹੀ ਨੀਚ ਸਨਾਤਿ ॥ par ghar johee neech sanaat | I spy on the houses of others-I am such a wretched low-life! - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਤਨਿ ਵਸਹਿ ਚੰਡਾਲ ॥ kaam krodh tan vaseh chanddaal | Unfulfilled sexual desire and unresolved anger dwell in my body, like the outcasts who cremate the dead. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਧਾਣਕ ਰੂਪਿ ਰਹਾ ਕਰਤਾਰ ॥੨॥ dhaanak roop rahaa karataar |2| I live as a wild hunter, O Creator! ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਫਾਹੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਮਲੂਕੀ ਵੇਸੁ ॥ faahee surat malookee ves | I make plans to trap others, although I appear gentle. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਉ ਠਗਵਾੜਾ ਠਗੀ ਦੇਸੁ ॥ hau tthagavaarraa tthagee des | I am a robber-I rob the world. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਖਰਾ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਭਾਰੁ ॥ kharaa siaanaa bahutaa bhaar | I am very clever-I carry loads of sin. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਧਾਣਕ ਰੂਪਿ ਰਹਾ ਕਰਤਾਰ ॥੩॥ dhaanak roop rahaa karataar |3| I live as a wild hunter, O Creator! ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮੈ ਕੀਤਾ ਨ ਜਾਤਾ ਹਰਾਮਖੋਰੁ ॥ mai keetaa na jaataa haraamakhor | I have not appreciated what You have done for me, Lord; I take from others and exploit them. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਉ ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਦੇਸਾ ਦੁਸਟੁ ਚੋਰੁ ॥ hau kiaa muhu desaa dusatt chor | What face shall I show You, Lord? I am a sneak and a thief. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨੀਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ naanak neech kahai beechaar | Nanak describes the state of the lowly. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਏਕਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੇਤੇ ਹੈ ਜੀਅ ॥ ekaa surat jete hai jeea | There is one awareness among all created beings. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸੁਰਤਿ ਵਿਹੂਣਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕੀਅ ॥ surat vihoonaa koe na keea | None have been created without this awareness. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
